    CORRECTION: The sapphire glass is NOT AR-coated unlike many of the Orient Star divers which I must've mixed it up with. Thanks to viewer Slo for pointing it out!

    I'm not a huge fan of round indicies, but I do have to admit, they look good on the Kamasu 2. Thank you for posting.

      Thanks for watching! I myself was a bigger fan of the Mako numeral indices over the round indices too until these new Kamasu’s came along.

    Wait, is it actually AR-coated? I've also heard of other small improvements.
    I'm quite happy with my original Kamasu, but it's always good to see improvements with each new iteration.

    Sean,
    I think Orient,Seiko,Casio are all excellent. I honestly don’t know why people spend so much more for watches for nothing better. Japanese products are fantastic. Do you agree?

    • @ShaunSeahSG
      @ShaunSeahSG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do agree these Japanese watches are definitely really great value for money and few people would have real use for more than what they already provide. I would say that spending more for say Swiss or German watches would be entirely personal, be it for the design or branding or simply heritage. Not saying that I'm for or against it as it's a completely personal decision but for sure there are diminishing returns beyond a certain point. Thanks for watching!

    Hi I think when you say "original" you are referring to the 1st gen/version. That kamasu is Gen 2, which is also an original from Orient so with Gen 3.

    I knew of the existence of this bland since its appearance but it was not a product to consider.
    All my life my father and I wore Seiko watches. Nowadays, to get one you have to be ready to spent over $500.
    If you want something nice with 200 meters water resistant, maybe +$800 to more than a thousand dollars for a Seiko!
    I refused to even consider paying that much for a Seiko. If I had that kind of money for a watch, I would try a Swiss made.
    So, unable to continue buying Seiko, I regrettable started exploring the cheap or more affordable Orient. Slowly I started to accept it. I also knew it meant a personal financial failure. Men look at other men’s watch.
    It keeps time to perfection (I don’t look at how many seconds more or less as you do). It runs better than Seiko.
    I wish the designs were somewhat more upgraded to complete with Seiko.

    • @ShaunSeahSG
      @ShaunSeahSG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too feel that they run better than Seiko’s. I would love them to have more designs too!

    Finally received this same Kamasu about a week ago. Your video played a good part in my decision, which i don't regret. It's absolutely wonderful and versatile; not too large at all for my skinny 6,25" wrist. The sole problems are the small crown and bad-fitting end links, but these are usable nevertheless. Definitely planning another Kamasu this year!

    Orient divers are fabulous value, and the Kamasu is top of the heap. I'm loving the grey/black version (AA0810N) of the "K2" and I already ordered an AA08113R. Don't know what number mine will be.
    The smallish crown is no issue for my musician fingers. A person who needs a bigger crown should look at the ACOK line.

    Thanks for the review. I wanted a black Kamasu, but after seeing this one few days ago in the store I am not sure anymore. 😃
    It is far from being a Rolex homage, but my idea was to move away from that look as much as possible so the original Kamasu was great in that respect.

    Just received mine last week, and it looks great and keeps good time. The blue/green dial is probably the best looking, but I have too many green dial watches already, so the grey/black one was for me. You make a very good point about the difficulty in using the crown. You need small fingers and patience!

    I would rather see Orient dedicating time to upgrade the Triton which is basically the kamasu but bigger.
    I would rather see the triton with day display and bolder hands as the Mako USA. I like the bigger size of the watch and the crown.

    I remember when younger, and you may see that today mostly among Latin Americans. The faded color in a watch face, such as popular green, blue, red, etc. was mostly popular among working class people (cheap off-bland watches) It was not something upscale or of refined taste.

    Thanks for this elaborate review. A lot of microbrands are doing great models of divers. Steinhart ils one of them, the best I think. But the question is : wich one should we pick up betewen this upgraded Orient and the sweet Ocen One from Steinhart.

    • @ShaunSeahSG
      @ShaunSeahSG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Well I’ve not owned a Steinhart so take my opinion with a pinch of salt. I think there are a lot of great micro brands including Steinhart and the reviews seem to agree too, for what they offer I think they are really reasonably priced. Bang for the buck however we really can’t expect them to compete with the economies of scale that brands like Orient have.
      So between the two I’d say go for what matters more to you, whether you really prefer the design of one over the other or whether you prefer to get the best value for your money spec wise. If possible, I’d say go try on both and see which one calls out louder to you as it’s really subjective and I really don’t see a clear winner here :)

      While I don’t have in-depth experience with the SRP775, if I were choosing between the two myself it would come down entirely to personal preference.
      Specs wise they are pretty similar so it’s more about whether you prefer the iconic cushion shaped case of the Turtle or the more typical diver case of the Kamasu.
      Wrist size would also be a consideration. Although the SRP775 does wear pretty well for a 44mm watch, the short lugs make it pretty wearable. However in my opinion the bulkier look of it may not suit everyone especially those with smaller wrists.
      Personally I have long arms and skinny wrists so the Kamasu would be my pick. Hope that helps with your decision! :)

      The main difference is that this Kamasu has a sapphire glass crystal while the Kanno has a mineral glass crystal. Apart from that and the looks will be the size in which the Kanno is a larger size than the Kamasu. If you have smaller wrists then I recommend going for the Kamasu. I'm still not sold on the bezel. Maybe functionally it's an improvement on the Mako/Ray bezel, but I still hate the look of it. To me it looks cheap and blingy, and I really dislike those indentations. The two-tone color of the inserts are very nice, though. I do love those new dials, particularly the green/teal and this grey/black one. I kinda really want one, but that bezel might keep me from getting it. I could eventually swap it out, like I did with my blue Mako, but this being a lot more pricey than the Mako it may not be worth it.

      Oh and I agree that the indices on the original Kamasu are a lot nicer. Generally speaking I don't care for Sub homage watches, even though this technically isn't, it still has the same design, but it's different enough that it doesn't bother me. But they should've kept the original Kamasu indices.

      @@alfonso8492 cheap and good taste are two different things.
      A guy wearing a purple shirt with a suit and tie looks poor, it’s like he could not afford to buy a light blue or white shirt.
      The shirts may cost the same not matter the color. He just has bad taste!
      I think going classical with a pure black face and green markers would look much better and maybe cheaper to make.
      We don’t see much of White faced sport watches .

      I have a different opinion as the fading colour dial makes it look modern and striking as well compared to just one tone colour. That being said, looking cheap is definitely far off in my eyes. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

    Hey, is there a brownish shade in the center? From some angle it looks so. I'm torn between this one and the green gradient.
    And in India, the only option is to get the watch online. So I'm at the mercy of men who already has the watch for opinion abt how it looks irl
    Cheers!

      Yes it indeed does have a brownish shade when the light hits it right, this has been noted by a few other owners around me as well. The green one is lovely too though the two tone colours on the bezel are less distinguishable than on the other models if that matters to you.
      Hope it helps with you decision :) Cheers from Singapore!

    En general, el diseño japonés en relojes es poco elegante. Pero Orient es de lo más hortera.

      Nose que ves de ortera es este modelo sinceramente... Es un diseño deportivo clásico con colores neutros! Creo que tienes la percepción alterada
