Very underrated, one of the most melodic players ever
Thanks for the comment
Matthias is one of the guitar gods from back in the day..one of my influencers.. that's something that will never be taken away from him..
@floydj.907 a huge influence on me as well.
Me as well, a very melodic player with excellent phrasing. He was at his best in the ballad solos, so damn tasteful.
@blackChromeJamTracks2 Uli is the man! Uli is the best guitarist and better than Matthias or Michael Schenker!
I loved Uli’s playing, Jabs was a very melodic player.
Thanks for watching and your comment.
I love this guitarist ! His solos are so good
Me too. Thanks for watching.
The first time ever hearing Love At first Sting I was an instant fan. The guitar work was absolutely pheonominal.
I had heared "NO ONE LIKE YOU" before But never knew It was SCORPIONS untill after I became a BIG fan and started ventureing further into their music.
SCORPIONS will always be my first favorite into the HEAVY METAL genre, as FOREIGNER is my first favorite Into mainstream "rock N roll".
Matthias Jabbs is by far one of MANY if not the greatest over shadowed and underrated Guitarists in the world. I hope some day he and the rest of the band get recognised with a lifetime achievement GRAMMY and or an induction to the R'n'R hall of fame.
Thanks for watching and the comment
The Scorpions remind me a lot of Lynyrd Skynyrd with their guitar lineup.
@baneverything5580 I can see that.
well hes not that underrated as Kirk, Hetfield, Bon Jovi's Richie, Slash, and many other guitarists idolize him and Michael Schenker whilst Uli Roth on the other hand influenced Yngwie and other heavy lead players
Jabs is great, excellent player. There are lots of great solos in Rock and Metal, he does one of my many favorites. The solo in the song “Blackout” is viscous, fucken badass !!!
I still love jamming to the blackout album
Plus...he is so sexy❤
@orchid733 thanks for watching.
Took me years to get that damn, beginning pull off sequence that starts the 2nd bar. Pinky finger was destroyed from it. 🤘🤣
@lelandgaunt7130 thanks for the comment.
Great player. The thing I love about seeing him live is you can see he truly loves what he is doing.
100%. Thanks for watching.
I always had him right there with Jake E Lee, Wolf Hoffman, Lynch and Demartini. Terrific player.
Thanks for watching and the comment. I forgot about Hoffman. I’ll add him to my list.
He's not only the best guitarist the scorpions have ever had, but one of the best guitarist period. He deserves more credit for his amazing fretboard work 🎸👍
I agree. He one of my favorites. Thanks for watching and the comment.
In my opinion he is the best guitarist in Scorpions
I agree.
Ditto
He’s great. Had giant shoes to fill.
Definitely. Thanks for the comment
Uli Jon Roth was always going to be a tough act to follow. Jabs not only filled the role, but helped the Scorpions reach a level of fame and notoriety that they didn't have beforehand.
Thanks for the comment.
Most bands playing original songs in the 80's played to empty pubs for months & even years except for the odd act that made it professional(usually it would be much to their surprise)
Thanks for your comment.
are you sure that "notoriety" is the correct word here?
@@izzimichaels2892 oh please offer the right one so I can virtue signal next time.
Thanks
Outstanding player.
Thanks for your comment
Agree that he is very underrated. Being a child of the 80’s and seeing so many great guitarists live he is in my top 3 right behind Eddie Van Halen & Billy Gibbons.
Billy Gibbons that’s not a typical top 3. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
@@greatguitaristoftherockera2833 true BG didn’t set his fretboard on fire like a lot of the players did in the 80’s. Seeing him on the Eliminator tour was mesmerizing with his blues rock soul grinding technique. He is/was phenomenal. He set himself apart from anyone else during that time period.
Nice shoutout to Gibbons - Yes, Saw them one time. In the 80's you had to be fast to snag a ticket for them, they were gonzo huge then. I think anyone of that generation is solid Eddie in the top spot. Another guitarist I think doesn't get enough love is Mars - Saw Crue twice, once on the Ozzy tour. Damn good show man, damn good show. And I'll throw an oddball at ya, Mark Reale ~ The band didn't really pop, but a few albums in there with Rhett on vocals are my faves.
