As a guy old enough to remember the pre-selfie era I'm actually quite surprised that this effect has much strength left. It must certainly be weaker than it used to be. Until very, very recently a picture of yourself was still a relatively rare thing to see. It's hard for someone not old enough to conceive of this. Less than three decades ago was culturally closer to Civil War days than the present when it comes to photos. Anyway, today anyone can take as many photos as they want. Looking at yourself in photos or video has become much, much closer in frequency to the amount of times you see yourself in a mirror; many people do it many times every day. Still much less, but the closing of the gap should make a real difference. Your unflipped face was a virtual stranger to you before; hardly so now even if it's still quite a bit less familiar than the flipped one.
How is It possible? I'm my case the difference is really noticiable... I'm really ugly and strange with lots of asymetry and when I invert the Pic all disappear.

"good pictures are like social currency". Coudnt have ever said it better myself. A good set of pictures can make u more attractive and can gather attention for yourself. Its a good thing to invest in an apsc camera.

The reason you gave for "looking better in the mirror" is not true,
it's due to the focal length of the camera lens used, not capturing your form accurately to how it is in real life. Higher focal lengths, like anything over 50mm do a better job of capturing how you look IRL.
So that's why we often tend to look better in the mirror/RL, and not so accurate in photos and unphotogenic
but you do look the same way you do in the mirror thats why its been used for so long aswell

The linked article has a whole little section on selfies. It's rather odd and doesn't really give any advice or reason to take them. Most social media, dating, or professional guides discourage taking them and I can't really see any reason to do so, other than in an "emergency" if you want to get some photos in the field and you don't have a tripod or friend. Regular selfies, again, are just compromised-setup versions of regular photos that are subject to unsightly fisheye distortions and so forth. Mirror selfies are another such compromise; they don't have fisheyeing but also look worse than straightforward photos and have a "cheap" vibe to them. Pretty much unnecessary to add except very sparingly to your online portfolio (and not really for professional or dating-profile purposes at all). I don't even use physique mirror selfies much for my private purposes anymore, since it's rarely necessary. You'll notice fewer and fewer selfies on high-profile social media profiles, for good reason. It was kind of goofy seeing things like "the hidden-face selfie" featured like some sort of photo genre that should be learned.
Good content though! It's definitely a worthwhile time investment seeking out some professional-advice videos (on the basic level) about topics like lighting physique photos. Makes a *huge* difference. And this video wasn't kidding when it reminds you that everyone edits, or uses tips like this. If you know anyone who's worked with them on content, you know that the most beautiful people on social media--and yes, they are genuinely beautiful--nonetheless tend to be the most skilled and demanding about their shoots. That "candid" photo in the gym locker room is the best one of dozens or even hundreds; they are often in there working hard for truly huge amounts of time.
I disagree, as long as you don‘t overuse the selfie, it makes you relatable. Its sort of like a POV, because everyone knows what its like to take a selfie of themselves. It can give a spontaneous and lighthearted vibe that staged photos cannot provide
a lot more simple advice; with enough lighting and a nice background any photo will look good regardless of the main subject. just have a good phone/camera tho.

@@Vizible21 it is an excuse though. No matter if your a 6,4 tall handsome dude or some random guy with a patchy beard. If you want to take good photos than you will have to adapt these tips. Even good looking guys can be fucked by a camera because the camera isnt the same as a mirror.
All these tips are good. Instead of being a bitch to yourself. Why don't people start to change what they can actually change. Like their body fat. Hair style,beard. Why don't they start by working on their skin. Maybe investing some money into a stylist. They recommend hair and beard styles and are quite honest about what would work and what wouldn't work with you.

What about making a video instead of a photo and then extracting the photo from the video taken at the moment when you look best?

I am not photogentic. I look much better IRL thqn in photos (i am not the only one that thinks that). My face tends to look much fatter in most photos that get taken of me. Get told it is due to the specific lens, lighting, and angles.

A pro photographer once told me the secret to taking good photos is to take a LOT of them and throw away the bad ones lol.
If you ever have headshots done, you may have 500-600 pics taken. There's bound to be a good one in there somewhere. Especially now that we don't use film anymore, there's no limit to the number of shots you can take.
