    Offside Rule Explained in simple:
    1. Have to be behind/level with 2nd last defender (including keeper) at the moment the ball leaves your teammates foot.
    2. In a 2v1 break away, there is no last defender, so your teammate can’t be infront of the ball if you want to pass to them.
    3. You can be offside as long as you don’t interfere with play

    • @boss180888
      @boss180888 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      4. on the first half of the pitch there is no offside

    • @voxstelarum
      @voxstelarum 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      5. Offside only counts when a pass is made to the player that is in an offside position.
      A player can be in an offside position, but the ref will call it only at the moment the pass is made to the player, not when you receive the ball.

      @@voxstelarum no, the pass can be made to another player, but if the offside player interfere with the play in any way (running to the ball or blocking the defender, for exemple) the offside is called.

    The offside rules are simple but is very difficult for the referee do the callings because sometimes the plays are to fast, so there are to assistant referees at each. side of the field. Each one run half the side of the field in opposite side of the field. The linesman (that is the name of this side referees) has always to be positioned paralell to the position of the last player of the defending team. If you pay attention to the game , you will see that he is always following the moves in the field of the last man defending. I hope I have been clear and that have helped you to understand the game a little more. Greetings from Argentina

      Hey, I guess English is not your first language as you say you're from Argentina, but I want to try and help you and teach you a little, if you don't mind. No hate intended. So, when you said "to" the first time, it should've been "too", we use it in situations like "too big", "too fast", "too small" and "too cool". The second time was meant to be "two", when you refer to the number it's alway "two". We use "to" when we write something like "I went to the shops" or "Does he want to come to the park?". Most languages are very confusing to others but hope this helps :)

    In simplest possible terms:
    When someone is passing the ball to you, you must not be the closest person to the goalkeeper. There must be another defender in between you and the goalkeeper, or right in line with you.

    BTW about the number of referees
    There is one on the pitch that
    Then 2 referees called linesman respectively
    They are the ones with the flag that actually following the defender to see if the play is offside or not and also can signal the main referee about fouls
    There is a 4th referee that stay in the coaches area to see they are staying in their place (there is a box with lines coach can't leave ) and also doing the substitutions and showing the sign added time is going to be after the main referee tell him how much he's gonna add
    And now there is VAR
    Its 3 referees that seat in a room with few screens and watching the game and replay and signal the referee in his earphone if he made a wrong call
    Sometimes the referee just listening to them without a question and sometimes in very close calls the main referee goes to the monitor and check the play just like a review in the NBA

  • @jacksmith4460
    @jacksmith4460 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    It probably helps to know why, then it makes so much more sense.
    It is a rule to stop the striker or attackers just waiting up by the goal the whole game as the ball could just be punted up to them constantly(known as "goal Hanging) and it would be really easy to score, this is also why you CANNOT be offside in your own half because you still have to travel half the pitch to score (unless you are Xabi Alonso lool)
    Defensive line is key and WHEN the ball is played,
    So the moment when your team mate kicks the ball (literally the split second) if you are in front of the defence (the defence is closer to THEIR goal than the attacker) or level you are onside , but if you are behind (closer to THEIR goal than the defenders) WHEN the pass is kicked you are offside.
    Important Note: If you are running from in front of the defence(Defence closer to THEIR goal than attackers are) when the ball is passed(kicked) by your team mat,e but you run beyond the defence while the ball is travelling to you and you receive(control) the ball closer to the goal than the defenders you are ONSIDE. Its about your starting position relative to the moment the ball is kicked.
    And yes you can be offside and as long as you do not interfere with play (touch the ball/block an opponent/obscure the Goalkeepers view) you are not offside, but you also are effectively not "in play" so you have to get behind the ball again before you can become "active" and are "in play".
    Its actually very very simple, but its really hard to explain precisely in words

