I loved the Smiths since the first album. I loved Electronic. I love how Johnny moves forward constantly without looking back too much. Love his new songs. Never really NEEDED Morrissey did he, great as The Smiths were. Love his approach to guitar and love Fender, their amps and guitars and Leo Fender himself is also an inspiration to me. Bought one of the Johnny Marr signature Jaguars recently, Love it! Been playing a 1966 Fender Twin Reverb amp and 80's Strat forever myself...this is great!
Johnny's voice here is better than ever! Love his new style - just Jaguars, Fender amps and straightforward rock'n'roll. Love "The Messenger" and can't wait for the new record.
I’m not particularly a Smiths fan but man I love Johnny Marr. He just seems like a super dude and I just love how passionate he is about Jaguars and fender
I just love that he’s popularised the Jaguar. After Stratocaster‘s and telles for almost 40 years and after having no interest in Jaguars I’ve bought 2 and will likely buy a signature series JM and a big part of it is thanks to Johnny Mar. Such a great ambassador for Fender
Johnny Marr has lived on in relative obscurity in ancillary bands since "The Smiths" but he still has all od the beautiful sounds that defined the music of that era.
imho the jaguar is the greatest guitar fender have produced. have always loved them and in 12 days time i will be the proud owner of my own squier vm jaguar (in white with tortoiseshell pickguard). i cannot wait tbh :-) obviously am going to try and learn some classic smiths/marr tunes to play on it (hums intro to how soon is now ;-) rock on everyone ;-)
I dig the Johnny Marr sig Jaguar in White, but I dig it even more in that Metallic KO. I would really like to try it one day and maybe even buy it. Great video over all.
Well, if you like this, check out Bailter Space. They got there 20 years ago. Good stuff, but Fender only half the story here, if you know what I mean.
I'm surprised they didn't make Doviak play a Fender. Why have him there at all if you're hardly going to show him, just because he's playing a Gibson?.
When he speaks while you close your eyes for a moment, you can actually hear Liam Gallagher, talking like a normal person... And not to mention there's ABSOLUTELY no "D'you know what I mean's" 😂😂😂
Johnny is part of a long line of melody rhythm players from the uk are the guitar is used in service of the song not the other way around. Keith Richards Johnny. Coxon. Even billy Bragg. However the lack of guitar solos is often somewhat frustrating. It's like there is no orgasm. I have seen Johnny live a couple times and yes the sound is great. But I found myself wanting Johnny to open up in terms of the playing. A bit more improv from the band and guitars.
Oh yeah him & Ronnie Wood look like Indians from Santa Domingo from New Mexico just as CLASSIC oh n they make the most beautiful jewelry in the Southwest
The music would make a better movie soundtrack than an album. It was pretty generic sounding. The Fender equipment looked as good as they sounded. The black on black bass was hot. Oh yeah, the guitars were nice too.
Jeah, in german: Werbung für Fender :-) Was der Herr Marr wohl dafür bekommt? Was solls, ich mag sein Gitarrenspiel! Es ist einfach cool! Ist aber echt eine echt schlimme Frisur mittlerweile ;-)
One of my favorite guitarists of all time---what a great style and ability to layer tracks, and he's played with some of my favorite bands-- a true guitar legend in my opinion. That said, he is not a good lyricist and an even worse singer--boring as hell, even embarrassing at times. He should recognize and utilize his strengths, not weaknesses. Also, he takes himself way too seriously.
Yeah, I agree. That is what happens when words like "legend" get constantly thrown around. It would get to some people's head. Though I must say, at 50 he doing a lot better than what Clapton and Richards were doing at that age.
Still nowhere near as good as The Smiths. Where are the fantastic vocals? Where are the legendary lyrics? I'm quite disappointed with how both Morrissey and Johnny Marr's careers have ended up. Reform The Smiths ASAP.
Ever played in a band or partnered up with a friend and tried to make music? I found that someone will take the lyric content & someone will wind up the musical director & others will contribute both. You generally play to your strengths in that environment, and develop from there. I found I'm less capable of lyric than music. My friend found he was more lyrical. We worked well while we tried to write some original material. Later, I tried to write similar songs solo & found the lyric was letting me down. Obviously I'm not Marr or Morrisey but I have empathy with their individual situations now, as compared to the strength of The Smiths catalogue they developed together.
One of the last great guitar innovators proving he's still one of the best. Pure class.

