I have three Maverick 88's. They all have specific jobs, get shot often and have always been reliable. One full size for hunting, one short for home defense, and an additional short used for at our wildlife damage control company.
I have 1 too i like it. I wish the action was as smooth as a mossberg 500 but it still works when i rack my mossberg 500 and then rack my maverick i can tell the diffrence the mossberg 500 is alot smoother but i cant complain about my maverick. I did have to replace a cartridge stop fresh out the box it wouldnt cycle but mossberg sent me one for free so i couldnt complain
@@EliteNirvana Their both good guns. I carried a remington 870 as a sheriffs deputy for 36 years. The remington was a good one too. When I retired guys in my unit gave me a remington 870 supermag. I go to a lot of turkey shoots. So I use some of them there. Its hard to beat a pump shotgun for reliability
I just bought my first Maverick 88 with a 28-inch hunting barrel. I'm considering buying another with a 20-inch barrel. I've been looking everywhere online to find a 20-inch barrel with an 8 shot magazine tube so I don't have to buy 2 whole shotguns, but I can't find anyone with those in stock.... Everyone is sold out.
I am thinking I should just buy a Mav and just keep it for value sake. I hate shooting boom sticks. But I still have a lot of xx buckshot at home, and I sold my last shotgun.
@@mixup98 hey there father and son! How's everything going out there in nevada? I'm still your number one fan buddy. Love the part in the video where your cowboy hat was up there on camera and it almost look like your boy was going to shoot it LOL that was funny
Mav 88's are about $225 around here and are still one of the best firearms bargains around. Love mine and shoot it regularly. Great shotguns. Always brightens my day to see a great new vid from Mix and son!
I thoroughly enjoy shooting my 18" 590A1 but it's good to know that cheaper but most importantly, reliable, options are available. I often recommend the Maverick 88 to those who are interested in getting their first shotgun but are on a budget. Your videos on this and the 500 shot torture test that TFB TV did are excellent testaments to the value of this firearm. Thanks!
@Unintentional Failure The location of the safety is probably the only distinction most would be able to discern if holding each in the dark. The 500 series have the tang mounted safety and the 88 has a cross bolt safety. Other than that, at a glance, yeah, they're pretty darn similar looking.
Never get tired of the 88 videos. Love mine for a year now based on your advice. And that "thunder in the valley" I could listen to all day long. Previously you told me about the mics you use...................love em, don't change them out. All the best to the Mixup family.
Yeap, I'm still using the same Canon camera and the same Audio-Technica microphone to record that "thunder in the valley" audio. All the best to you too, John. 👍😎
Haven't shot my Maverick 88 in a while. Your video has encouraged me to take it out this weekend and have some fun 😁. I have the same model and it's an incredible bargain.
I look at a Maverick 88 like an Old reliable dog... She'll even sit there and be a good girl in the safe and everything.... But you got to take her out for a walk every once in a while buddy!! 😜 Have fun this weekend man take her out n put some rounds through her.... That's what shotguns want to do....
I have wanted one forever. I have had the 500 and an 870, but i'm the oddball that prefers the Remington safety but I also prefer the Mossberg pump and receiver. The Maverick 88 is exactly that.
After watching your original video on the Mav 88 I went out and bought one. I paid a little less than ,$200 six years ago. I couldn't tell you how many rounds I have fired through this thing and have never had a problem with it. It eats everything I feed it from target loads to slugs. My grandson turns 18 next month and I will getting one for him. He and I have spent hours together shooting mine and he loves it. So, he is getting his own.
Good morning Rick. Yes, indeed the Mav 88 is one of the most reliable and inexpensive pump shotguns on the market. Everyone should own at least one of them. The good news is that you can still get a Mav 88 for around $250, which is still an excellent deal. Next month please tell your grandson that I said "happy birthday".
This man convinced me to buy this firearm and I dont regret it. Reason I trust this man's reviews is because he wont lie about a firearm being good or bad, just good honest shooting. Thank you mixup for helping me grow my small collection!
When we hear all these people talk about great deals that are only around $200 pump shotguns, I always just point to the Mossberg Maverick 88. Still great and still close to $200. Why bother with anything else in that price range? Love the bloopers fella's. Stay safe.
Turkish and Chinese guns have spotty reliability records and are made in countries that hate the USA. The Maverick is made in the USA and will run forever.
