    3 teams go down, 3 come up at the end of every season 👍
    The teams that finish top 4, are qualified to go and play Champions League. Where they face the top 4 teams from all the other leagues in Europe. Hope that clears some things up!

    To put the Leicester thing into perspective, earlier that year it was announced that Peter Capaldi was leaving Doctor Who. The odds on The Queen of England taking the role were 4000/1. There was statistically more chance of The Queen playing The Doctor than there were of Leicester winning the league.
    It was truly the greatest underdog story in history and they haven't stopped, they've ran with it. Did well in next season's CL, consistently finished in the top 6 beat some poor, unsuspecting nobody's 9-0 on their own ground (Saints fan here) and then last season won the FA Cup. Amazing story...Apart from that 9-0...We don't need to look into that too much...

    To answer your question:
    Theoretically, a team could win the Champions League and be relegated from the Premier League in the same season (as you rightly said these are separate tournaments), however it would never happen. You have to be unbelievably consistently good to win the Champions League (essentially be the best club team in the world), so if you're beating Barcelona and Real Madrid to win the Champions League, you're not going to lose to the likes of Norwich and Burnley in the Premier League.

    English Premier league the most watched sports league in the world. Regular season games (not a final of anything) between Liverpool and Man Utd can get a billion global viewers. To put that in perspective the biggest game in American sport, the super bowl, has a record of only 120m global viewers

      I mean, the point is fair (football is a more watched sport than the NFL) but the numbers here are pure nonsense. Regular season games do not get anywhere near to a billion viewers. The champions league final (the biggest game of the year besides world cups) gets about 350 million viewers. Which again, is more than the Superbowl, but in no universe does a regular season game get more viewers that the Superbowl, besides maybe some of the bigger Classicos down the years, but that is a big maybe.

    In fact all the top European football leagues work the same way:
    the teams at the bottom of the ranking are relegated,
    the first wins the championship
    the teams at the top of the ranking qualify for European competitions (Champions league, europa league).
    For the European competitions, there is the UEFA index which classifies all the European leagues according to the number of European titles (all times) won by the clubs of each league and thus determines the number of places reserved for these leagues.
    For example in England the first four qualify for the Champions League while in France it is the first three.

    Kobe Bryant as a kid lived for some time in Italy where he learned to play soccer. He became a fan of the sport. As everyone know Kobe wore 24 & 8 with the Lakers. But if you ever saw him play for the men’s national basketball team in the olympics, Kobe always wore #10. In soccer #10 is that guy on the field, if you west #10 you basically telling everybody you ready to carry the team on his shoulders. Kobe’s favorite soccer player is Ronaldinho and I’m sure somewhere on the internet there is a Kobe Bryan doing a little soccer trick with a basketball at one of his trainings.

    The question about being relegated plus being the in Champions League, you still get relegated. Your win or position in the Champions League doesn't affect your domestic national league standing (Since the Champions League involves many national leagues).
    Also, around pronouncing names - to put into perspective, I've lived in a town called Exeter that had actual Roman ruins just around town. Leicester and it's name (named after the city) are so old that it's been round for probably 2-3000 years. It's adapted to modern English to Leicester after thousands of years of slight variation, so the written word is not always the same as the pronounced. You see it slightly happen in America too.

    The reason why even though the league has 20 teams the same 6 usually stay on top is that there are no such thing like a draft in football. Each team has to buy or form their players in their academy, so obviously if ur richer you are pretty sure of getting the best player and win which makes you earn a lot of money which allows you to buy good players again and again. But some teams like Ajax are well known for their academy and their development of players which allows them some years to go really far in the champions league for example without spending to much money(it’s the case this year).

  • @tlwa
    @tlwa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Relegation is the worst thing that can happen to a football team. Main reason is money and it snowball into many issues.
    1. People only wants to watch the top league. Each team gets 42 million USD each season off TV revenue.
    2. The league below Premier League, teams only get 12 million USD. Reason no body watches it.
    3. Reduce sponsorship for relegated teams. Sponsors pay top money for their brand to be featured on teams' jersey. If you are relegated, ain't nobody gonna pay good money for their brands to be featured on a shitass league with no viewership.
    4. With the reduce of TV revenue and sponsorships. Relegated teams have to sell players, reducing operating cost to keep the club running.
    5. Selling players = selling your best players. You best player only wants to play in the top league. Top team will be raiding your squad for good players at bargain price.
    6. After selling half of the team. You need to rebuild but remember, you ain't got money and you ain't in the top league. The players relegated team can attract are of mediocre quality. Decent enough for lower league but not good enough to be in the top league.
    7. From point 1 to 6 above is the BEST scenario for a relegated team. The worst scenario are teams that took loans to buy players, expending stadium etc while they are in the top league. Many relegated teams with debt can't even put up a decent team to compete in the lower league.
    8. Those teams that cannot remain the the 2nd tier get relegated into the 3rd tier league. There are 11 tiers of English football league.
    9. Many relegated team never make it back to the Premier League. There are teams with hundred of years of history that needs to be liquidated because they can no longer generate enough income to pay off their debts and they cease to exist.

