So is my dad, he still has a Passport (through his workplace) and so far nothing has come out from blackberry's android division that even tempts him to switch
I still have a Blackberry Curve that works, keys area bit worn out on it though HAHA. The roller ball is also pretty worn out. $450, well like many other brands they can keep them, they only cost about $10 to make in China.
I don't think you need a glass back per se for wireless charging. Just not a metal one. Also, the different shaped top and bottom drives my pseudo-OCD crazy! I want symmetry!
Bold was the best thing, I haven't had a phone that was that good with messaging and email since then. Even the latest iPhone and Android software doesn't come close.
Is the keyboard as great as it was on the Blackberry Z10 or is it typical Android style now? Also, I love how this has 7.1 while Verizon's Galaxy S8's are still running 7.0, lol.
My Motorola Nexus 5 had a plastic back and it did wireless charging. Why do people always say you have to have a glass back for a wireless charging? Thanks!
After the priv had the mushy keyboard (apparently) and was overpriced, the KEYone had no real option for those of us who don't feel 100% comfortable with physical keyboards and wanted to consume some media regularly too, this might actually be the first blackberry that I'm considering buying
Sounds nice. I'm digin the back too. Strange they couldn't do wireless charging unless under the back material is metal,, I guess? No biggie with that battery. Damn, I wish it had front facing stereo speakers. Thanks Lisa.
Lisa - thank you for your continuing top tier reviews! For one seeking to move beyond a simple phone to a tablet platform with a larger screen ideal for a hybrid comm/Internet/Remote Terminal Access device eliminating the need to carry both a phone and a laptop, which 3G/LTE SIM enabled tablet is best in your opinion? Telephone calls can be made via Skype In/Out for ~$70/year for North America and Skype messaging used for other messaging (and WeChat in China...) while providing Internet access as well as secure remote terminal accessibility to both home and (authorized!) business computers, eliminating resource-limited processing as well as allowing greater security by only 'carrying' docs one needs, as they are always available for access resident on the 'home' computers.
Great review, Im in Canada and have had one for 3 weeks., I traded in my stupid Google $900Pixel XL This is what I like about it... - Secure and updated all the time, its a Blackberry not a Apple or Google! - Finger sensor in front! not like Pixel in back. I can once again place on table and open phone without picking it up! You can also program like the pixel to swipe down to bring notifications like the pixel tickle on the back sensor - Cheaper!! Half Price as Pixel (but its not for games! not a gaming phone!, Really people, use Ipad or PC) - Battery Live, Pixel would die after a day, and at times feel like pocket warmer really hot and always reboot. - Blackberry, quick charge and when full your good for two days! 30 min charge will take you rest of the day! - Nano Diamond "Dragon Tail" glass. I never get finger prints on this! Nothing sticks! - IP67 WaterProof. Not really needed but everyone does this now. - Fine tune OS. Nuggat It has Blackberry DTEK and lots of other common widgets and shortcuts a few screens away. - Also back and free is BB HUB and bb software! No trial. Best way to get all communications and reply back to the as your sending from another email, best notification centre - Convince button can hold three shortcuts. I have my as Calendar, Hub and Google Now - Vibration!! Pixel would be in pocket and miss emails and notifications. On the Motion you hear it well and feel the phone shake! I know it sounds crazy but I need these alerts for work! I like to hear and feel my phone! - Keyboard is probably one of the best, even the phone dude who sold it to me who has a Apple X was really surprised and said the typing experience is better than his. Its really like the Z30 keyboard., you can also download Google Gboard. - Storage, Pixel none, on the Motion - I popped in my 128 Gig 10 speed with no issues, not I can copy my song collection and movies for offline! - Creamy snappy Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS - Camera. Pixel wins but its mostly software. This camera works for me and storage space is amazing. Im sure someone can hack that new camera APK going around for better shots as it mostly software issues. - Locker is a cool feature I must say, for private photos I enjoy this phone a lot! and I have used Apple 6,7, Samsung S6 and Goggle, This really feels like a solid phone. I know I going to hear some positive and negative so bring it on! I'm BatMan! :)
Hey Batman, nice rant thats exactly how I see it too. I'm not 14 anymore so I don't need a "gaming phone". But then I've always been a blackberry fan. They just make sense too me.
Other previously Western smartphone brands now made by TCL (Alcatel, to name one), that have been of outstanding specifications and quality in other regards, and still were even after TCL took over 2~3 years ago, now come with one enormous drawback: the tiniest of cracks in the front glass panel, now leaves the entire phone inoperable. That is caused by the fact that the glass and the screen itself are either glued together, sandwiched if you will, either otherwise fit in top of each other so tightly, that any infraction of the glass ALSO will cause the (mostly invisible) conductive matrix that powers the individual pixels to break, and also will shatter some of the pixels themselves. It seems this all is the result of TCL cutting some corners, as I hardly have seen a device of any other smartphone maker just quitting be cause of a few ceacks in the front glass panel. Although I am not certain of the cheapest of inland Chinese products, I know that one other 'budget' smartphone maker, be it one of the most reputed ones, namely Huawei, makes all of their devices, even the cheapest, low-spec ones, so that they happily keep operating for the test of their lifetime even when the glass is thoroughly cracked all over. This, and the fact that many TCL devices also are fitted with an inferior quality of charging port (micro-usb) has caused me to become rather disappointed with TCLs smartphones and rather suddenly be it also rather decidedly. caused me to stop using them. This being said, I cannot with any certainty state here that any of these shortcomings will be of any influence on the quality of the phones they produce for Blackberry, even now that it essentially has become a brand of their own. It is very possible that they maintain other standards of quality for the more high-end brands they are sporting. This being said, when I look at how thin they have managed to make the above Blackberry, I have my doubts.
This and Mate 10 probably will not come to US tied with carrier. I think Apple pay them to secure iPhone dominance in US, especially after they sell less iPhone this year
Aww it was almost the perfect phone for me. It had durable hardware, a headphone jack, nice big size, it was shaped to be griped, very good software, but then they throw in low specs which is a huge deal breaker for me since I don't upgrade frequently so if it's only passible now then in about one year it will be unbearable in a year after multiple updates and apps that pad the phone out with bloatware slowing it to a crawl. Maybe I could root the phone when that time comes I guess but IDK.
How on earth is $449 a decent price for low-midrange specs, bad camera, bad design?! In 2016 $400 got you the best (or one of) the year - the OnePlus 3. $50 more gets you a nearly top-tier OnePlus 5T. How is $449 sensible in the least?!
With a BlackBerry, 1. You get BlackBerry productivity suites which are paid subscriptions on other Android phones. 2. You get monthly security updates for two years (other manufacturers like HTC, Moto, Huawei, etc don't bother with monthly security updates) 3. You get a locked boot loader that cannot be rooted. BlackBerry is one of the fewest Android phones that cannot be rooted.
Sam Song I don't know how much those subscriptions cost, but I'm sure you can get it on the Moto G5 and it would still be cheaper than the Blackberry. Basically, it seems to me that you're paying double the price for software/security alone, since there's nothing special about the hardware. Doesn't seem at all convincing to me (and probably majority of consumers). Then again, I'm pretty sure Blackberry's target audience isn't the average consumer anyways.
$449? Fuck that, get the one plus 5. Black berry is finished, they have a bunch of high priced old school guys that lack vision working in their phone departments. This phone should be 200
Maybe the phone is good, but the brand doesn't show innovation, and seems to be very quite. So why to buy the phone? also to enjoy this phone, it is probably requiring BB subscription?
As always, thanks for the awesome review Lisa! :D Always fun listening to your videos. If you ever want to do a giveaway for a Blackberry device, i would certainly LOVE the opportunity to win one. Hope you have a great day.
Maybe I will get this, I pan handle on the street for a living I average 80$ a day. But when it's slow I'm on my iPhone working not playing. I use it a lot to track down which exit ramps are congested during rush hour so I know the best places to stand. I'm thinking I'll come off as more professional if I get this. Great Review EDIT: Does this work with Square card reader? I accept credit cards and visa is why I ask
I just don't understand why anyone would buy a blackberry. Every company is better is every way, if it doesn't have a keyboard then it doesn't have a flagship feature. Samsung updates their phones with security patches for a longer amount of time than Blackberry anyway.
I can give you a lot of reason but I think you and I will waste our time arguing. Let's say you have your opinion (not buying this phone or this brand). No problem but don't waste our time explaining that Samsung is better than others because... it's not.
I'm sorry, but you really need to fix your presentation...the content is great but I would really prefer a bit of better video editing like most other tech tubers...
How on earth is $449 a decent price for low-midrange specs, bad camera, bad design?! In 2016 $400 got you the best (or one of) the year - the OnePlus 3. $50 more gets you a nearly top-tier OnePlus 5T. How is $449 sensible in the least?!

