      +Chris Devine I used it and it felt very well made- the screen feels lovely, and the back is nice. And something hypnotic about pulling the keyboard down!

    I wish Lisa would do more demoing like she used to in the past. I would love to see how games and apps work on this device. It would also be nice to see some of the BlackBerry only stuff such as the BlackBerry hub.

    I'm actually faster with the physical keyboard now because I make mistakes less often. Also, once you get used to the keyboard, you'll be glad it's there because it's actually very useful.

    Hi Lisa, love your videos and your honest opinions. Thanks for another great one! As a new user to Android (coming from iOS), do you think this would be a good bet? I do miss my physical keyboards!

    • @StevenWoodall
      @StevenWoodall 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Android can be a complicated OS when compared to iOS but it's the complications that make the OS so flexible. I personally prefer the BB10 OS experience but if you want apps and Android then you can't go wrong with the Priv.
      Everyone has iPhone and Samsung devices. The BlackBerry Priv is what everyone would like but didn't know they could have since it's hidden at the back of AT&T stores.
      If you can pay in full then you should buy the phone from shop.blackberry.com.

  • @JulianFinn
    @JulianFinn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Speaking to the question of "will people use the hardware keyboard?" I've had my Priv since launch day in Canada and I've only used the touch keyboard about a dozen times.
    Once you get used to the physical keyboard again it's brilliant.

    I had been waiting for this review by Lisa and I'm happy with what she had to say! I'm sorry touchscreen smartphones , but touchscreens keyboards are not for me. I've been missing my physical keyboard ever since I had to switch phone companies and say goodbye to my Blackberry curve in 2012. I'm hoping Blackberry will make more Android phones in the coming year.

    I have been using it since a week now, and I'm in love with it. keyboard has worked nice with my fat fingers ... everything else has great hw or sw. Camera is not all rounder but worked many times better than iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6. I have never experienced it being uncomfortably warm.

      @MindControl3 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It will be coming to Verizon. Lisa mentions it in the video as well, but for your personal information www.verizonwireless.com/search/vzwSearch?Ntt=priv&nav=Global&gTab=

    • @NavalNunPuncher
      @NavalNunPuncher 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mind that link shows the search had no results. My info comes straight from blackberry website. plus this lady didn't even know it's AMOLED.

    • @MindControl3
      @MindControl3 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's true that she got that wrong, but Verizon has announced that they will be carrying the Priv some time soon. No release date yet. The blackberry site only sells an unlocked phone and verizon doesn't handle unlocked phones

    • @jauffins
      @jauffins 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NavalNunPuncher I can't speak to why Lisa didn't mention the AMOLED display, but I will say that "this lady" has some of the most comprehensive reviews you're going to find for every single product she reviews. I've been watching her for several years and have never otherwise noted a mistake. But by all means, tear her to shreds.

    It's weird that you didn't say almost anything about one of the most important feature for BB users - the HUB. It's one of the selling point of this device... :(

    • @HNedel
      @HNedel 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alexey Salo yeah, there was some lame excuse about private information... but that could have been easily solved with one fake/spoof email or twitter account, just to show the functionality. On the other hand, Lisa also said she has a "love-hate" relationship with the hub, because it gets overcrowded when you add a few accounts. Which means she either has no idea how to use the hub, or can't be bothered to set it up. EVERY account added to the hub has three options for visibility: 1. hub only 2. Separate account only 3. Both... which other platform offers a notification center that has solved this better?

  • @trahim2

    my friend purchased this phone. It screams quality. Way better than any other android phone I've used. I'm glad they didn't rush to release this phone.

  • @FawadBilgrami
    @FawadBilgrami 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was waiting for your review. Its very honest. The physical keyboard I believe you need to develop muscle memory for and takes a little longer to do so.
    My biggest worry is the battery life, other than that, I am really sold on this device. The Blackberry Hub is what you have to tweak and learn a little. If its anything close to what Blackberry 10 offers, then Hub is one of the most useful feature of this device.
    In the end, there aren't many things Android or iOS excites us that much. I think having Blackberry in that space is really good and offers more to the table.
    ps: The display is AMOLED I believe ;)

    • @leetronix
      @leetronix 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Fawad Bilgrami To be honest Lisa did not go into any real depth of anything on this phone it was very surface orientated. The hub was dismissed, the keyboard was dismissed, the speakers were not mentioned on how good they, the fact that the call quality is the best their is on a phone etc etc I could go on. The funny thing is I cannot stand Android (personal choice) but BBY make really high end pieces of kit and are really well designed and focus on communications which ultimately is what its about. Just my two pennies worth.