You guys always have good content but you put the fun in your videos too. Look forward to each video. Really appreciate how much time & money you put into the videos. Thanks. 👍 👍 🇺🇸
Hello Bill. We have fun making these videos together and yes, it does take a lot of time and money but the time my son and I spend together is priceless.
I have the security model with the 18.5 inch barrel. First and only shotgun I ever bought. You can't beat it for the price. I've probably had it for about 6 or 7 years with no issues.
That's a nice gun. High quality for not a lot of money and effective. $250.00 for a name brand shotgun now is a great deal. I'd definitely put a light and a spare shell holder on it, that's just me.
Nice to see people who take care of their guns like I do. After 6.5 years, that shotgun still looks like new. Others aren't quite so meticulous. Nice job!
Have had my similarly all black 88 security model for about 2 years and love it. Just literally ordered another one yesterday identical to mine as a gift for my son's birthday coming next week. What kills me is that the price of this gun *HAS NOT CHANGED* since I purchased mine nearly 2 years ago. I paid $230 when I found mine and discovered it was still $230 when I ordered another yesterday afternoon.....
I love mine. Set it up with magpul furniture, a light, and saddle. The 18.5 inch barrel with the short setup on the SGA stock makes for a great home defense package!
I remember watching you review this shotgun when I was still in high school, now I’m 21 I can legally buy this and you are part of the reason why I love this shotgun so much, thanks for the very informative videos ❤❤
Great video, as always Mixup you and your son always have fun making these. I have a Maverick 88 on layaway at one of the local pawn stores where I live, under $200 before tax.
Yep, still the best bang for your buck shotgun. I bought mine for $189 brand new in 2017 (should have bought two). have not had any issues with it and although it isn't my go to for home defense, I would definitely bet my life on it if need be.
I'm probably one of many hits on your first Mossberg 88 video lol I got one only thing I did to it was install a ATI Top folder with pistol grip I just keep it for HD , I'm actually taking it out next week with me when I sight in my Ruger Ranch for the upcoming deer season , great video by the way shout out from 🇨🇦 glad you guys are well 😎

Believe it or not my 60-some YO sister called me a while ago and asked if I wanted her Mossberg 12ga. Persuader. She had asked her son to pick out a home-defense shotgun for her and that’s what he bought her. She had never fired it and said that she’d probably never use it since she had a .38Spl. revolver and didn’t’ want it to just sit around if I could use it. Of course I said yes and collected it ASAP. After bruising up my hand with the pistol-grip only, I bought a top-folding stock, side-mount ammo carrier, scabbard, and an assortment of slugs, buckshot, birdshot, minis and a Texas mini-adapter, etc. I absolutely love this bugout/survival/all-purpose shotgun and so does everyone else that shoots it. Mossberg pumps are great guns ! Another great video. BTW, Do you want to sell that fine truck ?
Hello Daniel. It is good to hear from you and I hope you are doing well and healing fast. Thanks for the nice compliment and tell Christine I said "hi".

Hello Michael. I want to thank you for recently subscribing to our channel. We always try to have fun when we make our videos. Things have been slow due to the weather, but we are hoping to get back to making our videos within the next three or four weeks.
We've had a Maverick 88 in our Family for decades; it was my cousin's: just the other day I picked one up of my very own, it's now my bedside gun. I have a S&W M&P 15, but man I love shotguns! I think that Maverick 88 is my new favorite toy; dosen't take much to please me: ha! Great video, big ups to you and your son!
Yup. Another great video from the boys. It’s because of this gun, I started watching your videos. I purchased a Maverick 88 during Canadian Thanksgiving 2020 and I was looking for some expert reviews. I definitely got my moneys worth with the gun and the videos. Thank you.

Once again Mixup98 I loved this video. I don't get to shoot my shotguns much so I watch your videos to get my shotgun fix! Lol. Thank you and your son for the awesome videos. 👌
I bought mine strictly to carry with me everywhere I go within the area that I'm legally allowed to carry a long gun loaded like this in my vehicle so I didn't buy it to compete or go to combat with it's just a self-defense shotgun and I love the weight of it for a $200 gun it is absolutely phenomenal how it feels how well it feels built I mean it just seems like a very nice overall shotgun so I'm happy with my purchase and thank you guys for the video it was awesome
I have reviewed a lot of pump shotguns that cost $200-250 and the Maverick 88 is absolutely the best one that someone can buy in that price range. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on our video.
