- My son and I review the OPsol Mini Clip adapter along with mini shotshells from Aguila and Federal. A pump, single shot, and a double barrel shotgun are used in this fun and exciting review.
Love your videos. They reinforce my contention that the shotgun and it's many many iterations of ammo, is by far the deadliest, most devastating, powerful, weapon for home defense ever designed. I'm sure by saying that I will have many who will disagree. That's fine. They can be wrong if they want to. Again thanks for your videos.

I use the OpSol mini shells adapter in my Shockwave, no# 4 buckshot and slugs. A range and part of my home defense arsenal. Those mini shells are no joke... 👊😊💯🇺🇸
I just dig your "STAR TREK" intro, thx for the vid. The shell carrier will feed them with out the adapter if the weapon is angled up, not down,but maybe not that you would bet your life on it tho. For SD I think at modest ranges they would work fine, think 30 yd s or so, or household range.

@@mixup98 .45 ACP, the best caliber for self defense. For war, I would take 10 mm.
I did for about 10 years until I ran some CCW drills on a shot timer with some IDPA targets against some of my friends that had glocks. I can’t tell you how many failure to fires I had from my grip being too high on the axis and failing to depress the web safety. I carried a Kimber Desert or original warrior or Tac Pro 2 or Colt 80 series I worked over, so it wasn’t poor quality but design. I’m also not going to disable the safety as it’s a carry gun.
When a shot clock is used and I’m competing in any way, the garbage trigger and unnatural point of aim of the Glock hardly make a difference. I logged all my results on excel as well as my friends and realized a trigger under stress I hardly feel. Although I still prefer a 1911 for pleasure, I carry a Glock 9mm with an RMR and light IWB, with extra mags opposite to balance my belt for EDC.
This is my first of your videos so I apologize if I’m missing something.
I really just need the Wilson Combat EDC X9 but $3,000 is a lot for a handgun when I feel training rounds are a better investment.
To test the effectiveness of the mini shells, you really need to find someone to testify as to which round is more effective: from the targets perspective. I would bet they could not tell the difference.

I don't really care much how Aguila is to be pronounced,..I do care ( like ) how they perform though. They, and Federal, perform surprisingly well.

I tell ya, these Aguila MiniShells are a lifesaver. I've got an old 1905 Parker Bros shotgun I gave to my father for Fathers Day about 2 years ago. He loves the thing and regularly takes it to skeet shooting matches with boxes of birdshot. With how old the piece is though, we've always been afraid of loading up some modern high brass 00 Buckshot and seeing if she can handle the ammo for home defense since he only owns it and a Mosin Nagant for range shooting. I bought 5 boxes of Aguila Minishell Buckshot ammo from my local gunshop and we both feel safe shooting them out of a 116 year old Double.

@@mixup98 Since I butted in may as well share an extra tip as well and plug myself. If you want to add another 4 minis to your load out you can double up your shell holder with 8. At the 30 second mark in my video below I show that set up. It looks kind of wonky but they hold solid. You probably know that but just throwing it out for anyone interested. Good video as is all your posts. Like Hank Williams Jr. says in his song, "We them old boys raised on shotguns". Been following your posts on the Mossberg Maverick 88 Security model. That coupled with a full mag of mini-shells would give a guy formidable firepower in the home defense role. That is a beautiful area of the country you live in. Perfect for filming your videos. I also like that you have The Rifleman as your avatar. Loved watching that show as a kid especially the opening where Chuck is working the lever on that Winchester making it sing like a machine gun, bad to the bone.

I bought a bunch of those "police" mini buckshot shells and they feed just fine through my remmington 870... no adapter needed for my 870.

Great option for home defence.
The Defender Tactical minishel adaptor will allow you to shoot the minishels AND 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells mixed interchangeably without removing the adaptor. This fits Mossberg 500 shotguns and is about $25 from Defender Tactical
It is a little more difficult to install requiring disassembly, but it no bit deal.
Aguila is a Spanish word for Eagle
You don't need an adapter for the 870. They will work without it.

