Update 10-18-2019 : The Live Wire has resumed Shipping. There was a several day delay on shipping the Live Wire out to dealers due to a charging concern. The issue was isolated with one of the bikes and was not an issue shared with the other Live Wires going out.
I think it's a really cool looking bike and I applaud Harley Davidson for such a bold move. This is the way the future is going and the amount of electric cars I now see on the roads here in Wellington NZ along with the scooters and electric skate boards I myself would definitely have one. Keep up the great and informative videos Matt love them.
There is already a manufacturer of electric motorcycles that is much better for city commuting. Its called the Zero motorcycle. Check it out, its also allot cheaper.
It's the way of the future, however there's something to be said by having an awesome sound and breathing engine under you, thankfully by the time they are all you can buy, and nothing else, I'll be in the other world.
They should keep allowing piston engines if they run on hydrogen, that's pretty much the same thing for the environnement. E-bikes have advantages, like when you're stuck in traffic on a hot day, they don't melt your legs...
I got to borrow one for the weekend. I was very impressed!!! It blew away my brothers 17 Dyna Low Rider S with the Stage 4 117 kit...I mean it wasn't even close folks! He said by the time he was ready to shift into second gear, I was already 90-100 feet ahead of him. ICE bikes don't have a chance in competing. The bike was only at 80% factory set power, meaning I didn't even adjust the the custom mode to get 100% out of it. The bike will put a stupid grin on your face days after you get done riding.
Can't wait to see these in person. I know it doesn't fit with the overall vibe of the bike but I'd love to see an analog speedo option. I also think someone ought to map out LiveWire dealerships and do a cross country run, just for the sake of it. It would be a blast. Keep up the good work brother!
Inb4 someone goes "BUUTTT ZZZEERRRROOOOOO DDDDIIIIT FOOOORRSSST" and completely miss the point that Harley is the first MAJOR company to do a production run of an Electric motorcycle. Not honda, not kawi, not ducati, not triumph... not anyone... Except here's Harley. So many people are gonna jump and not realize what's been said.
Thanks for this video. The Livewire is truly an amazing bike and I can't wait to try one. I think we're going to see this technology at a significantly lower price point before we even know it. I don't think I'd be able to have this thing as my only bike- (as it is I'm in the wormhole of figuring out how to get an FXDR tank on my 2019 124" Street Bob. I really wish my bike had a little more range) but still the performance of this thing is amazing and it looks great. Everyone I've talked to says its the fastest, best handling Harley ever- and possibly the fastest, best handling "standard" anyone is offering right now. The bike looks like it'd outrun an Aprilia Tuono which is amazing. $30k is stupid expensive- but it's cheaper than the new top of the line Ducati V4 Streetfighter will be I bet!
I think it is a great looking bike and would definitely be a great second bike. I would love to have one, but I just can't afford it. I hope they are successful with this bike.
Why didn't they call the Live Wire the Silent Bob LOL would of been heaps funny. I do like the bike I think it would be so cool to blast about on it's out of my price range but I get it and from what I hear in reviews I think it is worth the money anyway thanks for another awesome vlog Matt.
Nice. Super exciting to see where the motor company is going with this - non-combustion, brembo branded brake cylinders, all white surroundings etc etc
We didn't get one yet but we should be very soon. There was a shipping delay to make sure there was no issues with the charging system. There was an isolated issue with one bike.
Matt Laidlaw. I think the dollar per pound you can compare it to the zero. 2020 it is on par it costs 20,000.00 so then add dealer fee and tax and title and service plan and etc. how far are the shopper really off.? thoughts? have you thought of a comparison?
I'd love one if I had the cash (which I don't). I love a loud bike, my bikes got a loud pipe fitted, but I'm not afraid of change and new experiences. Hearing the mugen at the TT was awesome, they sounded like jet fighters or UFO. living in the UK means distance isn't much of a problem. My parents, for example, live around 30 miles away on back roads. So this would be great for journeys such as that.
It won't be electric, it'll be Hydrogen fuel cell, and instant refuelling, no waiting for a heavey battery to recharge, that's the real future. Real world 350 mile range on one fill up.
