Can we appreciate how most of the metro firearms are interesting to look at. Most of them have strong personality. Bastard has a unique magazine and an interesting magazine shake. And most magazines feature ability to see bullet count.
It's because the game is designed around playing on Ranger Mode, which limits the HUD. So you can always check your ammo while being ingame. It's a great feature and needs to be spread more widely. I just dont like this whole cluttering with the HUD.
Funny story with the duplet; I was trying to stealth past some Nazis in Black Station when I came face-to-face with one on the other side of a barrel. He didn't spot me because I was in a shadow, so I started swapping through my guns just aiming at his face when I came to the duplet, which does not have an ADS, so his head got removed
The first time I played it I was so distracted that I didn't understand its shooting mechanics until my second run, so I spent the entire time firing a single cartridge and reloading. And so on until I found a Shambler.
The original's got such lovely Euro-Jank to it, especially the Shambler (which was called the Automatic Shotgun in the original, basically nothing had unique names save for the Kalash rifles and the Bastard)

As much as i love every metro game the one thing i will say 2033 has a unique magic for is the way the player interactions with items just feel more grounded, they dont feel like use buttons they feel like real objects you stumble with, gasmask filters are not a cumulative timer, they have life *per filter* so if your not keeping track you can easilly pick up and keep one filter with 1 or 2 mintues time left instead of another with 10, grenades feel legitimately dangerous to both the enemy AND the user as the "Light, aim, throw" cycle requires plenty of interaction and allows for plenty of user error, simply put you will blow yourself up at some point in your first playthrough because you forgot you lit the fuse or paniced and held onto it to long. the fireing sounds changeing between ammo types is more prominant, feels more like collecting rounds to stick in a gun than a "Counter up to 180 total" this is boosted by the fact theres no carry limit. also enemys with armor are legitamately scary as heck because they will tank mags of ammo where normal solders die in one or two shots but the fact the armor is actually based on physics based plates allows player creativity
The Bastard is probably my favorite. There's just something about crude pipe submachine guns that make them cool af, especially the sten and sterling smgs.
man I miss the bayonet feature on the shambler 😢 really strange that you don’t get the option for bayonets on more of the Metro’s firearms seeing as the primary threat to human life ( besides other humans ) are nightmarish Melee mutants Would make sense to be able to stab them when you eventually run out of your limited ammo
ive always thought similar, bayonets seem like they should be more common in universe considering the fact that it would not require much resource wise to make them in the first place

Abzats (Heavy Automatic Shotgun) is cursed weapon, as well as Bastard (Symbolic because of frequent problems) and Kalash 2012 (P90 with 5,45×39mm support) .
Well bastard is built on principles of cheap ww2 era SMGs. Abzats seems to be built on principles of LMG, eventhough its not suitable, still possible. Ak 2012 is the weirdest here, because barrel length and magazine complexity make it almost inappropriate.
In theory anything .50 caliber could be re-barreled and smoothed to support 12ga and still function. However I wouldn’t think there is anywhere near enough power to cycle the DshK bolt, you would have to do some advanced fudding to get it to cycle. It is though, very possible and within the realms of reality. The Bastard is just a really really inefficient way to design a SMG, but similar magazines have been designed for… WWI and II era LMG’s. Whoever let someone design and manufacture the Bastard should be fired and the replacement design Sten guns and Pps-43 clones. As for the 5.45 P90… yea that is complete fudd lore.

Fun fact: In the Oblivion Lost 2010 mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (PC retail v1.0005), you could get a camo AK-74M with a bakelite mag just like Artyom's non-Redoink one (but I don't recall if it had witness slots). Also, "Artyom" was one of the first names NPCs can have in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. Edit/Note: I nicknamed the revolver the "Buntline Special" when it's got either the extended barrel or the carbine conversion with iron sights.
The original Metro was my first Metro game, and I ran it on an old laptop, which apparently had big issues running it. Didn't have enough RAM. So all the guns that you showed here were firing super slow. Feeling nostalgic watching it.
The VA I miss the most is whoever played the kids in the original game. They weren’t perfect, but they were serviceable. In Redux it’s blatantly just a grown man trying to sound like a child. All of the English VA for kids in Redux straight up sound like small Mexican men. It’s so, so off-putting.
Yeah, same here. I'd give up anything for Artyom to still wear his tattered fingerless gloves. They just fit so perfectly. Additionally, Artyom's original VA, Oleg Mirachnikov, did such a good job voicing him.
All the weapons in this game just feels good firing them, the sound effects feel very heavy and loaded, just pure ASMR hearing the guns and their respective idle/loading animations.
Uboinik/Shambler is such a fun and interesting design in this game, i hated knowing how it was simplified in Redux. A lot of weapons in 2033 have a ton of personality

It depends on the difficulty but the reserve ammo is much higher compared to Last Light and Redux. Don't quote me on it but you can get like 500+ reserve ammo for 5.45mm guns.
There is no limit to ammo capacity. I used to walk around with more than 1500 Tihar ball bearings and 600+ dirty 5.45 bullets in my pocket. The one exception is that you cannot carry more than 100 Helsing arrows at a time, and I'm pretty sure that is a bug.

It's a lot easier to use compressed air PvP tanks and meaningless ammo in excess because it weighs less and has less volume of space and areinternally susupressed 4.500 psi automatics

Thing is that way this game is practicly impossible to mod, if you want something like that then someone would need to build the whole thing from the ground up
For PC third party re-sellers or sail the seven seas. Console copies are easier to find if you have one. Also if you can't run the Redux forget the original. It was notorious for it's poor optimazitaion on pc.
from aatmosphere you can tell, the dim the dark on the original 2033 looks better compare to redux and have more horror tone and the removed enemy in redux "plated nosalis". but without the flaw tho, the game encourage you to take consequence for not blindly kill everyone, but give a lack option to do stealth unlethal takedown. overall great game tho.. both of them redux and original

Metro 2033 Original is better than redux in my opinion, Original game is realistic and good detail from armor to gas mask, I beat all Metro series (except exodus my PC is 12+ year) in hardcore ranger 2033 Original is the hardest of all.
I like how you can still see the stalker dna in the stiffer animations, it gives them a certain vibe

Non of the later games captured the same athmosphere as the original 33, truly the favorite of the whole series

I actually never noticed that the firing pin hit the primer for the revolver. That's actually a really neat detail for its time.
You can tell the OG kalash still has X-Ray/Stalker ties, the front sight post for example is identical (same texture and modeling)
kalash 2012 with scope and silencer really carried me throughout the game, its just too good.

How high the ammo reserve limit in the original version? 180 of 12 gauge shells is pretty insane.

Bruh, this will never happen. The best "Anomaly" experience you can get in metro is Kshatriya DLC for Last Light.
modding the metro games is not really a feasible thing its alot of on the spot actual *Stuff* and very few carry over or looped assets/scripts
