    • @ImTash
      @ImTash 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

       @S. Ngannou her life doesn't look very luxurious from where i'm sitting. She's an unpaid cleaner and nanny. Sure she lives in a big house with a lot of land and no noisy neighbours. But I have quite a few friends who live in ancestral homes like this and it's not freedom or luxury I can tell you that for nothing. It's spiders and moths and mice and a never ending battle against damp and woodworm. They require a HUGE amount of upkeep inside and out, and very often people who live in these things are asset rich and cash poor so have to do all the work themselves because they can't afford to hire people to do it for them unless they're fortunate enough to be business savvy and cash rich which many of them aren't. It's a gilded millstone round the neck more than anything else. Maybe she knew what she was marrying into with him as a person, but equally maybe she didn't expect to be saddled with a house like that - we don't know their backstory. Could be that the house was meant to go to someone else in the family but they didn't want it.

    • @GrinkyGirl
      @GrinkyGirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@corielake828 I agree, it's near impossible to keep up with everything in a house this large, however, living next to an old manor house in Germany, I know there is a way around it.
      What the family living there does is to live in some of the rooms while everything else was closed up. All the furniture was covered with dust sheets to protect them as were the pictures and chandeliers and all the antique books are also either covered with sheets or are behind glass. They are also very diligent about heating, keeping all the rooms reasonably warm to get rid of any moisture during the cold season and also airing everything regularly - oh and using dehumidifiers where necessary. Not even the old servent's quarters are left out from that. This way, they can hire a cleaning company once a year to help dust out the disused rooms, which with the measures they took doesn't take more than two days and doesn't cost them the world, while the inhabited rooms are easily handled by them. Sorted!
      Now, they also use firewood for the heating, but they have a decidedly more efficient way to prepare the wood, using machines instead of doing it the old fashioned way. With the help of wheelbarrows and a dumb waiter that has been installed in the 19th century, firing the ovens isn't a full-time job either. Then again, ovens are more efficient than fireplaces and the old-fashioned ones they have (original to the place) radiate heat for a long time so that when it isn't too cold, they only need to fire them twice or thrice a week.
      That said, the park is fairly overgrown and neglected the further away one gets from the house, but around the house itself, the beds are kept pristine by them. I guess that's fair enough, though.
      Just the disused outbuildings need some urgent TLC, but as it is, they are currently restored and then will be rented out to a farmer so they won't fall into disrepair again but will be in use, which is always better for a building. They also think about turning the old staff houses into flats.
      I guess, some things just come down to common sense, pragmatism and finding more efficient ways to do things to keep the upper hand.

      He is GREATLY devaluing his own estate by not taking care of such valuable items. If he ever tries to sell, he deserves to make crap for money with the way he's treated that house and the stuff.

      @@kamilareeder1632 Even if he doesn't sell, he should think of what a mess his children will be stuck with if he doesn't take any action asap. He once inherited a beautiful estate, his children will inherit a ruin that, in turn, if they ever decide to restore it, will likely ruin them. And the longer the place gets neglected, the worse it'll get. Besides, I don't get how this neglect fits in with his family pride.
      This or the other way, I completely get you. I'm not a historian, but always had an interest in history. I think there is so much to learn from our ancestors. And I really don't get, why someone would want to replace a well-made antique with IKEA or have it go to waste by not caring for it properly. Every time I see a discarded antique on the curb for rubbish collection (which I can't just take with me to save it, because legislation would have it, that it is considered stealing) my heart bleeds. At least those pieces should be given to charity (f.e.) so someone else can enjoy them. Someone who appreciates them. Personally, I am very proud of the things that have been handed down to me: furniture, linens, porcelain, tools, kitchen utensils. And funnily enough, I am also sewing (hand and machine), recreating (or attempting to...) historical clothing that I actually wear in daily life. I'm gradually getting better, but since I, as said, intend to wear what I make, I usually stick to the more unassuming things anyway (not that they are necessarily easy to make...). I was watching this video, while fiddling around with self-stuffed cloth buttons for a late mediaeval kirtle.
      P.S.: I previously commented under this video as Nicky R. but my scatter-brained self since forgot the password after my computer crashed...

      @@axab4333 People are judgmental because the attitude he displays is rude. The upkeep of a mansion is indeed lots of work and is expensive, however, an actually rational man cannot possibly expect from his wife to take care of the cleaning of a 50 room mansion. You can’t say your wife doesn’t need a break from cleaning a massive mansion when it’s impossible to keep up with a mansion of that size as a single person. He is condescending, especially at the beginning, and thinks he’s above cleaning and doing housework as a “man”, however, he’s been living in dirt. It’s a shame because this mansion is gorgeous. He should realise, as the one who has inherited a place like this, that he really needs to employ professionals to tend to the place, if not daily, then definitely a few times a month. Not just one or two people, proper upkeep for this mansion requires a team of professional cleaners.
      He might have a better attitude and not actually be a bad person in real life. It’s a fact that certain things and some people’s odd traits sometimes get exaggerated for the sake of entertaining television, however, his attitude in the show and the way he speaks shows selfishness and pompousness. I hope he’s not like that in real life, and he’s just messing around, as per the production’s instructions.

They don't help clean, some times I wish I left when I had the first one. You know what and I'm tired of him going hunting and bringing it home like why when you could already buy it at the store. I understand it saves money but at the same time it takes even more time cleaning its insides and then having to cook it when I rather just put it inside the fridge and take it out when I'm going to cook. yeah cause letting a bunch of homeless people who have mental illnesses or drug addiction into your home sounds like a great idea ...have you ever seen how those people live ? why don't you go look up videos of skid row in California and see the trash and needles and camp set ups in front of peoples businesses. I agree that there should be better housing options for the homeless , but to allow them in your own home just sounds like a recipe for disaster. America has a ton of abandoned malls , that would be cool to renovate and make into a homeless shelter , however, you need people t work there and make sure there's order in those places .

    • @foggylegg6362
      @foggylegg6362 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Have you ever brought a random homeless person into your home to live? Have you lived with any addicted individuals or untreated mentally ill? Videos are one thing. Dealing and daily living among the people is another. Even people who have homes are not all good people to live with. I have a condition myself for which i am treated. Unfortunately, the system is not helping the truly needy families and children who are homeless with resources, good quality mental health options for those willing to be helped ( good quality is hard for anyone to get) and enough low income housing. But it is more complex to take on a project like this.. The majority of homeless are not just individuals or families who are down right now. Although numbers are growing. Many can't live indoors anymore and refuse to. If a volatile or untreated Seriously mentally ill or drug addicted person has a child, how to be sure the child gets what it needs and is safe if the monies received go to alcohol and drugs? The child would have to be removed. The anger at that! Because people will only hear part of the story in media.
      Even homed people have sold or pimped their children because of drugs or untreated mental illness. If you choose to open apts for so many people , you have to take on some responsibility for their welfare.
      Just as a landlord does. Who would be chosen to live there?
      Who would buy the home, ,manage, and keep all needed insurance on it. Its a very old building which needs repair for safety. Even people who aren't homeless destroy apts. It would have to be refitted with appropriate kitchen and facilities for a large number of people, so fires don't get started in rooms. Updated bath facilities. A dining area. Have to hire staff possibly reliable tenants fo to keep the facilities clean and repaired. Again Security to keep majority and children safe from the strangers. It couldn't keep large families in one room. These are just part of the difficulties. Most think its so easy to do. Well, people and families have needs and are complicated.