The solo from No One Like You outshined anything Roth or Michael Schenker ever did. Lol, yeah, I said it.
Thanks for the comment
@@greatguitaristoftherockera2833 you’re welcome.
Truly makes that main guitar Gibson Explorer sing like no other. 👍🎸
Yes he does. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Yeah not wrong there ,crunching bite
His work on 'Blackout' and 'Love at First Sting' are the best.
But 'Blackout' is my favorite, being one of my very first albums that I collected in 1982.
I was a 16 year old pot head and loved listening to Blackout in my room.
Agreed
The Zoo was really the first song I heard that grabbed my attention to them, loved his use of that Talk Box. The entire Blackout album is great, still holds up today.
I agree. Thanks for watching
commercially, yes. Musically...well... u can not compare him with Michael schenker & Uli jon roth, different levels
Thanks for your comment
Definitely another level!!!!!Matthias is so GRANDIOSE,UNIQUE,MAGNIFICENT,A BRILLIANT VIRTUOUSO that he came and kicked these two in the ass!!! He ALONE replaced these two, showing them who they are, and what they really are and what they musical, professional level!!!
No. Michael Schenker was. They had to bring him back to save their career.
Wrong, they went on to be bigger in the years after his studio stint. He only contributed to 3 songs on Lovedrive & most people don't know that. So, no he didn't save anything. He went back to be mostly forgotten where he's been since.
Thanks for the comment
I agree. Thanks for the comment
My first Scorps album was Lovedrive in high school, my devotion to this band as one of the best ever has never faltered. Saw a lot of bands all through the decade, all the metal bands, Scorpions I got to see twice in the early 80s and I still to this day will state, they were the best sounding, best performance, best show of all. Mathias blows you away with his guitar playing if you see him live.
Is he underrated? I don't know really, don't give one fk what other people think, I know what I know because I was there and I'm at peace with it ~
Thanks for sharing and the comment.
First saw Scorps in 1980 … Jabs was the lead guitarist they needed …
I agree. Thanks for your comment.
It's nice to see the great guitarist that aren't as well known getting shown
Thanks for watching and the comment.
I don’t think he’s the virtuoso Michael or Uli are but he was the right guy for the direction Scorpions were headed, and as great as they were I don’t think they would have gotten to where they were without him
Thanks for the comment
Matthias,a much greater virtuouso than these two combined!!!He'll beat them both on the guitar!!! So,think again!!!
@@АлександрМакаров-г9зhe is a good guitarist, but he doesn't compare to uli roth.
@alexanderruppert1705 Matthias Jabs is on the list of the most technical guitarists in the world, and given his outstanding, diverse, complex, technical, and at the same time melodic solos(neither michael schenker nor uli roth have written anything like this in their entire career!!)we can absolutely say which of them is a just good guitarist, and who is really unique and outstanding!!! MATTHIAS RULES 🎸🎸🎸🎼🎶🤟🔥!!!!!
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Let's say my favorite guitarist from my favorite period of the band. Everybody knows Uli & Michael are great & more revered than Matthias but for some reason he's underrated. He has my favorite style of the 3 & the band produced their best music from 79 to 84 in my opinion & although not a song writer his solo's make those songs greater.
I agree. Thanks for watching
Jabs is awesome and was perfect for the 80s scorpions. Personally I like Uli best but that’s just my preference.
Thanks for watching and the comment
Nope. Michael Schenker is God and Uli Roth is God’s brother!
Thanks for the comment.
Wow, you obviously haven't heard of Uli Jon Roth, right?
Did I say that Roth isn’t awesome? I just think Jabs doesn’t get the attention he deserves.
And what do you think is unique about Jon Roth!?!? Probably by what he copies(even in clothes and all sorts of accessories) Hendrix being his cheap fake!?!? Jon Roth is primitive and mediocre, and time has shown it!!!! He was mediocre being in Scorpions, slowing down in development, and after leaving them(to their great happiness!!!) he generally plays passing garbage or his old tunes played once with Scorpions!!!! And I ask again, WHAT IS THE GREATNESS of Roth!?!!?!??
