Hey Cody, just revisited this list. Hmmmm.... I own more than a few of FF games. YES, TI3 (have all the expansions) is amazing. I will love to KNOW a small handful of people to play this with. My #1 is "Operation Tannhauser", which I've collected everything, of course...IF I had one wish for you, it would be that you and your friends jump into this game... magic, guns, tech, and beautifully painted figures, right out of the box. Expansion figures, mercs and so many options... over the years I've taken this game beyond the original rules to such fun places... build a new board from all your "Mansion of Madness " pieces for new missions (some house ruling involved), throw in some zombies, mad dogs... whatever you like. My second favorite game is "Gears of War", which is a marvel of production... the mini's and sculpts are just the best. I KNOW you'd love this game. They put out a small box series... of which CONDOTIERRE is genius (Kinitzia)... small footprint but fantastic game, which could play six players. Their small card games really worked well.
I used to own Operation Tannhauser. I loved theme, but I thought game play was just so-so. I sold it several years back. I wish I'd held on to a little while longer when the price when up. Haven't played Gears of War, but heard that one was fun. Thanks.
I am with you on Star Wars Rebellion and Battlestar Galactica. The tension and stress created in those games is amazing. The decisions you make are crucial, which to me is the most important aspect of making a game interesting and fun. The stories created from each session are just fun, and conversations created for 30-40 minutes after a game with your friends about what happened are the signs of the best games. I have only played TI4 a couple times and it is also good. Maybe a few more playthroughs will make it great for me as I will be less focused on learning the game.
I completely agree with you about Twilight Imperium 4th edition needing an expansion. 8 players would be awesome. More races? Yes please! And more modular elements that made TI3 so much fun!
Have you tried Chaos in the Old World? Thats my #1 from FFG and overall for that matter. I understand that you appriciate Eric Langs designs? Such a shame FFG lost the GW licence so no expansions for Forbidden Stars and everything is out of print. Still waiting for the right moment to try out TI...

TI4 is screaming out for some more content but still it's an unbelievable game. Rebellion vanilla is my favourite flavour but it's easily one of my favourites overall. Good stuff!
I have no idea what happened there. It looked good when I previewed it before I uploaded it. Weird. I agree, we need more TI4 content ASAP! Love me some Rebellion, too.
Great top 5!!! I'm quite a FFG fanboy myself. I'd add some more mentions like Gears of War, Middle Earth Quest and Descent. Regarding BSG, which expansions if any do you play with?
I own them all. Mechanics wise, I generally only use stuff from Pegasus, namely the Pegasus game board- not the New Caprica stuff. However, every expansion has brought cool new figures and characters to the game. There's good stuff in every box. I keep thinking I'll get adventurous one day and want to try one of the other mechs like Mutineers, but I get to play it so rarely that I just want to have fun with the game as I play it.
Excellent video as always. Lord of the Rings LCG will always hold a special place in my heart. Sunk a lot of money into that one. I think Arkham Horror LCG is also Fantasy Flight. By the way, have you ever played Cave Troll (published by FF)? It's a fantasy dudes on the map game that plays in 45 minutes. My copy is arriving today. Love your tap dancing skills by the way! :)
Cool list!!! I've heard a lot of great things about TI4, but I think my problem with this game is how I'm going to find a store selling it here in my country! Hey Cody. Quinns from SU&SD also said they thought Rebellion was a derivative from the greater game War of the Ring (2nd edition). Would you agree? What are your thoughts on that?

Ah, FFG. Probably responsible for over 25% of most of our games to be honest. I agree with what you say about the FFG/Disney/GW thing, for myself it was, well for me it was the beginning of the end of a lot of support for FFG. I still can't fault them though. To me they will always be the company that came up with Runebound, that perfected it's mechanical predecessor Talisman, (with the addition of Fate.) that made the most engaging board game for Super Heroes up until Legendary, the company that made many of us seriously reconsider how we viewed both narrative and challenge in games with the Arkham Files, and of course, the only company with the absolute stones to even *attempt* to seriously put the name "Horus Heresy" on a box, much less actually deliver that iconic experience on a board! Their past games are so good it makes a top five almost impossible due to how fluid it is but for now it would be: 1. Forbidden Stars 2. Eldritch Horror 3. Relic (Nemesis/Halls of Terra) 4. Runebound 2nd Edition 5. NetRunner. Again, they may as well *all* be number one they are so close to each other. :)
Horus Heresy from FFG was a reprint (slightly tweaked) from Games Workshop's own Horus Heresy boardgame that came in the 90s. So no, it was not the company to "attempt it". Arkham Horror was first released by Chaosium in the 80s. Netrunner was from Wizkids in the 90s. Fury of Dracula came in the 90s from Games Workshop first. Relic is just Games Workshop's Talisman with tweaks. X-Wing took at it's core the Wings of war system. Rex is a reskin of Dune, Borderlands was a reprint, Merchant of Venus was from over 2 decades ago... I just would not credit FFG that much for the ideas behind many of their games. Many/Most of their games of the 2000s before the Asmodee purchase were actually licensed, or they simply were a publisher for another company, like Dust Games, or they bought a design and reprinted it (most of the euros they brought out) I would credit them however for raising the quality of components in the entire industry. I hope so, too, but I'm not holding my breath. I think that FFG let the license expire after the show was off the air for a while and no longer hot. I think they were trying to make New Angeles the new BSG. New Angeles is a great game, but it's not BSG.

