Thanks Barry for your very practical instructions on refreshing the top half. I have a rebuild kit ordered now that should be here in a few days. Can't wait to get my noisy 2 HP Bridgeport head quietened down again.
You make it look so easy. Experience will do that for you. Thanks for keeping these wonderful machines running like they should. I can't imagine life without a Bridgeport and I'm just a hobbiest.
I have that same noise up high. I am 90% sure its the bearing in that cap. My disks and belt and all that is fresh thanks to yall. I may just order that bearing and make sure I have the wavy washer.
Does anyone know the correct number of links in the speed adjust chain? I'm asking because the lowest spindle speed my machine will adjust to is 154 RPM, with the speed dial indicating that the lowest speed in low range should be 60RPM. Causing me to suspect that the chain may be too long, preventing the rocker plate from pulling the top half of the front pully down far enough to achieve minimum speed.
The main things you would want to look for are excessive heat, bearing squeal from the lower bearings or excessive play between the splined gear hub and spindle pulley hub. If you are not getting the heat or bearing noise then run the machine in both high range and low range. if you are getting significantly more noise in high then you may need to replace the splined gear hub which would put you more in line with a complete upper head rebuild. Give us a call at 800-285-5271 if you would like to discuss the things to look for in more detail. -Barry

Thanks, this was a great educational video 👍👍💪
When re-installing the snap rings, make sure they are properly (completely) seated in the groves. Guess how I learned to double check...

There should be 12 plus the master link.
@@HWMachRepair Thanks very much for the prompt reply. I'll check my machine for the correct number of links.
My machine is making pretty much that exact noise. What are signs of needing to do a whole top half rebuild instead of the refresh?

Thanks Barry, no heat and no noise in high, so does sound like the refresh more than than a full rebuild
You forgot to tighten cover screws after top bearing cap was installed.
