    Clever solution for repairing common vinyl siding corner damage. I've been masking the damage with color matched tape to avoid pulling the siding off to get to the nails. Now I'll be hitting a big box store tomorrow for some new pieces to make my shed look new again. Thanks for clearly demonstrating this time saving technique!

    I did vinyl siding professionally for years and taught myself this method a long time ago. One method I leaned on over and over as I had a thing about not seeing fasteners, was I relied on caulking a lot instead of nails or rivets. Geocel was my caulk of choice and I would put a good gob on both sides at the top and support the corner till the caulk set up. That allowed the corner to expand down and not wrinkle when it expanded. Great video!

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So damn! I guess I did not invent this method! LOL I often wondered if others did this same thing.
      Yes I should have mentioned the caulking at the top but forgot because in this case it was not needed as the corner fit to the concrete. Thanks for the feed back!

    This was a great video, but.........i really wanted to comment on a previous video you did on how to do a drop ceiling. I got put into the position of having to do two bedroom ceilings having never done a drop ceiling before. Not one video that I found was helpful at all, except yours, which was detailed and completely understandable. I did two " perfect" ceilings, and the tiles with a recessed edge, like you recommended were the difference maker, they were so beautiful. You have an incredible gift as a teacher. A simple thankyou is not enough.

  • @martinbrock4394
    @martinbrock4394 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you Shannon. I had two damaged corner pieces that I put off replacing for 10 years, as it was too expensive. Your insightful video led me to believe I could do it myself, and your calm mannerism was nice to learn from. Even though the corner pieces available were 1/4 inch shorter on each side, cutting off the old and using the tool you suggested made the new pieces fit nicely. One helpful suggestion would be to use leather gloves when cutting with the utility knife. Those final shards cut a few knuckles doing the first piece, and the leather gloves made cutting the second piece much safer.
    Thanks again!

    Excellent video. I’ve been around some construction/repair all my life and that’s a new trick. I can fix anything but because I don’t do it for a living in over 30 years, I don’t think of creative things like this. If several were damaged, you could also get some pvc coil and make a FALSE CORNER on a metal brake with return bends and pop it right over the whole corner but unless you did more than one, it would not match. I love how creative people are, never too old to learn, thanks

    Great idea and video! 2 tips from mistakes I made: (1) I cut the new piece on the garage floor. It was really hard to cut and as I did it, I moved it back and forth and shifted it as I went. In the end, I discovered a scrape mark on the nice brand new installed plastic. I should have done it on the grass or thrown a few towels down or something. (2) Cutting it was extremely hard. But if I pulled the 2 sides apart on the already-cut section, the knife cut way more easily (spreading the material apart right where the knife was trying to cut). Also, exposing the knife blade more to 2 sections and using a bit more of a sawing action rather than just pushing the blade straight really helped.

    I just finished doing this. We struggled trying to make the external piece snapped inside the sides. We had to cut more of the sides until it eventually fit. It looks a little stretched but other than that it was a success. Coming from a non handy guy, thank you for making this video sir!
