  • A look at the Russian Military Mountaineering Backpack from Russian Cold Camo. The rucksack is 80L, with an additional 20L of storage via two internal side pockets, for a total volume of 100L. In addition, there are webbing straps at the bottom of the pack for lashing a tent or bedroll, as well as shock cord for fixing gear. Build quality is excellent and it would make a very good option for carrying multi-day loads into the woods.
    It is currently on sale. Check it out for yourself at Russian Cold Camo:

    Nice review brother .. I love the ergonomic design, lots of thought on real world practicality was put into it. I like the quick release in the event you need to deal with any unfortunate wild animal attacks that warrant you to have a bit more mobility as you attempt to drive it off or defend against it .. of course there's other reasons why a quick release strap is a great option but that one comes to mind because of an incident some time ago where a buddy and I were attacked by a lone wild boar in a thicket of trees. We were carrying backpacks with what we needed for the time we planned to be there and bam! We heard this thundering fast gallop heading our way but we couldn't see it until it was right on us and the catch dog I had at the time was too young to take on the trip. Dude, that thing was on us quickly and I remember how we were awkwardly trying to position ourselves to line up a shot. Our backpacks were snagging on everything .. my buddy let off a round that struck the ground in front of it and it stopped for a quick second then darted away. It was too dense to let off a good shot so we didn't continue firing, but that moment came to mind when you demonstrated the quick release feature! Awesome backpack!

      Oh wow, Brother! I know that had to have been intense! Those wild pigs are not to be underestimated. There aren’t any up this way, but there are bear, mountain lion, packs of coyotes, and other... things up here. I found some fisher cat tracks today, which was pretty cool. I ran into one a few years ago that darted across my feet at night. They aren’t a concern, but some of the other stuff keeps me pretty alert.
      Thanks for watching my friend. Have a good one! 🤝

    Looks nearly identical to the Lowe Alpine Saracen pack, except that the size pouches are built in on this Russian one.
    It's a great design that's been used for decades that only the USMC ILBE comes close to in comfort.

    It’s a very small feature, but those thumb/ hand grabs are a great add. That’s a lot of carry space, I was looking to get this, but it’s too much. I’ll end up stuffing it full, just because. Great review.

  • @joehadenough1642

    I purchased one about two months ago. I do like it a lot. One thing you forgot to mention is the quick release system on the straps. Once you figure it out it’s really cool. Also it comes with a white bag cover to camouflage for snow. I will say this, the only thing is that adjusting the shoulder straps is a pain in the butt. It is not critically intuitive and it took a while for me to figure out. But after fighting with it, I finally have it so that it sits correctly on my back. Also the pack comes with straps attached to the shoulder straps that can be used for balance/pulling your pack forward etc.

  • @Grizzly907LA
    @Grizzly907LA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That cylindrical design is very popular. The USMC ILBE is very similar. I'm becoming more of a fan of Russian surplus. I have the 35 L patrol pack, the buttpack and I'm getting the Ratnik sleeping bag. The only issue with the Ratnik patrol and buttpack is the buckles. They're pretty flimsy. I cut them off and replaced with stronger ones.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It works well. I think it carries so well because it keeps the weight so close to the center. I haven’t had any issues with buckles on my packs, and use them in some pretty cold weather. Nothing wrong with customizing the gear, though, either. Make it work for you. Cheers

    • @Grizzly907LA
      @Grizzly907LA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I carry the Teton Sports Explorer 65L. It has a lot of similar features... But it didn't include the criss cross bungee cord like your pack... So I actually fashioned my own carabiner bungees with homemade covers in different sizes to the front of mine. They have a multitude of handy uses 🙂 Thanks for the backpack review 👍🏻

    This is a awesome channel glad to subscribe. I'm a backpack junkie myself don't even know the number of my collection. Trying to find a perfect rucksack is impossible until we know how to use it. Most of the rigs I carry for shorter trips are surplus. I was on a four day hike with the ACU three day bag. This is how impressive the mounting options came in to reality I had a two person tent, stove, sleeping bag, and food with two m.o.l.l.e waste bags attached. My girlfriend had some foot trouble the last twenty two miles. I was able to carry everything out of her 40 liter back pack. The modern packs are comfortable but when it comes to hauling gear nothing beats a real rucksack!!

    Thats a really neat pack Jess. The russians really are pretty good at putting things together. Because of you I have purchased and regularly use a few Russian things myself. I recently received a winter fleece Gorka 3, and its just perfect for this time of the year! But a bag like this could potentially replace my "m.a.l.i.c.e" pack?

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Will! I have a large ALICE that I upgraded with the MOLLE II straps and belt. I love it, but the carrying between this Mountaineering pack the ALICE is night and day. It sits the weight much closer to your body. This pack and my Raid pack both carry extremely well. Cheers

    • @williamfordham8081
      @williamfordham8081 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EnduranceRoom you made a m.a.l.i.c.e pack to! Yes its a great pack, I was going to buy a British Army turtle back bergan, but wanted to stay away from the camo at the time, then saw Alice. She was a great pack, but the molle II kidney pad and shoulder straps just took her to a whole new level for sure! And as good as the frame holds the weight with the new molle II components, the pack definitely fills up away from your body rather than up and close!
