Teft's oath is probably the first time a book made me cry. With clinical depression and self-loathing that comes with it, this scene hit way too close to home. Oathbringer's last part was full of big moments but this one is special for me.
Honestly, I always found his oath to be a bit weirdly phrased though. The Windrunners are supposed to be all about being selfless and protecting other people who need protecting. But if interpreted literally, Teft’s third Ideal affectively reduces to “I will protect myself even though I hate myself”, which if anything is more selfish than selfless.
@@fanghur Because Teft is a good man. He just needs to forgive himself in order to protect others. He does it naturally. Speaking his Third Ideal is what makes me capable of protecting others.
Without Kaladin I couldn't have overcome my depression, without Teft I couldn't have overcome my drug addiction and without Dalinar I couldn't have kept striving towards my goals. This series changed my life forever. And I am forever grateful to Brandon Sanderson for writing it.
8 years clean teft was my favorite for obvious reasons. I know what it’s like to hate yourself.i know what strength it takes to overcome addiction. When he rose in the air and had his moment.
You cannot have my pain is my main sobriety mantra. The twelve steppers say one day at a time but somehow Sanderson has helped me more then any meeting I’ve been too.
This is arguably one of my favorite moments from any book I’ve ever read. Sanderson does an incredible job using prose to articulate the challenges of different mental illnesses and disorders, but Teft’s addiction and self loathing hit so close to home it hurts. I’ve sobbed twice in this book series, both times were Teft’s big scenes. I’ve been waiting to hear you guys do this one and I’m so happy about it
I love a lot of the ideal moments, but this one is different. This one feels real in a way the others don't. I relate a lot to Teft in ways im ashamed of. The first bit where he talks about functioning just to keep people from worrying was me for almost 2 years with alcohol. I genuinely don't know if I would be able to say this ideal. Words of power in fantasy was always one of my more least favorite tropes, but this is a shining beacon of what introspection can do for you. I hope one day I can say my third ideal too.
man i feel it, i have an iddiction to get over, i hope some day to day my third ideal and tatto it on my skin, to remember it all my life that i can forgive myself and surpass
im form Costa Rica so my english isn't nice but, i have one last thing to say to u. Our mistakes aren't all of us, we can fall once again, and once, but it doesn´t define us, we are more than our mistakes
This segment makes me sob the big one! I absolutely love Teft! And knowing the kind of pain someone feels dealing with chronic depression only makes this scene hit so much harder! It’s oftentimes the ones with the roughest exteriors ,much like Teft, that have the biggest hearts which I think applies here tenfold! #TeftForever #IWillMissYou 😭
it wasn't because they were the best it was because they did their best it wasn't because they committed no wrong it was because they sought to end all wrong it wasn't because they could save it was because they had to save

Teft always had a special place at my heart

The music in this bit is phenomenal. This is Graphic Audio at its best.
I was trying to tell this part of the book to my wife and I couldn't because I kept getting chocked up thinking about it.
