You should really share your experience with Harley, you get a lot of exposure on your videos. They absolutely should honor the repair especially if you still have the factory catalytic converter in there.
That sportster s is so cool but there’s so much to go wrong. I love my 883R but maybe I’ll upgrade to a vrod first. I’ve heard those engines are super stout designed with Porsche in Germany

I agree with those who said put the stock exhaust back on first, but that ship has sailed. Despite that, I struggle to see the relationship between the exhaust and the issue with your engine. The HD rep had to reach pretty far up his butt to deny warranty coverage on this one. For 13K, an attorney might be worth a consultation. But it shouldn't even go that far. Stories like this piss me off.

That was during the AMF years, and the crap coming out of the Harley factory wasn't the best. I do kind of agree with those people who say "don't dick with the bike until the warranty runs out." I don't know if it translates to motorcycles but at least in the automotive world the manufacturer has to be able to prove that the modifications you made caused the problem that they're denying the claim in order for it to be a valid denial. I'm not sure exactly what they're saying cause the problem but you might be able to go that avenue.
That being said if you change the exhaust on a bike without altering the tune you have almost certainly made the bike run more lean because of better air flow. This is especially true with modern restrictive catalytic converter based exhausts. Running a bike lean can definitely cause problems and could easily be used as part of the justification for them denying the warranty claim.

@@Jojo-o6o6w The dealer will make money on the repair if they do it. Some dealers are afraid of getting set up if they are doing a little warranty fraud on their own, the factory can be a monster in itself. Replacing an engine is not what the factory wants to do and will look for any excuse not to pay the full bill. I hate to say it, the dealerships least profitable part is service and repair and that goes bad first.

they love to pick and chose when it comes to that..and honestly harley has gotten nailed about the lack of covering warranty issues here in the states last year. So they were told that they don't have to cover the non factory parts but if its factory issues they have to cover it here in the states which I get you're in Canada so not sure how your government handles things like that. Sucks for sure that they are doing the warranty BS with you over it. I know I was told by my dealer that if I was to install a hitch on my bike that it would void the warranty just by simply having it on the bike even if i didn't pull a trailer with the bike and just used a extended platform for added storage. I'd contact a government rep if that's possible as well to possibly help you with the warranty issue. Hope they cover it and get you back out on the road.

When is see a Harley rider with a Tee shirt that say's, " i'd rather push a Harley than ride a Honda", i consider that a cult. LOL. I have a couple of friends that ride Harley. In the time i've had my 1995 Honda 1100 American classic edition, they have had 4 Harley's! Yes, they sold all of them except their current ones because of mechanical problems. Armed with that knowledge, i never wanted one. Getting the most popular one is not the way to go. In addition to my Honda, i bought a 2016 Moto Guzzi Eldorado. It's so reliable and easy to work on. If anyone in the United States or Canada for that matter, you can buy a used for very cheap as they are not popular. Mine listed for 17000 new. I purchase mine in Marietta Georgia 2 years old with 13000 miles on it for 6800$ Easy to work on. The valve adjusters are lock and screw type. With the cylinders sticking out the side, it makes for easy adjustment unlike shim under bucket types. I do all my services myself and it's quite enjoyable. Anyone interested in Guzzi needs to do some research. When Piaggio bought Guzzi sometime around 2010 they went to an eight valve head. Those bikes had valve recall from 2010-2012. Other than that, go for it. www.apriliaforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-315242.html

Chris, so literally looking at the bike numerous times, back and forth, since it started to fail here and there, they said NOTHING about the aftermarket exhaust system until they needed to potentially replace the engine or rebuild it? At what point were they going to point out this issue and mention that this could cause problems with the engine and warranty issues? An aftermarket exhaust allows the bikes engine to breath more easily and reduce pressure back to the engine. If anything, it should improve the bikes reliability not hinder it. OEM Exhausts are there to meet noise/emissions standards, and in doing so make the engine suffer as a result not for the better.