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - BlackBerry hasn't been a big name for years. In fact, it's not a big name. It's no longer a hardware company, this is an off brand company that paid BB for their logo. I'd say OnePlus is a bigger name than Blackberry nowdays. I'm also pretty sure OnePlus sells more than BB licensed products.
Race Master I've had my one plus 3 for one year now. If they've stolen my nudes, I guess some guy in China is laughing at me or something but I don't care. If they stole my social, clearly it wasn't worth shit. If they stole my credit card info, my account hasn't had any withdrawals so.... Shit specs on they blackberry. Just get a second hand iPhone 6s or 7 if you want security and name brand so bad. One plus is simply *better*
BlackBerry Passport running BB10 is one of the greatest devices of all time.
BB10 was the best, most advanced OS before Chen took over.
Another great video Lisa. One of my favorite tech reviewers
I wish BlackBerry would make high-end smartphones to compete with Apple and Samsung.
BENKYism honestly
they'd go broke so quick
They can’t afford to, no one would buy them
They will once they start selling more of these. I'm waiting for Android version of Passport
So is my dad, he still has a Passport (through his workplace) and so far nothing has come out from blackberry's android division that even tempts him to switch
Lisa why you didn't try the virtual keyboard? The predictive keyboard is so smart.
Blackberry Bold was my first "smart" phone.... some days I really do miss it :(
And I maaaay have just gone back and watched your Blackberry Bold reviews xD
Vivian Lee am
I miss you 2
"You Rock!", Lisa. Smart, no nonsense reviews. I remember the Blackberry mechanical keyboard. Loved it.
I have been watching you for years Lisa; since I was younger. Love your reviews :)
Did you used to be younger?
Lisa Gade can almost always convince me to get the phone she makes a review of most especially Blackberry.
I love the design. There is something to be said for a phone that can take a punch. Very tired of delicate black glass.
This phone is geared towards people that use BlackBerry UEM, BES and Good dynamics MDM software. Pretty much all business users.
The carbon fiber design on the back reminds me of the Motorola Droid Razr phone from several years back.
great review as always!
Do you remember the BlackBerry Storm?
I still love my private and passport se
Good day Lisa.
could you please tell me which microphone do you use to record your videos ?
Bold was the best thing, I haven't had a phone that was that good with messaging and email since then. Even the latest iPhone and Android software doesn't come close.
Looks kinda like sony. Hows call quality and loudness ? and pricing has gone to $531.81 GSM
It would have been nice if they had added dual front facing speakers !
Make yourself standout TLC.
Is the keyboard as great as it was on the Blackberry Z10 or is it typical Android style now? Also, I love how this has 7.1 while Verizon's Galaxy S8's are still running 7.0, lol.
Biggest mistake in this phone is without physical keyboard.. thats your unique blackberry!!!
Good review as always Lisa :)
My Motorola Nexus 5 had a plastic back and it did wireless charging. Why do people always say you have to have a glass back for a wireless charging? Thanks!
Love your videos Lisa!
A thank you from France for this pretty cool video !
Great Thanks for reminding me my Atlanta falcons blew a 28-3 lead @1:53 I still like your videos great job as always