    • @FawadBilgrami
      @FawadBilgrami 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lee Hayes thanks for the pennies.. I am hoping this gets released here in Australia and also discounted a little.
      Lisa though does good job usually.

      Only downside to this priv is the less than perfect keyboard and the weak front facing camera. The other issues(sometimes lags and camera issues) could be fixed with a software update. I have the Priv but I'm selling it in a few days cause it's AT&T which may not get quick software updates as the one direct from the Blackberry site

    Great review!
    I like the physical keyboard- you can see the whole screen when editing with it: more screen space than my nexus 6 when a third of the screen is taken up by the onscreen keyboard.
    And the keyboard is very handy for scrolling up and down web pages for example. And you can programme the physical keys to control what happens if you do a long press. (eg longpress T to create a task, longpress E to add an event, F to send a message to someone specific...). The keyboard is also handy for moving the cursor around the screen. It's also handy for typing. I've got large fingers but found it very good for typing on.
    I loved the oval shaped curve of the edges- more comfortable than the D shaped edge of the s6 Edge+.
    But I found audio on earphones a bit too sharp, and worse (for me) the earphone socket is on the far right on the bottom. I found it hard to type while I had a wired headset attached.
    (The button in the middle of the volume keys was handy for pausing and playing audio).

    • @leetronix
      @leetronix 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Andrew Manning I agree with you about the Audio phone jack, I never understand why some makers put them at the bottom and no different here with BBY, very weird and cumbersome.

    • @andrewm571
      @andrewm571 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lee Hayes I wouldn't have minded quite so much if the phone jack was in the middle of the bottom or a bit off centre. With phablets I often curl my little finger around then and it makes the device easier to hold firmly in my hand. And being on the bottom, when I out the phone top down into my pocket the cable doesn't get tangled so much. I can understand with the Priv having it at the bottom because of the moving slider. The problem for me (and why I returned it) was that it was so close to the edge that it got in the way too much when I had the keyboard down.
      (Having said that, I've got a Nexus 6 with the audio jack at the top and its fine there, though bottom left, so I could curl my little finger around the cable would be brilliant!).

    • @leetronix
      @leetronix 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really do get that and it is things like what you described as a reason not to use the phone or send it back. I have the same issue and it bugs me to. If they could not of put it on the top maybe the side could of possibly been a better solution, I don't know but I do get where you are coming from.

    • @andrewm571
      @andrewm571 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I totally agree. Some people only see the Priv keyboard as a physical way of typing, it's a lot more.
      I found creating content so much easier on the Priv compared to my 6" screen Nexus 6.

    this is a phone that will go from good to excellent with future updates. its blackberrys first shot at android and it'll only get better from here. if anyone has ever used bb10 from the beginning to what it is now knows full well just how much the OS has truly improved and i expect the exact same with coming software updates.
    Thus far, everyone that I've talked to who owns this phone have done nothing but praise it.

  • @leetronix

    Sounds to me Lisa you did not care for BBY before you reviewed it. You say its a Mish Mash yet that is what Android is as a generic 'free' OS. Sadly all Droids no matter how much power you give them are not smooth and blotchy because of the nature of the OS, if this was the BBY 10 OS and more people would see if they used it how much more slick and ultra smooth it is, definitely on par with an Apple. Regarding battery life, the flagships Samsungs are all rubbish on battery life so this is fine. The keyboard option is exactly that its an option you can use it or decide not to. It also is a track pad which is ideal for editing etc and browsing. You thought the Passport was an awkward size and now you wished it had the Passport keyboard, I cannot help but see that you are not a fan - fair enough but clever use of subtle negatives is not so clever! Maybe you are trying to bash out to many quick reviews these days as the quality of your reviews seems to have dipped considerably. I am sure my comments will upset some but that is my opinion.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of the battery reviews say if you get three hours you are lucky and you could be right that it is not BB's fault, but the carriers, possibly due to always on push. In the UK battery life is a bit better than US reviews, so there are issues with regard to battery life. Hopefully an update will fix it for those that suck. The negatives are that for the most expensive Android phone on the market it is not metal as the back feels spongy and cheap. The front facing camera is a big mistake. Not coming out with Marshmallow despite HTC being able to do so. The speaker grill is a dust magnate which is a design flaw. Why not the best CPU for a premium device? Where is the fingerprint reader? This could have been a comeback for BB but they have have made many sacrifices in the wrong places, shame.