Awesome! Love Johnny, great atmospheric and jangly guitar player. Love "The Messenger"
That is some fantastic bass playing on "The Messenger". I've not heard Marr's solo stuff until I found this vid, definitely liking what I hear.
The Messenger is just incredible....sooo beautiful.
This is the first time I listened to Johnny's solo material and I must say I was definitely missing something.
And the second time?
I love Marr and Doviak is doing a fantastic job. We don't see him much in this video because of the guitar he plays. Jack and Iwan are great too.
I’m not particularly a Smiths fan but man I love Johnny Marr. He just seems like a super dude and I just love how passionate he is about Jaguars and fender
An awesome artist, through and through.
I just love that he’s popularised the Jaguar. After Stratocaster‘s and telles for almost 40 years and after having no interest in Jaguars I’ve bought 2 and will likely buy a signature series JM and a big part of it is thanks to Johnny Mar. Such a great ambassador for Fender
poor guitarist number 2. the camera is allergic to him 'coz of his gibson les paul. lol!
Lol. So sad and petty.
Marr always does that. His No.2s have a Gibson and/or Gretsch.
Don't bring a knife to a gun-fight.
Yeah, but to the bass player as well - even though he plays Fender ;)
Johnny Marr has lived on in relative obscurity in ancillary bands since "The Smiths" but he still has all od the beautiful sounds that defined the music of that era.
Good to see (and hear) Lockdown is included on this video - superb track from The Messenger!
I also love Johnny's no nonsense style, Jaguar's and Fender Amps. Real music and the sound is Awesome.
fuck, this guy is the meaning of cool
Superb tone
1:16 - SUN AND MOON
5:26 - THE MESSENGER
11:02 - LOCKDOWN
15:08 - I WANT THE HEARTBEAT
Brilliant. As always.
imho the jaguar is the greatest guitar fender have produced. have always loved them and in 12 days time i will be the proud owner of my own squier vm jaguar (in white with tortoiseshell pickguard).
i cannot wait tbh :-)
obviously am going to try and learn some classic smiths/marr tunes to play on it (hums intro to how soon is now ;-)
rock on everyone ;-)
Totally agreed man, they're so underrated. I just like the 2 single coil configurations a lot, and this guitar is definitely a dream guitar.
How do you hum a song with heavy tremolo??!!! I tried, but I just started coughing 😜
Absolutely love Johnny xxx makes my day brilliant, what a true guitarist and genuine person he is x
THE MESSENGER, GREAT SONG!
I love the delays in the messenger.
Living legend!
Hes such a beast. Makes me wanna buy a jag
Hes getting better.
I dig the Johnny Marr sig Jaguar in White, but I dig it even more in that Metallic KO. I would really like to try it one day and maybe even buy it. Great video over all.
Legend the messenger is a great song It transports you is atmospheric!!
I'd be the messenger that tells the world how great this guy is.
I really slept on this guy's solo material. Really digging these songs.
Do more concerts Fender.
Nice looking Souldier strap too…It's the little things!
only jonny would swap a jag for a jag in a live set haha, the best to ever do it
he's the best.
Master!
GENIO!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice Gibson Les Paul Deluxe to round out the guitar section? Surprised Fender let that one slip by..
I do anything to play guitar or bass for this man
What a nice jaguar
I love Johnny's guitarrist, hi's in a fender film and use a gibson les paul
God damn this is so fucking good.
This kid is kick ass.
When are you coming to NYC JM?
when he mentioned Television, I thought he meant the band!
lockdown is a dope song im actually digging it
At 5:49, that bridge is set very high.
I love headstock cams
Opening with an Octofuzz - gutsy!
That’s one in the face to all those that write him off as too hi if sounding!
Genio
I still love johnny fucking marr's music his band makes it
I love it , but why it is playback?
Well, if you like this, check out Bailter Space. They got there 20 years ago. Good stuff, but Fender only half the story here, if you know what I mean.
I'm surprised they didn't make Doviak play a Fender. Why have him there at all if you're hardly going to show him, just because he's playing a Gibson?.
who's the man playing bass?!!!
Dat was fuckin' great.
Well, that was rather fucking brilliant.
VISIONARIO!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Johnny marr you playing a 🎸
When he speaks while you close your eyes for a moment, you can actually hear Liam Gallagher, talking like a normal person... And not to mention there's ABSOLUTELY no "D'you know what I mean's" 😂😂😂
Wicked
What is the first song he plays?
Onboard Jaguar cam oh my
I think the new songs were rather good.
What's that first song called anyone?
What cables an plugs Johnny using?
***** What do you use / recommend please?
Thank you Steve. I can't get them here in the U.K :-(
I'm using George L but the cable is crap. It's inflexible and tangles.
gibson in the parts???
lol
Thank God Johnny has moved on from the Smiths. He is much better doing his solo music. I am not a fan of the Smiths but I love Johnny Marr.
STRATMAN firdaus He does play smiths songs every now and again but yes he does have his solo work now. Truly amazing guitarist.
You know he's been in several bands since the smiths?
No bro..Johnny Marr Morrisey Mike Joyce Andy Rourke made music together..Johnny by himself is missing something i.e the other three!
poor guy with the les paul xd
he's probably featured on the Gibson YT Channel - this is Fender old chap.
Serves him right for playing such a shitty guitar (oj mind)
録音良いね
ちょっとコンプレッサーかけすぎたけど
Yeah I know Johnny
melodyne is strong with this one
Your Audio Engineering Knowledge goes deep Trendy-Hipster-Beard. Wash away your sorrowful pretense in a shower of cold Craft Beer.
Allen Rassa okay