Great video and looks like a great phone for $450 unlocked?! Given build quality and style, looks like a good deal to me
I love the bb technology but it didnt get any further updates for android latest os.
Kyocera dura force pro (my phone) does not have a glass back. Has wireless charging (qi).
The price doesn't seem right to me at all. Should be around 200 bucks cheaper, since it's a midrange phone specwise....
Looks like a great value. Thanks for the fair review.
Sounds nice. I'm digin the back too. Strange they couldn't do wireless charging unless under the back material is metal,, I guess? No biggie with that battery. Damn, I wish it had front facing stereo speakers. Thanks Lisa.
That massive bottom bezel looks so prehistoric.
Can you do an Eve V vs Thinkpad X1 Tablet 3rd gen comparison?
Blackberry should have started making phones like this when everybody else did , now they way behind
Skviraboy G Remember the Blackberry Storm?
BB10 was incredibly better than Android or iOS at the time. They were too slow to get market share, that’s all.
Skviraboy G yep
Thanks, just ordered one.
Awesome as usual ❤ Plano
Seems like a decent phone for the folks.
Wow 😮 they still exist?
This comment made me sick
Yes BlackBerry still exist and there making android phones
I haven't seen someone use one in ag least 4 years
Keep calm just a joke lol
Lisa - thank you for your continuing top tier reviews!

The instant way to make a phone a no go for me in 2018 is to say it runs Nougat instead of Oreo.
this women is brilliant .
I just want them to remake the priv. Blackberry will always be for me. Strictly business
plastic backs are just fine for conductive charging!!!
We just need blackberry priv 2.0 !
Battery 🔋 = amaaaazing !!!!

Still not sensible when the moto g5 plus costs half the price and has the same processor and RAM.
youfermont Yep sadly people would actually go for a $1000 dollar phone. One trend I am not planning on following.

Try to hack it, then ull get why. Samsung Knox didnt meet the standards that the government needs for international work.
What hack? He doesn't write english well...
Well one nice perk is a Blackberry doesnt blow up like a Samsung smartphone or Samsung washing machine.
The only "blowing up" they did in last year is in sales for the note 8 & other products.
I can give you a lot of reason but I think you and I will waste our time arguing. Let's say you have your opinion (not buying this phone or this brand). No problem but don't waste our time explaining that Samsung is better than others because... it's not.
