  • I have a Blue chalksticks that I found lying on its side. The stem was mushy so I suspect Root Rot. But no really sure. It was not overwatered. I am trying a rescue.

      As a general precautionary measure, I dust anything new I have to repot and expose the roots. Apparently, the roots are quite tolerant of it, so there' no downside. 😉

      Cinnamon is amazing! I woke up one day and found yellow mushrooms growing in my monstera. I dusted them with ground cinnamon and within 48h, the mushrooms had shrivelled down into nothing!

      @@AmyM-yg1ue hi Amy .... I'm new to all this but in this case the mushrooms are bad??.....I ask because I've heard that when you find them in the top soil of your potted plants they're actually helping break down mulch and making nutrients accessible to the plant.....so yeah I guess it makes sense if they're on the plants that they're actually hurting them😔...
      I'm so glad this worked for you and thanks for the pro tip.....now if I have a similar problem I'll know what to do😉

    Hi Kim, I'm a "liker" from Lake Charles, LA. I've had a fair amount of experience with succulents and I'd like to give "blue chalk sticks" a whirl. They appear to be easy to grow and will make a nice addition alongside my desert roses and Madagascar palm. Also, I got lucky and was able to purchase a 3-branch plumeria ("Teresa Wilder") from J&J Plumeria via Etsy. The plumeria has done nicely and sprouted a few new leaves since I put it in a pot last month (April '24). Thanks for posting the most informative video. 🪴🌵

    If you cut off the cuttings, you should let them dry for two days and then stick them in the ground. I cut off thick shoots and also the tip, then new shoots form directly on top.

    I water my blue chalksticks once a week. In order to maintain blue chalks, they need to also be in a sunny window. most likely they are underwater since the soil is very dry

    • @KimsGardensandHome
      @KimsGardensandHome  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I agree in hindsight that it could have been from underwatering.

  • @KimsGardensandHome
    @KimsGardensandHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have my Blue chalksticks in hypertufa and I am fairly sure they are not over-watered. In fact, underwatered might be more likely. But it seems to have rotted base stems except for the third stem. I am rescuing it with cinnamon....hopefully!

  • @LushGardener
    @LushGardener 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That’s called dry rot ….it’s looks similar to a rot that you would get from overwatering…..but it’s the opposite…..this usually happens when the temperature is very warm and humid and the soil stays dry …..this is very tricky to understand….I usually keep a close check during the warmer months

    • @jordyndanforth2301
      @jordyndanforth2301 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that’s what’s happening to mine right now. What have you done to try to prevent it?

    • @LushGardener
      @LushGardener 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jordyndanforth2301 cut the rot asap ….the early the better …..then let the cut callus you can use cinnamon powder …just dip the cut part in cinnamon powder and let it heal….then let it air root ….once roots are visible put it in soil…and follow a proper watering schedule….don’t let the soil dry for too long if your climate is warm and humid…..water only when the soil is completely dry …..to maintain a proper watering schedule you can note the days from watering to soil getting completely dry …..so then you have a fair idea when the next watering is due ☺️….wishing you all the luck ☺️

    So I was given what I believe to be are blue chalk sticks, they look just like this except mine have a bit of a problem. They were given to me in bad condition, and I am only 16 so I don't have much knowledge about this plant. Based off of what I have seen online, it should be a healthy green color, and all of the leaves should be green and appear healthy. The entire stem is a brownish-green color, and the 'leaves' are completely brown and dried up and very thin like twigs. It only really looks healthy on top. There is a second, shorter growth which also has the same issue with the leaves but is in a bit better condition. I felt the stem that is above the soil and it is firm. I haven't watered it since I received it which was a few weeks ago, so I am unsure what to do as I am a complete beginner. Do you have any ideas?

    • @KimsGardensandHome
      @KimsGardensandHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the stem is getting brown, it may be dying from root rot (which happens from the soil level and on upwards.) You might want to cut some upper branches, let them dry and callous a few days, then plant them in dry soil to rescue what you have left. Good luck with your Chalk Sticks.