He rocks in a big way! 🤘
Thanks for watching
Matthias has been one of my favorite players since I heard him play on Animal Magnetism in 1980. He is an extremely solid, stylist, professional player who doesn't miss a note. He's a big influence and inspiration for me. I've seen him with Scorpions dozens of times since the 80s. Yes, he played on Lovedrive, but he didn't make his mark on that album like Michael did. So I always considered Magnetism to be the first true showcase for Matthias's style.
Definitely a big influence on me as well.
It's a German name..it's pronounced Yabs.
Thanks for the info.
@@greatguitaristoftherockera2833 no problem..I saw Jabs and the Scorpions in 1984..I was about 15 feet from the stage..and the opening act was a band from new Jersey with a strange name...called Bon Jovi
@marcdoherty6039 I saw the same tour.
I met Matthias when he was new to the band. He was signing autographs for the Animal Magnetism release tour at Tower Records Mountain View California. He and Herman Rarebell were there. Really cool guys, and all great players. Scorpions (mostly Rudolph according to Michael) put tremendous pressure on Mattias when he joined the band. They expected Matthias to be Michael or Uli, but he is his own man. They brought in Michael again to help record the first album Mattihas was doing with them. Some of the solos were Michael's but Matthias got the credit. It was a very hard transition, until the band finally accepted that Matthias was his own person and player. He did stellar after that, and the new album last year was KILLER.
Some of what I wrote above is from Michael's interviews. He did not want to get involved with the Scorpions again, but his brother pleaded with him. Matthias' playing on that tour (Animal Magnetism) was so killer. I saw them then for the first time and they blew doors. A guy who worked at Tower also introduced me to the Scorpions when Taken By Force was new. Like Motorhead and Maiden with Diano, some heavy European bands were coming on up.
Wow that’s cool. Thanks for the info and comment.
Has some of the greatest Guitar tone ever in rock!
Thanks for watching and the comment.
I don’t think I would’ve been a Scorpions fan if Matthias didn’t join the band. I got hooked on the band on the blackout tour and have been a follower ever since. Mr Jabs got me hooked on my Explorer guitars. three over the years I still have two of them. I was fortunate enough to shake his hand in Toronto, Ontario Canada at Sam The Record man. I’ll always be a fan of him and the band. ROCK ON!!🤘🤘
Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Your story parallels mine. It was his guitar playing that caught my attention, and I was hooked with his style. It wasn’t his solos, though those are fantastic, but it was his fill ins throughout the songs that really turned me on to the Scorpions. It created a song within the song, half the time, I wasn’t even listening to the lyrics. His style is what brought the Scorpions from an average metal band to true stardom.
Seen him 3 times and I'd have to say he is the best!
Thanks for watching and the comment.
He did well for the band, but c'mon, Uli rules .....
Thanks for the comment
Michael Schenker was the best lead guitarist Scorpions had, sorry.
Uli Roth was wasn't a slouch either.
Thanks for the comment.
I've always loved the song... Lady starlight.
Thanks for your comment. I don’t know that song I’ll have to check it out.
@@greatguitaristoftherockera2833 yes if you haven't heard it.. you need to.
It's always been a favorite scorp song for me.
I love that song, but I believe the solo is played by Rudolph.
Rudolf does the lead on this song
It's Rodolphe shenker solo
always thought he was the cleanest great player ever
Yes fantastic player. Thanks for the comment.
Jabs is great, but he ain’t no Roth.
No F,n way! Are you kidding me? Michael Schenker was the best lead guitarist ever for the Scorpions! Just listen to Love Drive as suggested…
Are YOU kidding. Schenker is an awesome guitarist and probably the best of his genre but he did one awful album and 3 good tracks with scorpions. Uli is the best guitarist scorpions ever had. Not schenker
Nooooo. Mathias is a splendid guitarrist, but Uli Jon Roth is the GOD of Scorpions
Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Jabs is a monster!!!