Always liked the concept of mini shotshells. However me and a plastic stocked 12 ga . double had an agreement that after kicking the setting out of my ring. Went to a 20 ga .about 25 years ago and have never missed 12 ga. Not once ..
My Winchester SXP runs shorty shells without an adapter holds 8+1 instead of 5+1, I have only shot the Federal 1oz slugs 1200fps I’m a fan they are just a little softer on recoil then 1oz -2 3/4 shells but nothing weak that’s for sure.
I have the Opsol for my 590A1 but haven't tried it yet. I also load my own 12 gage shotshells and was wondering is the powder load is the same in the mini shells as a conventional shell. I might have to disassemble some and find out, it would account for the felt recoil being the same. I'm intrigued by this.

I keep these on the shelves at the gun shop because the farmers and ranchers that stop in buy them by the ton. I haven't heard one complaint about the Aguila buckshot or slugs .I keep a few boxes on hand at home myself for the Maverick 88 that some guy on a certain TH-cam channel convinced me to buy. I absolutely love that shotgun. Great video as always.
I've really been impressed with all the Aguila ammo that I have shot over the last several years and I may do a review on some of their centerfire pistol and rifle ammo. I don't know how many Maverick shotguns I have sold for Mossberg but I think they owe me a commission :)
Mossberg certainly owes you something. I think you are their best sales rep. LOL We keep plenty of Aguila rimfire ammo on hand too. I am the kinda person who is driven to stock quality guns and ammo at affordable prices I've found it keeps the customer coming back.

I use one in my Mossberg 590 Shockwave and love it. Never had a misfeed or jam with it. These shells are not to be taken lightly. 1200 fps......

I got the 18.5" barrel, but I love the look of the 20". I learned to enjoy the smaller barrel though. Easy to maneuver and good size with the bird head grip installed. Although I retired the birds head grip. Love the factory stock on the maverick.

Enjoyed your video....loving the wide open background. The Opsol adapter has been around for over 4 years now. Designed for the Mav 88 initially, with the Aguila shells. Now 3 major companies are mass producing minis, the Shockwave was introduced one year after Mossberg had Opsols to test. Remingtons and Winchesters have feed and extract issues as well as a solid carrier. Carriers drop before the front of a mini reaches the barrel, and extraction springs push the shell out at the top of the shell, causing them to rotate out and the brass hangs on the ejection port. Mossberg carrier stay up through the whole firing sequence, and the springs hit all shells near the brass. Beam me up Scotty.

"Back in the day", Paper shells were most common and I used to get the most mileage out of those things by cutting them shorter when the crimps got frayed. If there were no pinholes above the brass, you could reuse these shells and roll crimp with one of those hand cranked roll crimpers. My Dad's Model 12 would even feed the shells OK if they were at least 1-3/4" long. So, these are nothing new actually. I made little cardboard dividers out of cereal box material that fit together in an X kind of arrangement. It would help the shot spread better in a full choke shotgun. These ideas came out of articles I read in some Sports Afield or Outdoor Life magazine. Those short shells seemed to work just fine. I tried it with my new Henry .410 lever gun and got double feeds out of my attempts. So, they may or may not feed in any given gun. All adds to the fun though. That's what it's all about. Love watching your Dad and Son videos! Great reviews with no B.S. or playing favorites, just honest reviews. Boy, honesty...what a concept huh!? Keep up the good work and continue having fun!
Although I have been reloading my own ammo since the late '70s, and I have loaded shot shells using pistol brass, I have never reloaded shotgun ammo. I can't believe the high cost of shotgun ammo today so maybe I should start reloading my own. Your reloading of paper shot shells using cereal box dividers was ingenius. I love your feedback regarding and my son and I and hopefully we will be making a video together sometime next week.

I have an Akkar Churchill 12ga pump shotgun and it runs any shell I've ever put into it, flawlessly, time after time. No adapter required.