The Mossbergs surely deserve their good reputation. I am a model 870 devotee, but have enjoyed the opportunities to shoot the Mossberg 590. Excellent video. The 3” magnum generated a good kick, but it also delivered a lot of energy.
I’m sitting on my couch with that exact Maverick right next to me and this video pops up! Very cool! I have that one, and the shorter barreled version. They are terrific! Best bang for your buck!
Haha love the little bloopers :) I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but Mossberg should pay you Gentlemen for advertising this Maverick 88! I guarantee sales went up on that thing as a direct result of these videos! I bought my son one of these probably 11 years ago he's put many rounds through it and to date is his favorite goto shotgun. Dang good fun video to watch Brother! Thanks for always cranking out quality content! Thumbs up ~John
Hello Adam. Although I have a few high-end firearms, I love buying and reviewing "budget" firearms as there seems to be a lot of interest in them. Your feedback is appreciated, and I have more budget firearm videos planned for the future.
I love my Maverick 88 home defense shotgun.. only added a few additions to it..weapon light ... Stretch on shell holder. On the stock.. hi VIs clip on glow tiube front sight.. simply clips on the barrel and the locks onto the front brass bead .. easy to install.. limbsaver rubber butt pad.... A sling and that's it
These bad boys are still $199 at rural king. Honestly don’t know how they sell for that in 2022 but I ain’t complaining. I bought a 20ga hunting length one last year as a truck/farm gun and I have beat the ever loving piss out of it and still going strong. I cannot honestly say I’d recommend a more expensive shotgun to anyone.
...parts made in Mexico; then assembled in Eagle Pass, Texas....Ima Texan....been toying with getting one because of the Texas factor...and as you said.....inexpensive.....
I got a Maverick 88 w/ 16 inch barrel I got for free from an old buddy I have no contact with anymore. I added a heat shield and a pistol grip w/ a side saddle. I’ve had it for several years and only shot it very rarely and it’s definitely one of my favorite shotguns to shoot from time to time. If I ever have a son one day I’m definitely gonna hand it down to him and it’s gonna be the first gun I teach him how to use
Your shotgun vids are my favorites. If you had shot that bucket lid before it hit the ground, you would have attained another level of legendary. There's always next time 👍
I really enjoy your videos. The bond of father and son is so nice to watch. My father died when i was 8yrs old. I wish he would be still here with us. We would enjoy shooting together like you two. Thanks for the video and great honest review on Maverick 88. 👍
I bought my Maverick 88 right after I saw your video. I could not find the longer one like yours, so had to go with the home defense model with the shorter barrel.
As always a great review, I bought one of these A few years ago on your and others recommendations and am not sorry at all,I think one of the best things I ever bought in my life,Thank You and keep up the good work.
Honestly 20 guage is still capable of self defence but I would get use to 12 guage just in case you have to use that in an emergency, most shotguns will be chambered in 12
Picked one up yesterday. $272.00 out the door here in Gavin's playground. 20" Security model with sling mounts, even. So far, I really like this little overachiever.
Two things I want to mention: 1: The thunder-like echo throughout the area is nothing short of satisfying to the ears. 2: Using the old-school nostalgic looking Diet Shasta 2L is just a superior addition to the video 😂🤜🏼🤛🏼
4:28 ran these in my maverick two days ago in order to test accuracy in slug loads for my gun. This was the most accurate, but it was the most recoiling round by far. It is just a ounce of NOPE going so fast. It definitely feels in the shoulder. The second most accurate slug was the "Slugger" by Remington. Much less recoiling, yet quite accurate as well. Also affordable. I use that slug round for slugs in this gun.
I called Mossberg a couple times while researching this gun . They assured me both times that it was made in the USA. Hard to believe at this price point.
It is made in Maverick county TX. Model was designed in 1988 hence the "Maverick 88" name. Some small parts are manufactured in Mexico so cost can ne kept low... but 99% of the shotgun is done in USA

Haha love the little bloopers :)
I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but Mossberg should pay you Gentlemen for advertising this Maverick 88!
I appreciate you doing reviews on guns in the ”budget” range. Great job as always!
One of my favorite channels and shotgun as well. Thanks for sharing.👍
Legendary! Mine is from 2001 $129 @walmart.
