Big props for showing us "THE LESSON" and mentioning (WHAT IF I WAS BY MYSELF) Thank you for that! Keep us from getting complacent, and from heading out un prepared!
Anytime! So glad it was helpful! Every trip I learn something new so the more trips we take, the better we get!
Great video. Great idea including the snafu backing up to retrieve your camera. It’s a great reminder to folks on how quickly things can change.
Thanks! Yeah, I couldn't believe how quickly it all went wrong since it had been so easy going through the first time, but just a little different tire placement on that soft, loose rock and the truck went a totally different way.
Great video man! love seeing the Xterra tackle this kind of terrain, also good info on the 100/200/300 type roads, I've never heard of those labels.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I loooooved my Land Cruiser. It was a very capable 4 wheeler but lord...parts location and prices were just ridiculous. Just picked up an 06 Xterra with a 6 speed/4.0 4x4. Loooove it. I own a lot of other 4x4s but the Xterra feels just perfect. Thanks!
Awesome! The short wheel base makes it feel pretty nimble offroad and they're great, reliable trucks. Enjoy it!
Looks like y'all had a good time. Hats off to your friends for being patient while you recorded the trip, and rescuing those folks.
I know. I appreciated them for sure. I warned them ahead of time that it was a bit different with camera setups, etc. Turned out to be a lot of fun though I hope!
Dang. That’s awesome. This is my first video of yours that I’ve watched. Looks like a rad trip.
I’m working my way through season 2 of your podcast while I’m remodeling my bathroom. I totally appreciate the “budget minded overlander” take. That’s totally what it’s gonna be for me if I ever get my “new” 01 land cruiser mod’d out at all 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for the solid and down to earth content!
Hey Matthew, thanks so much! Glad you liked the video (and that you like the podcast). I think I'll always be a "budget" guy because it just makes sense for this kind of activity (due to potential damage, modifications, etc.). Wait until part 2 of this trip later this week for a recap of the body damage I got on this trip, haha. Thanks for watching!
It looks like most areas an adventure bike can pick a good line! I really wanna explore LBL but I’m afraid of getting my into a bad situation! Can’t wait to go!
I’m think an adventure bike could probably go about anywhere. Just watch out for all the mud pits, 😀. Have fun!
Love the LBL! Thanks for sharing. Great video!
Me too! Glad you liked it!
Great video! Gives a good look with good info. I've hike LBL, and now looking forward to exploring it in the Bronco.
Thanks! It was such a fun trip. Definitely going back again when it’s not so hot, haha.
Thnx for sharing…… My first rig an 05 Ford SportsTrac……up here on the Indiana Dunes !
Thanks for watching! I always thought those sportracs were cool vehicles and would make a good setup for Overlanding.
Nice video...I like it out there at LBL. A really good route is to travel up the Trace past the Elk and Bison Prairie, then take a right onto 153.
L onto 145
L onto 144
R onto 147
R/stay straight onto 324
L on 322
L on 135
Across the Trace onto 139
Stay L on 139
Take that to the end and you're at the lake
Turn around, then on your way out take a right onto 318
That makes for a pretty good ride, and hits most of the high points the North end of the park has to offer as far as trails go.
Also, what road did you take to get to that campsite? Looks great, nice and secluded. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for the info! I think that spot was off 319.
Awesome video! Glad to see you hang with a fellow Lexus off road 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Appreciate it! Yeah, that Lexus is rad!
Dang. That is some serious fun!
It was awesome! You’ll have to make a trip down with me sometime! Wait for pt. 2 for even more off-roading shenanigans!
That ranger was rolling the dice!
Yeah, he got lucky someone came along!
Looks like you guys had a ton of fun the first day out! There's always a reason for a bypass. Man I need a winch.
Haha, it was a blast. Pretty cool that something like that is just about 6 hours from home. Winch's make me feel a lot better going by myself so much!
Thanks for taking us along. Great points on going alone. Looking forward to part 2.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! Pt 2 gets even crazier, so stay tuned, :D.
With those mudholes I can only imagine @@AllThingsOverlanding
@@tpseeker3367 And it hadn't even rained for over a week. I've heard they get a lot crazier.
Been there & playing in the mud is only fun for so long till things start getting damaged @@AllThingsOverlanding. Have you thought about carrying coms so it's easier to communicate when spotting?