Last I heard, that OPSol adapter was only useful in Mossberg shotties, not so much with Remingtons. It seems to jamb up too much on Remy's.

These mini shells were the very reason my first shotgun purchase was a mossberg 500... my wife has had a fear of guns for as long as we've been together... I finally got her to shoot a shotgun and she was ok with it but then I let her shoot some #4 mini shells and she fell in love. I'm a happy camper.
put a blackhawk knox recoil reducing, adjustable M4 type butt stock and you wont feel any recoil, i put 1 on to take the bite out of 3 inch magnum slugs

Great product, and of course a great video -- I really need to get out more often, because I had no idea they had an adapter for mini shells. Ordering 2 right now from Midway, 14.99 each. A Maverick 88 AND a Stoeger Uplander - you, good sir, are a scholar and a gentleman.
My Uplander is a 20 gauge - because Dick's Sporting Goods in San Antonio was out of 12's at the time (2009) - and my Maverick 88 is the Security and Field Combo, that came with the extra 28" barrel for hunting, purchased just days ago, when amazingly a local gun store actually got some of them in stock.
I reserved the gun late Saturday night, to pick up on Monday, and an hour later checking to see what was in stock for buckshot and slug rounds, stumbled across the Aquila mini-shell slugs. And in the reviews, someone mentioned that their Maverick 88 cycled these shells smoothly with something called a mini-shell adapter.
By the time I went to pick up my gun on Monday afternoon, I already had an OpSol adapter on order and in the mail.
And wonder of wonders, that same store also had a decent supply of ammo on hand (decent for 2020 at least) - including Federal Shorty mini-shells with 15 pellets of # 4 buckshot. I snatched up a box of them, along with some Federal TruBall slugs and Nobel 00 buckshot before leaving.
Awesome!! Sounds like you did really good by finding and picking up a shotgun, an Opsol adapter and even some buckshot. Maybe you should play the lottery. I wasn't aware that Federal made mini shell buckshot loads...I'll have to look for some and do a review. Be advised that Nobel 00 buckshot shells pack a wallop and they generate a whole bunch of recoil. Stay safe, enjoy your Maverick 88 and thank you very much for watching my video.
@@mixup98 LOL, believe me, it was sheer luck on my part, just happened to check their website Saturday night after they'd gotten a stock of several types of tactical and pump shotguns in. They're probably THE main gun store in Charlotte, been in business for over 60 years. One of the employees mentioned that they were getting in 4 trucks PER DAY of guns, ammo, and other gear, just to try and keep up with demand.
Federal is making three types of minishells - the birdshot you tested - the buckshot I found, with 15 pellets of # 4 buck, and a 1 ounce slug. They're advertising 1200 fps on the 1 oz slug, same on the # 4 buck.
Thanks for the warning on the Nobel buckshot. Thankfully, I opted for the 9 pellet "low recoil" variety - same for the Federal Truball slugs, they had one box of low recoil left. At that, I'll be using a Pachmayr slip-on recoil pad, over the top of the installed pad, because the way I'm built I need around 15 1/4" LOP to be able to get a decent sight picture and hit the broad side of a barn.
I have A maverick 88, folding stock, holds 8 rounds as well. I always wondered, about the adapter and shells as well? Shells are available, at the gun show, when it comes to town, but malfunction in most shotguns,, other than single or double barrels. I found about his adapter, thought about , however, never bought. I like how the slugs have a nose heavy hollow cavity design. Very similar to the Lee keydrive design. Good shootin' fellas!

I’m thinking of getting the mini slugs for my truck gun would that be a good self defense round ?
I would not hesitate to use Aguila buckshot or slugs in my shotgun for self defense. Just make sure that they cycle through your shotgun.
I was thinking the minis were a novelty, but the more info I gather the more I like them for home defense, and situations where the full load is overkill (ugh, pun). Hopefully someone will come up with a design for the 870.