      +PDXMatthew That is true people do have different experiences I would never disagree with that, but in this case the keyboard is simply not heavy, when it was first show everyone assumed it was top heavy and then it turned out to be not the case. When you hold the phone you do not lose weight control due to the lightness the keyboard. That said, I am not sure BBY designed it for deliberate one handed use, personally I would not use to for that but I just felt that when you life the phone its not top heavy at all for me any many others anyway hehe.

      +peter stringer Yeah, I tried this out for a day (the camera killed it for me, and the speakers didn't help) - it's way too top-heavy to be used with one hand, at least the keyboard. The phone you can use with one hand.

The main reason why I think MTR is the best is because she does exceptional reviews of the products I actually care about.

      +Arch Yeomans How so? Internationally they outsell everyone. Just because you are narrow-minded for the U.S. market, you judge a multi-billion dollar company? Please show me your billions... oh wait, you're broke.

      +JULIUS K I'm an android user and I'm seriously considering this as my next phone. My last two phones (Galaxy S and Note II) have each had updates released at the end of their perceived lifespan that has outright broken features, and Samsung never releases updates to fix it. It reeks of planned obsolescence, and I doubt VERY much I'll be going with Samsung for my next phone. I also hate touchscreen keyboards, so I don't have a ton of options for a physical KB

    The phone only gets warm during the initial setup. The battery life is excellent once all the updates are completed.

    I easily get 24 hours with mixed use.

    I think the problem is the price, with the flaws it has, people are better off investing in other model of phones, which at that time there are cheaper and better options.

    Blackberry bold 9900 has the best keyboard ever made in a blackberry device...and maybe the passport silver edition

  • @GamesTSF
    @GamesTSF 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree, it almost definitely doesn't seem like something that's going to make Blackberry a huge name again... its only hugely unique feature is the keyboard, which at this point probably isn't a terribly compelling feature to the vast majority of folks, and while a few people are probably happy to have the Blackberry security features and apps, that again is probably not a significant amount of people.
    That said, I think it may "save" Blackberry as far as keeping them afloat for the time being, so that perhaps they'll be able to develop something that WILL compel a larger group of customers away from the major brands in the future. I say that because while it doesn't offer much that's super compelling, it IS a nice looking phone, with a pretty nice build and the current standard high-end specs... it doesn't really leave anything out that would make it a bad purchase. Because of that, I think enough people might be intrigued enough - be it by simply the build, by the keyboard, etc. - to give it a shot to where it will sell well enough to let RIM develop a successor.

    don't ever compare this phone to the Dell phone again.. thanks.
    the keyboard size is great, I am a huge guy with big hands.
    phone camera is great.. six months ago it would have been the best phone on market, and people were Gaga over those phones.
    expandable storage=awesome
    phone quality hardware great.
    it runs android very well
    price is worth it.. can't buy a physical keyboard attachment some other brands offer for the price.

    It's a shame that you had to make the BlackBerry Hub sound bad, or a place that EVERYTHING is at in just one spot. That is not entirely true at all. You where in the HUB tab, to the left you can see each individual account separately, be it e-mails to txt messages to phone calls, and you can see the red dot on each individual account if there is a new unread message. I hope you will make another short video correcting yourself and after you see what I am talking about, show in the video about the brilliant and efficient design of what the HUB is all about. So many people see your videos, and I hate to see all these viewers have the wrong wrong idea of what the HUB is about, and not how you expressed it in this video.

    Poor BlackBerry. They've come way too late to the party. All their devotees have moved on to iPhones or Androids. Had they given this a shot a few years ago, they might still be in the game. It's probably not a bad phone but given the competition these days, this puppy just doesn't cut it.

    This phone had a lot of potential to make more of a splash at launch but it dropped the ball. Overpriced, performance was not consistent, should have launched with marshmallow with an upgrade to nougat, overhearing, the list just goes on and on.