@@tpseeker3367 Yeah, I've got built in GMRS and hand helds and my buddy had handhelds too, but we were so close when spotting that we just yelled at each other out the window, haha.
Amazing video man loved it
Thanks Matt! Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh yeah I’m going to need a tent for my rack
It’s kind of a game changer honestly.
Hi. Where did you get those hood latch for your Xterra from?
They aren't the prettiest things, but they work. Here's a link: amzn.to/38uA9Jn
Love the video thank you
Thanks!
Nice that looks like a great place to explore.
So much fun. It was pretty hot when we went so I wouldn't go again in the summer if I can avoid it. But I bet fall and spring are amazing.
Awesome looks fun
Thanks Brian! It was awesome. We hit even trickier trails in Pt. 2 so you'll get a kick out of that one next week for sure!
i love Xterras
Great trucks for the money!
I love this video. I live in northwest Indiana, and would love to come here!
It's a ton of fun to check out. Glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
@@AllThingsOverlanding I’m a subscriber now so I’ll be looking for some Midwest content!
@@hankimus10 Love it! I've been through HNF a lot, up to WI and MI quite a bit and then KY is another great spot. Definitely going to be exploring OH and IL more this winter (I'm a winter camping guy because I hate bugs and heat, lol). And I just got back from a 2 week trip to WY which was pretty awesome, so lots to come!
Nice rig👍 I have a white Pro 4x, just rolled 100,000 trouble free miles. When I wear my current tires out, I’m thinking I’m gonna take the plunge, and lift her, and put some bigger rubbers with the new Nismo wheels! They look sharp. Anywho, Great vid, looks like a blast!
Love the new Nismo wheels and white is the best color in my opinion.
Man thats a great looking site
It was amazing!
what round lights do you have on top of your Xterra? also we are from new Albany Indiana and have harder trails here in town, there are video on my page of them
There are trails in New Albany?!? I'll go check out your page. Make sure to go watch part two of this video as there are some more difficult trails in that one for sure.
The lights on the roof are these and you can get them in white or yellow, but they are great for the money: amzn.to/3ATeNV4
Hi did you make or buy the camera dash mount? Nice Vid
I made it. It's basically camera gear (a fluid ball head with some attachment points for cold shoe mounts and other random stuff I had laying around).
Awesome.. Video..🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍
Thanks!
Where are you getting rods for your Nissan? I have an Infiniti QX56 that I want to turn into a prerunner
Love QX56’s! What do you mean when you say rods?
awesome video! what year/trim xterra is this?
It's an 05 SE and thanks!
@everythingoverland.
What struts do you have for you rear hatch?
I have an empty fuel can on the back and the NEW struts are too weak. The hatch continues to drop on my head. I still need my shovel and jack
If you search thenewx.org for heavy duty rear hatch struts, there were several threads on their that will give you part numbers for the heavy duty 175 lb McMaster Carr struts that I ran on my Xterra. I used that thread back in the day to source the parts and they completely handled all the weight I threw at it with no problem. Hope that helps!
@@AllThingsOverlanding i appreciate you. Hope to see you someday upon the earth
@@abc-def791 Anytime!
I mean if you can do it forward, reason stands you can do it backward…😂😂😂
Right?!? That was my thought. Guess that tire placement is more important than I thought, :D.
Does the rear hatch leak with the bag like that?
I never had any issues with it and had it in some hard downpours. But, I also don't leave it on fulltime, just on trips. Seems to get sandwiched between the seal and the hatch and keeps all the water out.
What size lift is on the exterra.
2.5” lift all around
what is the wheel and tire setup on the Xterra?
I got mine from Trailbuilt Off Road and here's my setup: bit.ly/3aDFYqA
@@AllThingsOverlanding thank you very much!
@@z_max33 Anytime!
Whats ur tablet setup
It's actually a double DIN universal headunit replacement. I really liked it and got another one for my truck after this one. Here's a link if it's helpful: amzn.to/3oyECHu
RIP Jack Hinson
Huh, didn't know what you were talking about at first and then I googled it. Interesting story.
@@AllThingsOverlanding A horrific case of government over reach. I've always wanted to visit that area, but I'm in far Northern CA. I'm looking forward to watching your trip.
You don't have to call it over landing. It's just called camping.
You can call it whatever you want.
