    Thank you for this. I can keep the lid as cover. Will be using to store rain water.

    Thank you for this video. I like how the lid fits at the end. I have a barrel, need it to hold water in my garden area. This will be perfect!

    I straddled my barrel like you but when the saw blade got pinched it kicked back and tracked across my leg. I was bleeding pretty bad but no worries... I stood in the barrel until help could come (didn't want to get blood on the carpet). My neighbor tried to roll me to the car but lost control on the hill. I ended up in the pond and nearly drowned before I got out of the barrel. All turned out well and the video was helpful. Thinking about doing my own DIY video.

    Much appreciated from water starved California. Making rain barrels and this simple instructional was a great help. I used a regular hand saw.

    Excellent. Thank you. I watched several other videos first and am glad I came across yours. It was easy, quick AND preserved the top for a well-fitting lid.

    My family and I volunteer hundreds of hours a year recycling through out our community trying to spread the word.Our first recycle cans came straight from the dump where people throw them away when barely damaged.

    You can make airtight sealed barrels from two barrels. Cut the "container" barrel top off, then cut a "cap" to fit from the bottom of a second barrel. I've had engine parts stored that way outdoors in the humid southeast for years. I also store grain in some of them (which had soda syrup in them, not chems!)
    Self explanatory if you look at the barrels.

    Your dog was eating a blue plastic scrap at the end of the video - hope she is ok! Thanks for the idea - I’ll use a hand saw - that unforgiving Circ saw and the wiggling barrel was a little too scary for me to do it. Thanks for posting. I’ve had good success w spuds in huge pots here in N Tx!

    Don't do it this way! The top band is structural to the barrel. Cut off from the end with a rotozip, sawzall or jig saw. Without the top band the barrel will warp and is not nearly as strong.

      @@PAPATexas * Update* Ok..... so I just did 2 of them today, took the tops off, one with a handsaw and one with a 5'' Makita Grinder. The handsaw only cuts about half an inch a time so, its a workout lol, so i switched to my wee grinder, with a diamond disc, it made a slightly better job and slightly quicker but I was the 'blue guy' after that, covered from head to toe with blue dust. lol. I finished mine off with the blow torch just to seal the straggly sharp bits and make it look polished and professional . Mine is for rainwater harvesting for drinking water, i'm in the sticks here.

    It's way better to cut it from the top like open a cane rather than cut from the side.
    The barrel will become squashy in the long term without its core ring structure removed.
    I use a jigsaw to cut from the top. Then putting cringe on it. Much better.

  • @AztecWarrior69
    @AztecWarrior69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Stop sitting on it. Ratchet strap the bottom to a board. Your sitting on it is what's causing the binding. Also use a table saw and furniture dolly. Strap dolly to table casters up. Place brum and second strap over it just snug enough to keep drum down. Set Fence. Turn on saw and raise blade so it just cuts through. Roll drum. That's it.

  • @RobertWilliams__
    @RobertWilliams__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I cut mine at about the same okace so it would still cap the OD of the barrel, my lid bent kind of like a taco shell and never fit again. lol