Great video Matt! I think this is a great scoot for those that are commuters or big city people. It is the future of where riding is going. Harley Davidson has to be building bikes outside of the box to survive. Keep up the great info content you put out. I know I greatly appreciate what you do! #unt ;;;
Very cool 😎 Bikes a rocket 🚀 and will smoke anything on the road. Unbelievably fast 💨 Rode it hard in canyons for 6+ hours in eco mode and barely used any battery 🔋(76% left) I was tired way before it needed a recharge. Best part is zero maintenance other than tire replacement and a bike wash 🧼
... I hope they bring some sattle bags and top case options for the LiveWire. Zero Bikes has some, that buyers very often order. The Livewire is for me a city, cummuter, downtown bike, that needs some cargo capacity.
it is prob the wave of the future but for now, I don't think it will sell very well considering how us Americas LOVE the sound and patented sound of an HD? we will see!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s a cool piece of technology but I just don’t see where he market for this is. It’s way out of the range of the hipsters riding triumphs and scooters that’d be all over this.
@@MattLaidlaw Which means it has a very small market and not gonna sell a lot eventually droping it from the lineup like every other harley with that had poor sales🤦. Cool bike but too expensive and not very practical would much rather buy a sportster for the same purpose this bike was built for.

Great comments. Good news for us riders Harley-Davidson doing their best to get the younger riders involved, but the Article I read in a business newspaper article was Early signs are no interest in this livewire from younger folks the percentage of orders are from the older generation. Forget about the price, way too much money but what is scary is the age bracket that are buying and it isn’t the younger generation
I’ve read a couple of those articles and it’s impossible to come to any conclusion at this point when the bike just shipped a week ago. That being said it’s unlikely young people will get the bike because they just can’t afford it. I see people in their mid 30’s to 40’s buying this bike that have good income.
Not so excited for an electric bike, but I figure the livewire is the test bed for the chassis/brakes/tech that'll be featured in the upcoming Pan-American/streetfighter etc. Still would like to ride one though.
Rode one last month during the rally here. Definitely interesting. Fit and finish was really good. Suspension was great. Why cant Harley do that for all of their models?
Good to know Harley is thinking of the future. I just recently own a new Fat Boy after great consideration. Had to determine wether to spend a lot of money on a Ducati Panigale or a Harley Davidson Softail. I spend a lot of years on naked semi sportbikes. But the years begin to count and I noticed that when having a fast bike no matter what age (how old) you are, they always invite to go fast. So I had to decide do I want to keep going fast? Or do I want a relaxed ride, enjoying the ride, the motorcycle and the scenery with the typical 2 cilinder big bore exhaust note in the back. This has always been somewhat of a dilemma for me, fast or relaxed? But then I always ended up buying the fast bike. But I finally purchased my first Harley Davidson, the 2019 Fat Boy, and I have no regrets except for why I didn't get one sooner. I don't think the Livewire will give me that relaxed feeling and ride because of the sporty shape, the high pitch engine sound, the acceleration. For the price I would buy another Softail a de Luxe or Lowrider S. Good that Harley is thinking of the future and younger generation but please don't ever let go of the typical Harley design, sound and feel.
Thanks for the comment. Always good to hear people’s progression. I have the same problem. When I jump on a Sport bike I can’t have fun unless I’m doing 100MPH. On a Harley you can have fun without doubling the speed limit.
Hey Matt, when editing video, don't force cuts to align exactly with the music (sync cut) with such rapidity. Doing it every once in a while is ok but so many of them with such a short interval is a strain in the viewer as it forces the brain to "orient" itself, to discern what the image is, what's going on, only to be forced again into the process even before you fully get your bearing and again and again. It's cool what you're attempting but there is more finesse to it and the bottom line is it shouldn't feel abrupt and contrived, which it does at the beginning of your video. Just a head's up.
I've been riding Harley Davidson motorcycles for 20 years now and have owned 4 in that time (and never lived in the USA). I really like where the company is going with this bike. It's a good looking bike but it's no roadking special! In all seriousness though, at this point in my life, this bike would be my secondary bike / commuter, and while I would love that, I simply can't afford it to cost more than my RKS. Bring down the price Harley Davidson (a lot), and I'll buy one
It looks great, the finish looks beautiful and Im sure electric bikes are the future but I don't understand why I'd want one now. I like HD because of the engine, style and feel of the ride. Why would I want this, just because it's a HD?