They didn’t have a Mossberg 500 that day so I got this. Best shotgun to me I ever owned.
Might not wanna admit to having a 16" barreled shotgun on a public forum like TH-cam...
It's a bout time.love the 88 an 590s!!!grate job!!!
That first video made me buy one. I've really enjoyed my 88.
A shotgun has so much devastating impact on its targets. Shot guns are my favorite guns. I was 19 and a shotgun was my very first gun.
Your shotgun vids are my favorites.
If you had shot that bucket lid before it hit the ground, you would have attained another level of legendary.
There's always next time 👍
Excellent review as usual! I purchased my Maverick 88 for $189 + tax. Best money I ever spent!
I really enjoy your videos. The bond of father and son is so nice to watch. My father died when i was 8yrs old. I wish he would be still here with us. We would enjoy shooting together like you two. Thanks for the video and great honest review on Maverick 88. 👍
I bought my Mossberg 500 in October 1996 and have shot just about every game animal with it. Still have it. Love it.
I absolutely love mine. So glad to see a part IV in this series.
Awesome Vid! You Two are handy with that 88. I've had mine for about the same amount of time. That heat shield looks nice. Thank you guys for sharing.
I have an 88 and love it. I use it mostly for clays and do fairly well it.
I have two Maverick 88, same as yours. Great gun for fhe money. Always enjoy watching your Maverick 88 videos.
Yes indeed, we love making videos with this Maverick and I'm always looking for any excuse to break it out and start blasting away.
The pump action shotgun is the ultimate SHTF apocalyptic gun
Lots of luv for my Mossberg Maverick. The common man's gun for everything!
You guys are the best! Thanks
Another great video! I have 2 Mossbergs. No man can ever go wrong with a reliable shotgun. My wife doesn’t like shotguns. She likes my Ruger SP 101.
I bought my Maverick 88 right after I saw your video. I could not find the longer one like yours, so had to go with the home defense model with the shorter barrel.
I love my Maverick 88 20 gauge.
Pump shotguns never get old. :)
Great videos usual I love it when you and your boy team up
Agreed. I have one with a red dot and use it for deer hunting where it is shotgun only.
Awesome video 👍 like always fellas Maverick 88 a taken care of business kinda shotgun definitely a winner 🏆🤘🔥
i bought a winchester xps defender for 200 on black friday. another great pump
Nice.
As always a great review, I bought one of these A few years ago on your and others recommendations and am not sorry at all,I think one of the best things I ever bought in my life,Thank You and keep up the good work.
Can`t go wrong with that. I prefer a 20Ga. but 12 is the standard.
Good choice....you won't be disappointed!
Good job
I have Winchester 1300 but I didn't shoot yet.
It was my first shotgun in the USA :)
The Winchester 1300 is a very good shotgun and you will enjoy shooting it.
I love the Maverick 88 and I got mine 3 years ago and I gave it to my son and he loves it.
Two things I want to mention:
1: The thunder-like echo throughout the area is nothing short of satisfying to the ears.
Excellent video gentleman 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤠🤠....if I didn't have a 590 already.....I would have the 88 always great to see you guys thanks again 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Y’all’s content just keeps getting better and better 👍!
Awesome....thank you Adam!
The Maverick 88 is actually assembled in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Fun times Mixup, thanks for the effort you and Son put into these. God bless, Rob
Thank you my friend and God Bless you and yours.
Hey bro, sometimes it's just not about the guns; but about watching Father and son having fun together. You guys are a joy to watch, and of course your honest opinion on products. Keep cool bro.👍
My son and I always have a blast making these videos and we are glad that you enjoy watching them. Thank you.
@@mixup98 absolutely! As a kid I used to play catch with Dad I loved it and remember those great memories. It’s fabulous you are so close and do things together. Cherish the moments✌🏻And the 88 is Great!!
Father/son 2A videos just warm my heart.
Looks like a fun afternoon of shootin down there in southern Nevada!
never gets old I own two of them love maverick 88s security models 🤠👍👍💯🔥
Picked up 2 in March... Both "security" models, one black, one tan. He made me a good on the pair. 450 OTD.
I needed another shotgun like I need a while in my head, but the deal was too good. They really are great guns... Especially for the money!
...and I much prefer the Maverick safety to the tang version on the 500/590.
