    Huge thanks to you! Been Learning/trading the markets for the last 7 years. Until 2 weeks ago I had strictly traded with TD Ameritrade. After 50k+ accumulated losses over the years because of TOS platform errors. I finally had enough of them and made the switch. Simple, informative videos that helped me construct my ideal set-up. Definitely cut many hours off the learning curve of this platform. Thank you!

      @@ThinkTradeProfit Thanks for the reply. So far not too bad. I have graduated from a simulator to Active Trader Pro last thursday. Using 10 share size trades and have been getting over 10 dollars per day for this week minus the five dollar loss yesterday. Since thursday I am up over 45 dollars. Taking it slow but my results matched my simulator results. I am in hopes it continues as share size increases.

    Good info, just started using ATR, it helps. Fear of the market makers makes me think twice about all my stops. But generally I do opening range breakouts which rarely need a stop. No VWAP on Fidelity but they do have VMA which seems to match pretty well with VWAP for the first 2 to 3 hours, after which correlation ends fast. That London info is priceless, appreciate that!!

      Then work through my live trading videos. While you may not trade exactly like me, I try to present sound trading principles, ways to plan, trade preparation.

    Awesome video, thank you. Do you physically add stop losses, or do you just use them as a guide “manually”? If manually, how do you handle “freak” candles, wait it out, and hope and pray? Over the last few weeks I’ve had my finger on the button, but just don’t feel ready. My fear is a rogue candle that will wipe me out... or internet, power goes out, buttons don’t work like in one of your videos... I want to make sure I’m protected. Do you / can you add stop losses in your custom buttons?

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tim,
      Great question. For my scalping, in liquid stocks (big names that trade 4 million shares or more a day), I usually use Limit Orders to enter and Market Orders to exit. Most of my trades are less than 7 minutes. I usually don't enter a Stop. I sit with my "finger on the button". Your fears are rational. I feel like that every 6 months or so, there is always some major event that hits markets or a stock, that creates scary conditions. I don't have Stop Orders in my shortcuts, but they CAN be added (alll types). "My fear is a rogue candle that will wipe me out". For this, you shouldn't be trading so big. Know the ATR of your stock through the day. I use ATR(14) on a 1 minute chart. When that is large, trade smaller. "or internet, power goes out" - For this, be very comfortable exiting trades on your phone (backup to home power and internet outages). My problem is breaking news and tweets by some prominent figure that affects the market place. These can hurt. Just ensure your trading size is not so big that a 2-3 point move, doesn't wipe you out. Avoid stocks like TSLA, PTON, GME, that have a tendency to put in "crazy" candles. Likewise, over time, rogue candles can go in your favor if you are on the right side of a position. It evens out. You just have to take action when things don't go your way, just get out. I traded COIN a couple weeks ago , not very familiar with it, but the chart looked good and it had been trading lower. I shorted at a major reversal point and lost 4 points in about 4 minutes. I just got out. It proceeded to trade about 15 more points higher througout the day. I hope that helps. Good Luck!

  • @soundsandpressure
    @soundsandpressure 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When hunting occurs its not the stoploss placement that is the problem, its the brokerage organization you are using. One should be able to place any stoploss as you desire without an automatic program trigger to hunt and set it off. That should never be a problem and is a sure sign that your broker's algo is rigged to take your money. Unfortunately this is all too common in the unregulated world of forex where the vast majority of brokers are scam artists hiding behind a fancy logo and slick marketing.

    Hi Kent, why would Brokers "worry about the order " for stops from small retail traders like us?

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Finspiration,
      Broker dealers sometimes "work" larger orders for institutions or mutual funds, trying to accumulate or sell a large amount of stock over a day (or two). They are not only picking on small retail traders, but will also run stops on other large orders sitting in the market (like 5,000 shares or more). The can push price to a level because they know they have an order to buy even more. They don't worry about our orders. They just want to buy or sell and "print" some shares for whom they are purchasing. For example, Buy 5,000 shares at an average price of 50.35 and push it a little farther and report the sale to their "customer". You bought 5,000 at 50.50.

