I just released my first course called The Genius Journal that teaches my system to generate creative ideas each week and document your life in a meaningful way. Check it out here! 👉 ericpfohl.com/genius-journal
For me: Analog for unwinding and being in the moment, offline, ease of use. I'm into the travellers company notebooks. and digital on my ipad for accessibility, brainstorm, on the go.
After I started putting your newsletter seminar into practice and integrating your content into my daily practice, writing has been liberating and freeing me from mental fog. One of the best pieces of content I received in 2024 and that will make a difference for the rest of my life was your channel appearing on my timeline. Thank you :D
enjoyed the video subscribed to the newsletter. Im always learning to learn to at least trying to do. Been trying different systems and structures throughout the years. Always tweaking but Staying consistent. Enjoyed the video. thank You.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for following along with the newsletter! I'm always trying to learn - and each thing that I share is simply a way of doing that :)
I have an issue with object permanence. If I can't see it... I forget it exists. I realise a phone is a physical item, but each app is not tactile enough for me to remember to use it. The phone itself is not a reminder enough when it can hold your entire life should you wish it. A notebook is very visual. It's there, you see it and it will inevitably hold fewer purposes than your phone or computer. Therefore it is a reminder to do the things you need to do by its mere existence. For example: if you have a paper planner, journal, notes for some purpose or another, creative space... You maybe have all of that in one book (and with respect, you're crazy!) but it's more likely you have it split up. Like for me, I have one journal that holds my church sermon notes, bible memorisation, prayer requests, answers and testimonies. I have another book that purely holds my to dos and to be theres for work and personal. I also have a book that holds memory keeping of the every day and an overview of yearly boring adult appointments that I have to keep up with (y'know, dentist or oil changes or whatever). So when I see those books I remember to update them. When I see my phone I go on TH-cam, honestly. Lol. Anyway. Physical books are literally more physical. And that's just perfect for people who are forgetful. Especially when paired with your other points about making it easier to remember or "learn" and the higher chance of losing stuff digitally.
Very well said! Thanks for sharing! I do love the physical reminder of having specific notebooks for specific purposes, rather than getting lost in distractions on your phone. Thanks for following along :)
I have been using the Neo Smartpen for years and easy way for me to jot down notes using a digital pen with ink and paper. I also use Eink devices which I find a great way to take notes and brainstorm. Being able to search my notes is key.
I use digital for quick business notes (on phone calls, meetings, to-dos) and paper for anything that requires original thought. I transcribe paper into digital so it's all accessible anywhere.
Analog for me :) Although I did enjoy the Evernote experience many years ago when it was simple and easy and worked properly. And also the notes app on my Palm Pilot device :)
I love my ipad mini and pen but ban i get distracted even with a cleaned out screen with no apps I still feel clicking a notes app like goodnote just feels like I click a lot to just started writing compacted to opening my notebook.
Accessibility, yet my generation of living before cell phones is why I do both. However, I will always love analog best even though I can type faster. It's something about getting my thoughts on paper. I don't trust my notes on phone since I randomly lost them once and bever figured out why 😂. And yes, these were all my passwords. 🥴 Therefore, analog will always be my go-to.
anything for work is digital. those doodles and kpis are not worth in physical existence to earth. anything worth losing and prone to changing is all in digital planners. anything personal that is permanent, physical space. Proof it exists. tangible. - physical journal

Sounds like a great workflow!

on a notebook or on an app?

Sounds like a great setup! I'll have to look into the smartpen!
Thanks for this share Eric. I really enjoy the way you present. Nick
I really appreciate that Nick! Thank you for following along!
So trivial/random: Where's your wedding band from? I dig it! Also, great content as always!
Haha thanks! It is from Mejuri - they have some cool stuff. Not sure of the exact one though. I appreciate ya following along!

Ahh great idea! Original thought definitely is best on pen and paper. Thanks for sharing!

Some of the simpler digital apps can be nice... but there's just something about the analog! :)

I have been loving using my iPad for writing and notes, but totally agree that it's so easy to get distracted.

Haha I love it! Can’t beat good old analog :)
I take physical notes. Then I enter them into obsidian. Doing so helps me to think about the topic twice.
Love that, great idea!

Haha certain things are definitely best left in a digital format!
Supernote. So analogue feel but digital, so infinite books in one device.
Interesting. I haven't tried any digital note-taking devices, but would be curious to try them out!

Haha it's a me!