Both sides are not playing the same game. Like Android Netrunner. The two sides have different goals, objectives, etc.. And they do not have the same abilities, strengths, etc...
War of the Ring was not an FFG game. Cosmic Encounter is was just okay. And I hadn't played Arkham Horror LCG when I made this list. I've played it since, still wouldn't make the top five.
FFG are great for Living Card Games and dungeon crawlers (even sci fi ones) ...... when They can keep their IP license for them ..... *mmmmiiaaaaaaaiiiiiiouuuu* real catty there...
I have tI 3 and we tryd it 4 times , and in all that 4 exsp . after more than 3 hours of playing we where rolling dice twice and nothing big happend , just taking planets and building ships, after tree hours it start to be interesting but for me , I just think there is no game in the world that can get that much credits ... Starting 3 hours of play ...so litlle thing happend , it is big , and epic yes ... but it is so slow... 3 hour of waste to game start working and be interesring ?!! nope ! we better play 4 other games that day and have so much difrrent aspects of Fun. If the game last more then 4 hours it just can't be masterpiece!
It can be slow. I think a lot of people go into it expecting epic space battles right off the bat, thinking that at its heart it is a wargame. But that is not the case. In fact, war is only a very small part of the game. I won a game once and only participated in one small combat action. I love this game for what it does - creating an epic space opera that encompasses not just war, but diplomacy, economics, politics, trade, exploration, and science.
I know , but at the beginning of the game strategic cards sec. abilityes are doing nothing ... for more then 30 min you just activate sistems and take planets ... what is fun abouth that ? I wanted to like this game , I spend my last 100 $ for that game but there is just so litlle friends who want to try it again. Now after 4 eddition came out I can't even sell the game for normal price. Then I saw Imperial card it says - " get two victory points " for nothing and we start fighting for that card like fanatics, nobody cared abouth galaxy board anymore.... ...After 9 hours i won because manage to take that imperial card more then others ... We all just start putting game parts back in the box with terrible silence ...for me IT is great game nobody wants to play again...
Star wars rebellion would be better if they got rid of the card that makes I believe Wedge Antilles a death star killer. That one card has lost every game for me as the empire. It makes winning as the empire impossible in my opinion.
Really don't get Mansions of Madness 2nd ed. Seems like the app is only a couple of tweaks away from being completely self-sufficient, making the physical components feel almost like an afterthought, the puzzles are completely pasted on, the stories are kinda lame and worst of all decisions are really minimal. And with only three scenarios, replayability is extremely low... Arkham Horror the Card Game seemed to me like a better design although I can't be bothered to buy all the expansions.
There are far more than three scenarios now available for the MoM. I can see your point about it being nearly a self-sufficient app game. Still, it's a great story telling game with tons of atmosphere and creepy theme. I disagree about decisions. How you use your characters can be the difference between wining and losing. Also, multi-player games lead to negotiation between players for jobs and missions to undertake. I really enjoy it. But, to each their own.
Well you would only need to be able to move the monsters/characters on the app and the physical components would be entirely superfluous, which is a conscious decision on FFG's part to be able to justify selling a boardgame, not a technical limitation. There might bee more scenarios available through the expansions but the base game comes with only three so personally I've played it three times and I'm basically done with it, which is extremely poor value for money even if I had enjoyed it. As for the decisions, they all seemed either completely obvious or completely arbitrary (like go pick that clue first rather than that one) so maybe I missed something but it was a bit of a hollow experience for me. The creepiness was undermined by the graphics and sound effects which were kinda cheesy for me but that's strictly personal.
I’m disappointed that there aren’t more people into board games. You’re reviews really helped me choose which games to get though and hopefully the community grows.
Thank you, sir. I agree!

I would credit them however for raising the quality of components in the entire industry.
To me, the staples of FFG are their inhouse designs. Not the ones that just copied/reprinted others.
Space Hulk death angel,
Runebound,
The original Doom: tbg, (Descent was almost a straight up fantasy copy of it)
Twilight Imperium,
Diskwars,
Gears of war tbg,

FFG are great for Living Card Games and dungeon crawlers (even sci fi ones) ...... when They can keep their IP license for them ..... *mmmmiiaaaaaaaiiiiiiouuuu* real catty there...
Ha!
We all just start putting game parts back in the box with terrible silence ...for me IT is great game nobody wants to play again...
no Ff, but did you played War of the Ring SE?
I have not. Yet.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer If you liked SW Rebellion is for you. And I bet you will rank it higher. The combat is cool too.
Star wars rebellion would be better if they got rid of the card that makes I believe Wedge Antilles a death star killer. That one card has lost every game for me as the empire. It makes winning as the empire impossible in my opinion.
Interesting.
Cosmic Encounter
Good, not great game. I preferred the Game of Thrones version. Even then I just felt it was an okay game, nothing to write home about.
*Holds nose at app based boardgames*
Ha!
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer J/K, I Kickstarted UBOOT boardgame with app...better be good...
@@juliesquirrel5269 It looks good.
@@romain2725 Well, agree to disagree. I love it.
Sure! Have you played Arkham Horror: The Card Game by the way?