    as a fan who watch football, i usually don't notice when it's an offside or not, because the timing to check if it is happens in a second, so i often miss it, and even if some cases are more visible than others and you get the hang of it with time, i don't think much people who atch the sport always have in mind to check it from the start, only players, refs and maybe the coach do it ; it's also really specific sometimes and still can confuse some people (especially if it's a matter of inches) ; but it's still a super important rule to know even if you just watch
    - 5:10 i think you now can be offside if it's a throw-in because Ronaldinho used it to his advantage x)
    - 8:50 back in the 2000's there were only three refs on the pitch, some years later, 2 refs were added to stay just next to a goal to have less goal-line clearance mistakes and etc, but they were quickly removed, to be VAR referees, so now there's 3 ref on the pitch, 1 IN the pitch, 2 on the side lines, and there's also at least 2 refs in charge of the VAR (the camera/replay/...)
    - quick note: you can't be offside from an opponent's pass, but you can be offside even if the ball has been diverted by an opponent, unless it's from a deliberate action (like trying to clear the ball out, trying deliberately to block/stop the ball,...) but it failed and ended up deviating
    - 10:50 in that case, if the second player (on the right) was offside but the ball was passed to his teammate, it doesn't matter if he was in front of the teammate or not because the ball is not passed to him, only the last pass counts as you can be offside if you don't receive the ball

    lol i swear ive watched football my whole life and the way these videos explain it are so confusing lol. Literally all you need to know 99% of the time is that you cant be infront of the defenders when the ball is passed to you. The 2nd defender stuff really doesnt matter that much. If you run past the defenders with the ball youre not off side its all about the 'pass' You guys got it in the end anyway.

  • @Carmichael_
    @Carmichael_ 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    remember its also about the pass, as soon as the pass is made to the attacker the attacker must be in line with the defence, thats why the attacker makes a run hoping the passer will see him & play it before he runs behind the defence.
    If the passer waits too long the runner will run offside, if the attacker runs too earlier behind the defence & the pass is made late he will be offside.
    Its all about being on the same timing, the passer seeing the run & the runner making the run at the same time.

You'll understand now more about the postion of the players, be it an attacker or a defender, and why the defenders are very careful to build a litteral... well defensive line.

The one who runs around the pitch (main referee) The two running around the sides of the pitch (they check offsides and throw-ins) is the fourth official who is responsible for extra time and substitutions. And there are VAR referee. Video analysis Recording. We often enjoy a goal, and after a while it turns out that the VAR referees report that it was offside and no goal.

    Basically take a snapshot of the moment the final pass is played and ask: Are there at least 2 players between the final pass receiver and the opposition goal (including the goalie as 1). Notice when these highlights freeze, at the moment of the pass. That is the basics.
    The thing that changes is the definition of "between" ie. can a foot be in front of the 2nd last defender? Can an arm be in front? and so on. Currently no part of the body that you can score a goal with can be in front of the second last defender (remembering that the last defender is the goalie)

    08:26 No this is not right. the player being PASSED TO is the player that can or cannot be offside, the person passing the ball is onside, the person they are passing TO is the one that has to be onside WHEN the pass is kicked..BUT that player can run passed the defence and his first touch of the ball can be in a position closer to the goal than the defenders, AS LONG as that player has basically ran into that position whilst the ball was travelling from the pass, if they were stood waiting in that same position WHEN The pass is kicked they would be offside, but as they were running the ball was passed and whilst it was travelling they ran THROUGH the defensive line to receive the pass, they are ONSIDE
    Each pass takes between 2 and 5 seconds to travel in the air/along the ground, that can be enough time to move beyond the defenders.
    Also Defenders play "offside trap" so they get in a line and wait for the attacker to go to pass, and just before he kicks the ball they step forward , any attackers level with them are suddenly offside

    Guys the offside rule is simple. Basically it says that at the moment that one of your team mates pass the ball to you.( Exactly at the moment that he kicks the ball or hit it with the head towards your position( there have to be two players from the other team closer to their goal. If when the ball is passed to you , you are behind the position of the ball you are not offside. There is no offside if the ball is passed to you for a player from the other team. There is not offside in throw ins.

  • @michaelgrabner8977
    @michaelgrabner8977 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Simplified :
    Basically the "ball receiving offence player" is not allowed to be positioned closer to the goal than the opponent´s last defensive "field player" - !!!!!"in that very moment"!!!! - when the ball got played from his teammate (= the very moment when the ball leaves his foot) towards the "ball receiving offensive player" ....to account for the offside/onside decisions are all bodyparts which are allowed to score a goal `= basically the whole body unless the arms and hands....
    So when for instance just the tip of the toe or just the tip of the nose of the ball receiving offence player is closer to the goal than any bodypart of the last opponent´s field player in that very moment the ball got played towards the offence player = Offside..
    And the guy forgot to mention the 4th rule which can´t be Offside = when the ball comes directly from the opponent´s team to the attacker upfront = for instance caused by a failed played pass or a clearly deflected ball which means the ball´s direction changed drastically after the deflecting touch.
    Important: and just to be clear: ...for the decision it is the moment where the ball got played towards the attacker = that is the moment which counts and it is not the moment when the attacker is actually receiving the ball. It is totally legit to receive the ball positioned way closer to goal than the last field defender as long as the attacker was Onside in that very moment when that ball left the teammate´s foot heading to the attacker upfront