Softly spoken Professor Marr and loud music. Great, however. Guitar is correct pitch to the vocals therefore deals with TH-cam compression. Cheers X
Why’d they even bring the les Paul guy on stage 😂
Poor Doviak😂 he's a great guitarist even if it was a Fender event and they didn't even film him.
The music would make a better movie soundtrack than an album. It was pretty generic sounding. The Fender equipment looked as good as they sounded. The black on black bass was hot. Oh yeah, the guitars were nice too.
I agree with the black on black bass & the guitars being nice.
jangly = a rickenbacker 330 or 360... sorry Fender
Nice les paul
hmm, live, but not always synced up.
Am I the only one that has noticed the video and sound are out of sync ?
Tony Montana plays guitar!
Anyone?
Anyone?
No?
He looks more like postman pat.
?
Jeah, in german: Werbung für Fender :-)
Was der Herr Marr wohl dafür bekommt?

jaguar is for lead stuffs people who play rhythm suck
es un aficionado, no sabe tocar mucho, practica mas¡¡¡¡¡¡
A wonderful guitarist. excellent in the studio, much loved and widely respected, but i really wish he wouldn't sing

typical corporate nonsense
Johnny has cool style. But he really must do something different with his hair...
Sorry. I know that's not what this video is about.
Still nowhere near as good as The Smiths. Where are the fantastic vocals? Where are the legendary lyrics? I'm quite disappointed with how both Morrissey and Johnny Marr's careers have ended up. Reform The Smiths ASAP.
Well of course it's not going to be like the smiths. Move on they're never getting back together
there's something inexplicable about his post-Smiths output, like Orson Welles he maybe is living his career backwards.
seen as morrissey wrote most of the smiths songs its obviously not going to be as good
Charlie Wright
no, u r mistaken my friend, Mozza was the lyrics man, Jhonny bossed the tunes.

Great guitarrist, dull singer.
I hate this sound - what a waste of a fender gutiar