    I've been thinking about leaving TOS for Fidelity. I already have a couple long term portfolios in Fidelity. TOS is my day trader. But I was unable to short a couple stocks recently ........ namely TSLA on an obvious winner. Lost lots of potential money on a HTB or NTB situation. After googling I see TOS has that issue compared to a Fidelity. I wanted to ask if you've ever been excluded from a short play due to availability with Active Trader ..... more specifically Fidelity.

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I haven't had that issue. Although, I do mostly trade stocks that are non-low float. Using trade-ideas more during the premarket in the past few weeks, I haven't run across any of the high RVOL low-priced stocks that were not available for me to short. If you didn't know, you can scope out stocks you might plan to trade early in the morning using the Directed Trade window and enter the symbol and Sell Short. Then examine the little window to the right of the quantity box. imgur.com/ZZo5jOr From one source, Fidelity has 29.6 million customer brokerage accounts vs TD Ameritrade's 11.5 million accounts. This might indicate that Fidelity will have an easier time locating shares to borrow because of more than 3X the accounts. www.brokerage-review.com/online-brokers/largest-brokerage-firms-byassets.aspx It could be that when TD Ameritrade was having trouble reconciling all the TSLA and AAPL splits and therefore their internal systems were so "off" that it mistakenly did not allow you to short because of a backend system error. Just guessing.

    Another great video. Does Active Trader Pro have a 'daytrader' or 'daily' EMA OR SMA for us daytraders? I modified my SMA to 8 (assuming that means the past 8 days?) Was wondering if i should set this to "1" for daytrading? Thanks for any guidance, much appreciated.

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steven, Thanks again for your support! The setting for SMA's or EMA's affects a a period of time which would be dependent on what Frequency you are using on your chart. For example, I use a 50 EMA on my 1 Minute chart. The '50' causes it to look back over the data in the last 50 minutes. If you are using a Daily chart, then I would not set it to 1. You would want to look back over a period of Days. In my opinion the most popular period settings for moving averages for day traders are 9, 21, and 50 on whatever time frame you use on your main chart that is used to make trade entry and exit decisions. The 9 and 21 could be used for short-term scalping. With the 50, I consider it a reminder of the short-trend.

It makes me wonder if should just load up on 1 or 2 instead of 5,6,7,etc.. plan was to try to gain $200 per position and sell if down $100.. Thanks for any input....

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steveng8727 I think to start you should probably concentrate on just two stocks. Then compare them to SPY (keep a chart of this up all day long). I wouldn't buy anything right after the open. just watch, wait till about 10:15am . Then you could try to time your entries with pullbacks to the 9 SMA or EMA where price dips below a little bit. AXP is good, but be careful with BA, it's very, very wild.

    Also do huge options bets at certain prices actually mean that market makers will try to drive the price to make these options profitable?

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the market makers are too concerned about making the options profitable. I believe these are mostly psychological levels, traders have stop losses at round numbers, and maybe also Buy Stop Market orders (e.g. if AAPL hits 250, then Buy 200 shares at the Market) at round numbers. Everything can be inter-related. Some people use Options to hedge big positions in Stocks.

      I use the SELL MKT to get out of a position in fast markets (quick scalps). I don't use the BUY MKT very much. I like to enter my positions with LIMIT orders. and then exit with LIMIT or MKT Orders. I hope that helps. Good Luck!

      Hi Diego,
      Open any chart, then select Indicators, Average True Range (ATR) is one of the first listed, then apply that to your chart. Good Luck!

    Fidelity has hot keys?

      Unfortunately, no. Fidelity does not have hot keys. I think the fastest way to enter orders is through Directed Trade custom buttons as seen in this video. th-cam.com/video/nq6oUospoiE/w-d-xo.html