    There is a tweak made in this rule, I believe. Now only your feets need to be onside. He said that only hands can be offside, but this has changed, I believe. They have tweaked this little by little. There was a time, that when the pass was made, and if there was one teammade in offside position, it would be ruled offisde, even if he does not touch the ball, because obviously he does affect the defenders. Many people did not like that change.

    Only the recieving player can be offside... The player that passes the ball is never offside❤❤❤
    In an actually game you will see offside for sure cause the defensive team want the attacking side to be offside, if that makes sense..😅

    No rules in Association Football they are LAWS...seventeen of them! Offside is law 11...your're welcome 👍🇬🇧 BTW you can't be offside from either a throw in, goal kick or a corner kick.

    You need some extra guidance, but you are almost there¡ But you are there: ifyou keep in mind, that it is, in fact, introduced to make players not cherry picking like you said.

    For a long time I though goalkeeper was not included in the offside rule. I though it was the last defender. Then I saw a strange goal that was declined. Even the commentators did not know it. So yeah, it's the second defender goalkeeper included.

    If you go into a pub, on match day and you don’t know the offside rule! Well I dunno. With those accents I’d just call it football and laugh. Most fans are cool but you gotta know the offside rule.

    Y’all should watch a video on fouls and yellow/red cards cos a couple of videos ago you didn’t know that players could get sent off the pitch

  • @Bonny2478

    It's very simple actually you just need to be behind or on the same line with the defender when the pass comes
    And a lot of times there are very close calls and today they use the VAR system it's like a review in the NBA just to make sure
    I just think you could get a better video to understand it better I'll try to find for you guys
    Do you have some other social network that I can DM you ?
    Much love we appreciate yall willing to learn because then when you gonna make a reaction you gonna know it all

      Yeh the clips in the video were good, but they were not thoroughly explained enough , like the break away goal showed an in their own half pass to a player that was in his own half, and that specific should have been explained then and there to stop confusing

    Also, another offside rule missing there, is that the limit of the offside rule is the middle line. If the last defender (when his entire team is in the front attaquing position)...Crosses the middle line, he's not the offside limit anymore. So opposit players can be behind him, and be passed the ball in counter attacks, and not be signaled offside! And could score on one one one with the goalie (best example of thag rule is the killing cluch goal of Chelsea against Barcelona in UCL semi final in 2012. Puyol was the last defender, and was way too up from his defensive zone, up the central line...Whitch cancels the offside rule...So striker Fernando Torres scored a goal being passed the ball way in front behind the last defender!)
    -sorry if my english is average! I hope it's been clear enough!

  • @kimbirch1202

    Think of the goalie as just another defender.
    There must be at least two defenders between the player receiving the ball , and the goal line ,when the ball is Passed to him.
    NOT when the player receives the ball.
    A player cannot be offside in his own half, or from a throw in.
    An attacker can also be offside of he is blocking the goalies vision, or blocking a defender, but does not receive the ball.
    This is up to the refs interpretation, and can be contentious .

    This was a very complicated video to explain offside.
    It's better to show examples per rule.
    It's my favorite rule, it complicates the game,its pure. A penalty is for illegal goal preventing actions. But now, anyone falling down gets a penalty, even if their shot allready past the backline. Also, if you don't fall, you won't get a free kick. So everyone falls.
    A other dislike is that ref's don't give cards in the beginning of a game, even with hard tackles. They even allow 4,5 fouls before giving a card. It shouldn't matter when it happens. Offensive free kicks have to be on the exact spot, defending free kicks are allowed 10 meters further. Offside is the one of the few honoust rules.

    In footbal are " offside tricks by defending team" 90% offsides are made by them . Think about it .. when The defending team sees the ball and wheree are the strikers , or the atacking team , they are rushing in fron of them , and you can't pass the ball for your Strikers... You need to play more with the ball and wait for a opening . It's kinda tricky .. over 90% of offsides are made by Defending team. 😂😂