But he's no Roth or Schenker
Thanks for the comment
Oh', yes he is, and very much so!☆¡ 😮
The solo on No On Like You outshined anything Roth or Schenker ever did.
Assault attack with Michael.
You're right. He's better.
It’s unfair to compare ANYONE to Uli!
Unless it’s Matthias :)
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Jabbs is one of my top 10 favorite players.
Mine too. Thanks for watching and the comment.
First Michael, fill those shoes! WTF?!! Uli?! Fill those shoes! WTactualF??! Matthias?! Nobody else on earth could have usurped the throne except Matthias. U rule man🤘
Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Just what the scorps needed, at the perfect time.
Thanks for the comment and for watching.
Uli might be a better technician but Matthias came up with the best licks
I agree. Thanks for watching and the comment.
I was at the same Day on the green " Best out door concert ever" so loud so good, Miss the good old day's when MEN were MEN and WOMEN were fuk'n hot & Rock& Roll.was the best $ 5.50 a ticket. FJB
Yeah the good old days
I’ve always thought he was better than both Schenkers.
I prefer his playing.
MATTHIAS IS THE REASON WE MAKE MUSIC AND STARTED OUR BAND....................BIG INFLUENCE ON US
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Mathias is the best guitarist in Scorpions...
Thanks for watching and the comment.
I would have to say YES!!!
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Such slick leads ,especially love at first sting ,that album was the definition of seasoned chemistry
Good guitarist but Uli is the man
Thanks for the comment
Michael Schenker!
Thanks for the comment
Schenker, uli then jabs
Thanks for the comment.
Does anyone know if Matthias old bands cut any albums? Would love to hear some of his early work.
The band Lady recorded at least one album.
@@greatguitaristoftherockera2833 thank you, just found it... 😉
00:26 Who are Corpions?
I do the audio in segments. Sometimes I start speaking before the program starts recording. Thanks for watching.
Nobody pronounces his last name correctly. Ahbs
Hé IS underated and hé IS very good but uli jon Roth IS a légend
Have seen them many times and they never disappoint, 1st time was Blackout.
One of my favorite bands!
Thanks for your comment and for watching.
He is very good and I've seen him 5 times live in the 80s. However, huge shoes to fill. Not only Uli Roth but also original Michael Schienker.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
"Original" Michael Schenker had not done much for the Scorps anyway.
For me it's Uli.
Thanks for the comment.
One of my all time favorites
Mine too. Thanks for watching
He is great, and so are Uli and Michael. Scorps were kick ass in those early records.
Thanks for the comment
Without a doubt he's VERY UNDER APPRECIATED. He is in my opinion one of the greatest most technical, phrase creating guitarists in Rock history. His guitar solos in ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE is in the top 5 greatest solos ever recorded.
I agree he’s one of my favorites. Thanks for watching.
Never. He is the man they needed. But Roth and Michael Schenker are far beyond. But Scorpions needed Jabs. he's definitely the guy for the direction they decided at the Time of lovedrive and animal magnetism. And he succeeded.great guitar player
Thanks for watching and the comment.
I disagree....Uli Roth is the best for the early scorpion .. newer scorpion Jabs is the best choice .... But I love Uli Roth the best .
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Gorpions?
It's pronounced "Yabs".
Thanks for the info
Loved him on Lovedrive, but I couldn't distinguish him from Michael Schenker. He was good on Animal Magnetism but GREAT on Blackout!
Yeah I learned to play guitar to the Blackout album.
Mattias is definitely amazing- and The Scorpions latest album, Rock Believer, is a modern day masterpiece.🤘🏻
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Uli Roth is the "best" guitarist they ever had, BUT Matias is the PERFECT guitarist for the Scorpions.
They have had three of the best players.
I’ll take him Hands Down over Michael Schenker!!!! Michael is such an arrogant egomaniac
I’ll agree. Thanks for watching and the comment.
It's pronounced "y" yabs!At least ger his name right.
He is the best guitarist they've had.Hes disciplined and melodic and took the band through four decades.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Ive always put Mathias right up there next to Jimmy Page, Hendrix, the rest of the truly greats. I even place him above EVH. And thats saying somethibg.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Yes he is great but no Uli Jon Roth is better!!!
