Her dissing people for lip syncing before, then blaming the band made it so much worse.
She did the same thing with addressing her nose job. It was so obvious and such a good job but she denied it and also said that you don’t need plastic surgery, you’re beautiful as you are blah blah blah. Just own up to it.
Her band started playing along to the backtrack instead of the song they were supposed to do (and her band was the one who played the wrong backtrack) so yes it is her bands fault and she didn’t lip sync before but had to for this.
That's not why she got blamed because she lip syncing.

She's doing better now. She's a happy family woman and is doing projects more suitable for her. It takes longer for some ppl to mature, especially when living with those parents.

It’s crazy that nowadays it’s rare for an artist to actually sing live! Most artists are just lip syncing. 😢

As a Gen X’er witnessing the transition between disapproval of plastic surgery to more of an acceptance of it has been interesting. One we reason it wasn’t supported unless medically necessary is because we felt that it breaded false narratives about beauty and what constitutes beauty. We thought going under the knife wasn’t worth the risk. That differences make us unique and beautiful.
Jennifer Grey who played in Dirty Dancing and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was set to be a huge beloved actress and then she got her nose job and we “The Entire Country” didn’t recognize her. It changed her appearance so much that we literally didn’t know who the woman was. What made her unique was gone.

I liked Ashlee’s music too. I hate what happened bc I felt like had it not happened we would have got some more great albums/songs from her. I always thought she was just as pretty as Jessica just in a different way.
She got slam because she blamed her band. And in SNL artist didnt lip sync ; except if they were dancing.
I really enjoyed her music, but I agree. For me there were way to many ladies out like her. I was Bomb barded with Avril, Michelle Branch, Liz Phair, Evanescence, Pink. I was surprised she did so well but at the same time. There way to many similiar artists out during this time for me lol. I agree with you too!
Yeah, the whole thing with blaming the band (which was ultimately true), came off so crappy. I feel bad for her honestly. Poor kid. I’m happy she’s moved on from it.
I liked Ashlee, but Jessica’s vocals on her debut albums were insanely good. It’s crazy how singers like Jessica and Britney both could sing but became more pop.
I loved the Ashlee Simpson show🥲 I remember the uproar of her lip syncing. I couldn’t understand the big deal as many big artists and entertainers had been doing it for many years. I felt so bad for her.
I was a huge fan of Ashlee when I was younger. I bought her album and loved it, Giving it All Away is one of my favorite songs by her

This whole thing upset me because I loved Ashlee and her music. I remember watching her show on MTV as she recorded her first album! I was obsessed! I still have her CDs and listen to them lol
I’ve lost my voice because of acid reflux and it’s taken YEARS to heal, I haven’t been able to sing at full capacity for a while. I cannot imagine needing to market yourself and not being physically able to. That SUCKS. Honestly no one would’ve been the wiser if it all went okay.

Jessica’s inconsistent. I’ve seen her sing really well and I’ve seen videos where she was belting with everything she had and it came out weak and flat. I don’t know if she had any vocal training but she seemed like she could benefit from it, Ashlee too.

Autobiography, “Pieces of Me” in particular, still takes me STRAIGHT back to 2004😭 I loved that album, and I think the world did her dirty with that SNL drama. Lip syncing was nothing new, but everyone was acting like she did something completely out of pocket. It was the most ridiculous “controversy” ever.
Also, definitely gonna try the acid reflux tip! I’m a baker, so I’ve always got plenty of baking soda at work, but rarely do I remember to re-up my antacid stash lol

Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing had plastic surgery and suffered the consequences because she became unrecognizable afterwards.
It was definitely the lying and blaming others for the SNL snafu that screwed her over to me. I remember thinking back then "girl, why are you lying and blaming everybody else? Why even provide the band with the full song if it wasn't in the plan to use it? They know how to play the instrumental"
When Ashlee Simpson speaks to the press about her opinion, she should just say the opposite of what she thinks considering she has made multiple conflicting/hypocritical statements.

Ooh yes I watched Ashley when it came out on SNL. She was becoming more popular than Jessica at the time. Felt so bad for her when her performance was exposed and everyone was so mean to her. 😬 I was hoping she wouldn’t kill herself or spiral into depression. But she survived.
Ugh it was cringy when it happened back then and is just as cringy now 🤦🏼♀️ And yes - baking soda and water is the BEST acid reflux cure! And it works immediately - better than any drug out there and much less expensive! 🙌🏼
I think Ashlee was the better singer than her sister. The whole situation at SNL was blown out of proportion. A lot of artists use back tracks. She was needlessly pilloried.

Love the video - I don’t think Ashlee has been thought of as the vocalist in the family. She has a cool voice and an edge about her that made her music stand a part from Jessica. But Jessica (who’s voice has changed a lot due to poor technique and damaging expectations from the pop industry/to sing in a breathy baby voice) had an incredible voice from a very young age. Look up her singing in musical theatre before fame. The habits were already starting to form when she broke out, but try to sing “I wanna love you forever” or “Where you are” start to finish and see if you can make it there (I cannot - it usually ends in a really unfortunate combination of me yelling and gasping for air).
Jessica could really sing. She started out singing Christian + gospel music and her voice was at the forefront. She had a lot of let downs and didn’t find mainstream success in those genres, so they rebranded her as a sexy pop star like Britney and Christina. It wasn’t a hard sell because she was always drop-dead gorgeous, and she found the success she wanted, but it took it’s toll on her voice big time.
Most of the knowledge I’ve retained in life came from watching shows like behind the music on vh1. It has no value and will never be of use to me or anyone else. I’m grateful for this opportunity and I also want to thank no one for reading this 🎤

To blame the band...not a good look at all. The band did the right thing, the show must go on! There was so many better ways she could have handled the situation, but she was only 19. Sad that her career was ruined, she was so young and just getting started!

“Autobiography” came out when I was 9, and I was OBSESSED. I remember watching her show, her relationship with Ryan Cabrera, this all happening on SNL and subsequently the news, with media outlets going wild. I was SO bummed for her. Is she the strongest of vocalists? Maybe not, but she put out some bangers between her first and second albums and I hated how society shunned her in so many ways.

It's weird. As a person alive and cognizant at that time, the media cared, but literally no regular person cared beyond a small lol because it just wasn't surprising. We found people NOT lip synching more reason to talk about them. So long as the track was their voice, it didn't matter to normal people, whether they were fans of hers or not.

Great video! I love Ashlee Simpson! I do think after the SNL situation, she still put out good music! I really liked her second album and a couple songs on the third album, even though they aren’t as popular.
I think a lot of her backlash comes from contradicting herself tbh… Makes disparaging comments about lip syncing,but gets caught doing it. Preaches self love and not changing but gets nose job.

I'm someone with pretty bad chronic GERD and that's such a BS excuse hahaha. I never lose my voice or get voice soreness/pain, it's all concentrated in the stomach and chest area. Unless she was repeatedly throwing up acid, I really doubt that was the issue.