@AdamForeman I agree changing "slip-on mufflers" would not cause damage. I have TAB and Vance&Hines slip-ons. It still is an easy out for Harley-Davidson to blame us as the owner. Changing the full exhaust pipes definitely would so I have stayed away from that. You mentioned early in the video that they accused you of a tune because of the exhaust. A funny thing is how strict they are on the Harley-Davidson ESP warranty. I have it on my 883 and Road King. The ESP does not cover Screaming Eagle parts, HD own aftermarket parts. There is an addendum box and you have to pay extra to get them covered. The point I am making is anytime we as consumers change an OEM part it is our burden to prove. Sounds like you have a good dealer trying to help. I would be surprised if the second factory tech throws the first one under the bus. Good luck and keep us updated.

The Sportster S is the only utterly unreliable bike I have ever owned. I’ve had minor issues here and there with other brands which were not show stoppers and were resolved but the Sportster S let me down on so many occasions. There were several manufacturing issues from new which the dealer had to fix before I could take possession of the bike. It broke down in the fast lane of the interstate on the way home from the dealer after buying it which was the most frightening experience I have had on a bike. It failed to start on a regular basis. It went into limp mode on a regular basis which limited my speed to 20mph and saw cars whizzing past me on fast roads. All sorts of error codes and glitches which HD had no idea how to fix.
I ended up trading it in at considerable cost just to get out of it before it died altogether. I absolutely loved the bike when it worked. Still one of my favourite bikes to ride of all time but absolutely infuriatingly unreliable and not at all worth the hassle. From the number of low mileage Pan Americas I see listed for sale I am guessing the revmax platform is a big problem which needs resolved.
There is no reason on earth to deny a warranty claim caused by an oil feed because you fitted an exhaust. When I hear this it’s clear this is a company which does not stand behind its products and it dissuades me from ever considering another HD.
From seeing your previous videos on the matter I think you have been very patient and handled the issues with grace and good humor. I would not have been so patient.
    Thank you for posting this.

This will be the last Harley I own - I've been thankful that it's been problem free ever since a shut off at 80 MPH on the highway (terrifying to say the least), but the horror stories I've heard about the new Harleys are enough to push me away.
I don't know the law in Canada, but in the US, Harley did try to pull something similar on a customer who, unfortunately for them, had very deep pockets - and they paid dearly when they lost the case in court. I believe it was the same thing; they tried to void his warranty due to an aftermarket exhaust. But we have very specific laws that protect against that kind of behavior.
Wishing you the best of luck!

There are a lot of modifications that would nullify your warranty. Let's say you built up your bike to be a drag racer. You could hardly expect Harley to cover the damage if the you blew up the motor.

First, you bought a Hardley, then complain. Second, those aftermarket noisemaker exhausts don't have enough mid low range back pressure and they cause the bikes to run even leaner than stock, which is already lean, so you likely burned a few valves. So yeah, f*ck around with engineering, now you find out. Being dumb is expensive.

Sorry to hear you are going through this with your bike. I had a 2022 Nightster and had lots of problems, so I empathize. I ended up getting rid of it because it was just too problematic. I also had a 2017 Stage 1+ WRX with an extended warranty, that had many issues. Any time it needed something, even though it was a pain, I made sure to put the OEM parts back on just in case. Warranty techs are fickle. I hope they honor your warranty agreement, though. Lastly, your Jesus jokes were off-putting and offensive. Unsubbing.

Sorry, but if you bought a "Sportster S", which is not a Sportster at all, and not even a Harley, then it's your fault. I have a 2001 883C and a 2006 1200L, and they are doing just fine. They look like Sportsters, they sound like Sportsters, and they feel like Sportsters. The "Sportster S" is a piece of garbage that does none of those things. If you didn't want a Harley, you should have bought Japanese. It might be boring, but at least it would have been reliable.

@@jagjr6772 There is a difference between something sold by Harley Davidson, with their name on it, and a "Harley" A real Harley has a certain look, sound, and feel. It has an air cooled 45 degree single crankpin v twin. "Harley Davidson" ruined the big bikes with the smooth, quiet M8 engine, then they got rid of the Sportster, the last remaining bike that fit the definition of a "Harley" Just the name by itself means nothing.