The Scorpions were blessed with three fantastic guitar players.
If your flavor is into psychedelic sound, then Uli would be it.
Michael is very technical and creative.
Neither of these two guitarists could’ve brought the Scorpions to the height that they reached, only due to style. Jabs style and creativity is what took the Scorpions to the next level, and they enjoyed the game and record sales because of his playing. It’s not his solos that separates him from the other two, it’s his fill-ins that he plays throughout the songs that does it. His playing was very tasty, and memorable. Rudolph played the base of the rhythm guitar while Matthias had his own lead rhythm going on that took the song to a different level. Half the time, I was listening to his playing and missing out on the songs lyrics.
For these reasons, Matthias is the best guitar player for the Scorpions, and the fame and sales that they enjoyed ask these years.
Exactly! Thanks for the comment.
He’s great but not Uli or even Micheal, still love Mr. Jabbs though.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
I can’t think of the Scorps without Rudy with his V and Matthias with his Explorer! One of the greatest guitar duos!
I agree that is the Scorpions that is burnt into my brain.
Jon Uli Roth: Totally overrated.
Matthias Jabs: Totally underrated.
They are both a lot better than me. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Just pick up your guitar and do that solo from "Hurricane'.. do it like HE did it.. yeah. Keep practicing.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Thats such a ludicrous blasphemy, its like saying the best guitar player Ronnie Dio ever played with was Tracy G.
Not quite. Thanks for the comment.
World Wide Live still kicks ass today in my personal opinion. Mr. Jabs a better fit than his predecessors.
That's why he is still there with them after nearly 45 years.
Exactly
I tried listening to the Scorpions before him and couldn't do it, I thought they were terrible then while at the record store they were playing Blackout and I was hooked, he changed the sound of the band and made them sooo! much better
Their style has definitely changed over the years.
Matthias has always been one of my heroes! if anyone doubts if he can play Uli's solos, go listen to their performance of He's A Woman - She's A Man in Osaka 1979 and he nails the solo note for note 🦂
Thanks for watching and the comment. Is there video of that show?
@@greatguitaristoftherockera2833 Yes, there is an audience recorded version in circulation that can be found here. Not sure if June 4th is the correct date, but here it is! th-cam.com/video/4goSVTKFqVk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8IFD_de-4B95G7fe
That's the point, HE CAN EASILY PLAY ANY SOLO BY ROTH AND SCHENKER JR. There are no barriers for him!!! He came in due time, and EASILY replaced them both with his brilliant and outstanding skill, showing the world that this two were not needed by the band at all!!!
IMO, yes. He is the greatest! He has a unique sound that lets you know you are listening to the Scorpions.🦂
Thanks for watching and the comment.
I was at the Day on the Green in 85.Best concert ever.Metallica was incredible then other band it got dark and Scorpions killed it.They sounded exactly like their records.
Yeah it was a great show. I miss the Days on the Greens. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Jabs is great, any guitar player knows Uli ìs a better guitarist but my favorite album of the Scorpions with neither one but Micheal its all a matter of what you like and I do like them all
All great players for sure.
Interresting video. But your pronunciation of most of the names is really bad.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Thanks for the story. Didn’t know about schenker coming back for a short time.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
Might be the most mainstream underrated guitarists ever.
Thanks for watching and the comment.
No .Good guitar player no doubt.but schenker and Roth were better players.
Thanks for the comment.
I was at that same day on the green in 85. I was there to see Metallica but the scorpions impressed me. Seen them a few years later at monsters of rock at candle stick.
I wasn’t a Metallica fan at that point. It took me until Master of Puppets to appreciate them.
Uli Jon Roth, is the best guitar player that they ever had, but Mathias was gd for the direction that they were going in
Thanks for watching and the comment.
i love you Matthias 🥰❣️
Thanks for watching.
Before posting a video in honor of an artist, you should learn to pronounce their name correctly.
Thanks for the advice
He’s not even the second best guitarist that the Scorpions have had.

Man, we had some good new music in high school 1984.
Yes we did.