It’s too bad all E vehicles are expensive!! This is one cool bike and I recommend that when you get a chance ride one it’s the future! At this price it’s for the upper 2% of the market in some areas is the USA!! In other countries .005 of the market!
So I would think that an electric bagger would be awesome and it should create more space for more batteries thus extending the range . Need to get 250-300 miles range .
Harley-Davidson is innovative. This is important if the company is to survive in the motorcycle market. Though I like the look of the bike, it's not for me. Perhaps if it was a hybrid I'd be more inclined to buy it.
Its November 3rd and these bikes still aren't in the showrooms. I think harley lost the hype when that charging issue hit the news. 30k is way too much, its definitely historical. I hope the MoCo can figure out a way to make it cheaper, otherwise this project is DOA.
Now that Harley has made a successful electric motorcycle expect competition like Honda and Kawasaki to come out with their bikes it's coming I can see it hopefully Harley doesn't lose in the arms race of electric motorcycles and the problem is there will be brand new companies rising up as well there is alot of potential in this technology the question remains will Harley Davidson stay at the top of this technological food chain so to speak???
29k is just insane! Plus you add tax it will roughly 32k. Our 2017 bmw i3 with bells and whistles and range extender brought everything down to 37k its because of tax break, loyalty and less msrp discount. This will be a DOA as i can see...
Awesome, you don't have to pay for gas. But you can also just buy a 7K naked bike. Spend the odd $200 per year in maintenance. And maybe $20 per week in fuel (if you ride a ton). It would take nearly 20 years of riding before you started 'saving' money on gas/maintenance with this as opposed to a normal bike. Price point should be 10-12K. Not 30K.
Cool but you need to be doctor that ends with oligist to afford one and a short one too. 😉 Also does it have regenerative type brakes like an EV car? Hope you sell them all! Thanks!
Honestly and truly, the cost of those accessories is insane. I have some very "well to do" friends who are going to buy a Live Wire, and they feel insulted by what the company is asking for those extras. Those who actually "know" what they cost say it shows hubris to show off and throw all those unnecessary expensive parts on there.
LiveWire is old news. H-D needs the mid-range EV line up ASAP. Its make or break time. Watch the Tokyo Motor Show Oct 24th as Yamaha introduces a series of innovative "EV's for mobility" products designed specifically for urban transportation. Even a module that converts a standard wheelchair to a full control EV. The Motor Company needs to learn how to play as a technology company to capture the EV market. And, yes, carbon fiber is the future.
Personally I am mystified by them...I don’t get it...but I also see that HD did the right thing entering this market...by watching the upstarts to see what they came up with.....that defines the potential for this type thing. Then HD applies their experience at mass production and produces a workable bike that is actually built to ride. And boutique bikes that are hand built may be fine for the snooty types....a reliable well made bike that is also splendidly styled is the way to go.....and as to the cost, well maybe Tesla had the right idea....build a big fancy things first and feel out the market...then build bread and butter bikes that we can actually afford....like maybe an addition to the Street series....500cc 750cc......and 50kw!
First thing I asked myself is "Does the fairing come off?" In the video I see it does but there's a little frame left. I wonder if that comes off too and if it looks good. I love E-bikes and Harley and I love the sound, but I'm sorry to see it's not more of a cruiser. Feet high, knees bent, your weight on the handlebars... :-(
this bike would look good in DUCATI RED PAINT!!!! IT WILL HAVE TO BE A SECOND HAND ONE FOR ME £30.000 IS JUST TOO MUCH. I LOOK FORWARD TO IT ARRIVING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM..
If Harley wants new riders, then keep up the ads & commercials. Biggest point to bring to the attention of non-riders is LEARNING HOW TO RIDE! I come across people all the time that are interested, think riding & motorcycles are cool but don't know how to ride one. Emphasis on the fact that many Harley dealerships offer riding courses. Sell that and I will guarantee you it will drive up bike sales whether gas or electric.