    Cup are like the playoffs, You have Euro cup (Champions league, Europa league) and domestic or national cups, in England you have the FA Cup and League Cup and these are knock out rounds like playoffs.
    It's possible to win one of these AND get relegated in the same season, although I dont think this has happened in England, maybe somewhere else? Spain Italy ? but I don't actually know (each country has National Leagues AND cup competitions)
    Its also possible for a team in "The Championship" to win the Cups (league below the Prem, so the 2nd division, the League you play in if you get relegated from the Prem) .
    Its even possible to win the Champions league and finish outside the qualification places for the following year
    The cup finals, both National and European are at the end of the season, but the knock out rounds run through the main season

  • @Jardermorder
    @Jardermorder 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The thing is, to qualify for the Champions League you have to have finished in the top 4 spots of your league the year prior. That means that you have to be extremely good to beat everybody and win the Champions League against clubs like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich but lose consistently throughout 38 games against Burnley, Norwich or Watford, which is basically impossible.
    Also, because Champions League games and Premier League games are played out throughout the whole of the season, there can't be the narrative of "losing someone for the playoffs". If a key player is injured, it is for both PL and CL games

    For the question "If you get relegated but somehow win the Champions League at the same point" - It is HIGHLY unlikely that this will happen - but: That Team would still get relegated to the 2nd Division and they would qualify to play in the Champions League in the following Season as the Title Holder. It would just suck for the Team that is finishing 4th in the Premier League, that spot would normally qualify you for the CL - but since there can only be 4 Teams from England in that Tournament, only the first three out of the 1st League + the Winner of the CL, in our case the relegated Team, will play in the CL the next season.

    • @martinottesen1053
      @martinottesen1053 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the 4th placed PL team would still qualify for the CL, as the maximum number of teams from a single federation (nation) is 5, not 4. If, lets say, the 6th and 7th placed teams in the PL won the CL and the EL respectively, THEN the 4th placed team would lose out. And to show this, i'll show to last season's La Liga, where 7th placed Villareal won the Europa League, all top four La Liga sides (Atletico, Real, Barca and Sevilla) as well as Villareal (EL title holders), qualified to the Champions League. This happened. But if, for some weird reason, 6th placed Real Betis managed to win the CL in the same season, then only top 3 (Atl, RM and Bar), as well as title holders Real Betis and Villareal, would qualify, at the expence of 4th placed Sevilla.

    I like how he said the Europa League isn’t important, but also to add to that. If you win the Europa League you’ll also qualify for the champions league the next season as well.
    The top four teams from leagues in Germany (Bundesliga), Spain (La Liga), England (Premier league), Italy (Serie A), Ukraine, Russia, The Netherlands, & Belgium. Compete in the champions league. Some other countries in Europe have different qualifications where they can’t qualify for the champions league, which is why there’s the Europa League like in Scotland if you win the league you’ll qualify for the Europa League. And in the other leagues that I named if you finish 5th or 6th depending on the leagues qualification you’ll be in the Europa League. The Europa League is also the same tournament as the champions league and it goes the same way. Except the winner of the Europa League will automatically qualify for the champions league. No matter what place that specific team finishes in the league even if they get relegated (which is highly unlikely). So for the person that was explaining the video to say that is very disrespectful to other countries that physically don’t have a chance to qualify for the champions league because that’s the only outlet the other teams have to qualify in the tournament (The Champions League).
    To answer another question that you might have; what if a team that wins the Europa League finishes top 4 in their league? Then that means regardless they’ll still qualify for the champions league. That specific year they just won’t have a fifth team from any specific league that will qualify.
    You might not see this comment because you posted the video a month ago, but hopefully you will see it because you’ll definitely have a better understanding of the Europa League and how to qualify for the champions league through the Europa League.

    1-) To understand how relegated clubs survive we need to understand how football clubs make money. Basically, exihibition rights (television and pay-per-view), participation on the league (the federation financially helps the clubs), and fans (buying club stuff and going to the games). When a club relegate, the tv rights price, that usually are the large receipt, fall but not enough to make a club crack. They also survive because the amount of money that you need to find a team to play the 1st division is way bigger than to play the 2nd. And clubs usually have their reserves, so it's hard a club dont survive nowadays. But obviously that there are clubs that "die". An example is Nottingham Forest, 2 times Champions League champion in 70s, that is in this days waving between the 2nd and 3rd division of England.
    2-) KGB = Russia's old FBI i think haha.
    3-) If i undestood you, yes will be relegated, don't matter if it's the small Brentford or the current european champions, if in the end of the season the team be on the last 3 in the leaderboard will be relegated, because exactly as you said, are 2 different tournaments. Actually all clubs of Premier League were relegated in some point of the history. The only exception is Brentford that in this season are playing the Premier League for the first time in the club's history..
    Another great video, really nice to see you undestanding more and more about the game.

    So to make it more clear. Your favourite teams (Barcelona and Madrid) were in La Liga (Spanish league). Where stereotypically focused on effective, efficient and accurate plays. That's why they had tiki taka as their trademark especially in 2008-2012 when Spanish national team made a dynasty, the time when most national team will shits in their pants when they faced them. But for the premier League, it had speed and power plays stereotypes and it was called kick and rush. The plays that depends on physicality of the players. But then this style was so old school and inefficient for modern football. And that also the reasons why the top 3 teams coaches (Guardiola for city, Klopp for Liverpool and Tuchel for Chelsea) were foreigners that had progressive visions with efficient and effective tactics. But it doesn't mean they totally rid the physical plays because the other teams, especially the mediocre teams still playing physical plays, so they had to combine and improve their players physicality, technique, and philosophy to accommodate the situations in premier League. So if you want to get entertain by high pace and efficient plays, I suggest you to pick one of those three ( Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea)

As for being a nothing club then getting money that’s an exaggeration, sure Chelsea wasn’t the most successful club before the money but they finished top 4 the year before being bought, and had already gotten European trophies and a league trophy in the cabinet
    Chelsea were more successful prior to being bought, than Tottenham are now
    Leicester is one of the richest clubs in the league, not as rich as Chelsea or City or Utd, but they’re one of the richest teams so while it was still impressive they won the league at all breaking the hegemony of the same 4 teams winning it for 20 years, it’s not as much as they came from nothing spent nothing and won with nothing