In my humble opinion the Motor Company missed the mark by releasing a high end Livewire and its 29K price to the general public. Had they had an entry level version for half the price and a mid grade level one they would have received more positive feedback from their customers. Instead they went STRAIGHT to the top end model with an off the chart pricetag of which scared everyone away from ever even looking at it. Poor business practice Harley Davidson. Hopefully you can learn from your mistake.
All great and sweet, BUT price ???!!! How many can lay 30k for a skinny bike ? Come on....,20K and I will look at one at the dealer. The range per charge and the unknown vs to price.,..... nope !!!!
I'm sure, as time progresses this will end the way of Buell, HD need to make bikes for the millennials but this I think is a step too far. Honda,Suzuki and Yamaha can predict the future better, because from concept to launch is less than a year, and they are all working on Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, which let's face it, will be the way forward. 350 mile range, instant refuel, as with a petrol or diesel, and no battery degradation to deal with the same performance right through from day 1. I don't know about the US but in the UK we are already having problems with grid supplying the few cars we already have, theres not enough electricity being generated to power transport, lighting and now they are talking going over to electric central heating!!! The infrastructure can't support the demand. Transport will have to use something other than electricity.
I’d buy it right now if I was still able to ride. I applaud HD for taking a step into the future. Good job.

In all seriousness though, at this point in my life, this bike would be my secondary bike / commuter, and while I would love that, I simply can't afford it to cost more than my RKS. Bring down the price Harley Davidson (a lot), and I'll buy one
Great bike for hsrley
⚡️THE LATEST FROM THE GREATEST ⚡️
This bike is for rich people
This is a very well though out EV, it has a lot going on like the quick charge CCS that nobody talks about much. This makes long rides very possible
We have gotten 2. Both sold. The bike is awesome.
Even if they did have a smooth market delivery the LiveWire can't compete with the Zero SR/F.
Europe = 33.900€ /Zero Motorcycles 22.000€
Both prices are expensive. What's your point?
@@PanM8 34,900€ is the LiveWire rate here in Europe 22,000 c is the cheapest and most efficient zero rate in Europe
I suppose the point is one is 11,900€ more expensive than the other.
@@splodge57 Yes, it's really expensive.
@@PanM8 yes but the "zero" is more efficient with several years of experience
Not 30K.
If you’re looking for an economic bike then move on my friend. No one is making the argument that this bike is going to save you money.
I would like to see Fat Bob style forward pegs. My knees would be too cramped with my long legs. Cool bike though.
Cool but you need to be doctor that ends with oligist to afford one and a short one too. 😉 Also does it have regenerative type brakes like an EV car? Hope you sell them all! Thanks!
Yes it has regenerative braking. You can adjust the drag in the different ride modes.
So basically all the exhaust manufacturers will be out of business in a few years. ☹️
It's actually pretty upright. Once you are riding it you have very little weight on the handlebars.
Cost will doom it. Zero is half as much and goes twice as far.
Not really...
@@MrPAULONEAL 19k with a 200 mile range
this bike would look good in DUCATI RED PAINT!!!! IT WILL HAVE TO BE A SECOND HAND ONE FOR ME £30.000 IS JUST TOO MUCH. I LOOK FORWARD TO IT ARRIVING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM..
If I had the money to buy one I'd buy something else. To expensive, to short range, too soon. I wish HD well but it's a very tough sale.
I agree. Motorcycles sells across the board are declining because less people are learning to ride at a young age. Among other reasons.
If it's affordably they will come.when will HD learn.
A silent bike is good for lane splitting here in California lol? No thank you.
$ 30,000?? ....nahhhhh!
$44,000 (AUD) in 'OZ' (Australia) ...... nahhhhh!
Love it . But the bike is way too expensive . 15-17k grand would be ok imo .
$30,000 USD? Bike looks exceptional, but that price tag is very steep...
Tow truck needed often!
All great and sweet, BUT price ???!!! How many can lay 30k for a skinny bike ? Come on....,20K and I will look at one at the dealer. The range per charge and the unknown vs to price.,..... nope !!!!
What HD should do is put a Milwaulkee 8 in the exact same frame / design as the livewire
Boast all you want.
Bottom line is it's ugly and it will not go anywhere.
Hire Japanese designers if you want to go in that direction.
Sorry.
