    Those are all good options. HCAL might lack a bit of diversification but XIU and the others fill that gap. A quick look at other opportunities: XUU is total market U.S. and XAW is an ex-Canada ETF holding around 52% S&P and then other large cap stocks from around the world. This was a great round up. Many investors with 10+ years before retirement would greatly succeed with a blend of just about any of your picks.

    Hey Adrian great video, what's your opinion on an index funds that pay a dividend example (ZCN) vs (HXT) which does not but has over performed ZCN all time and inception dates are 1 year apart. Cheers

    • @basseon
      @basseon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comparing ZCN (240 CAN titles on 260) and HXT (60 biggest titles in CAN) is like comparing the S&P500 to the total US market. They're almost the same. HXT doesn't distribute dividends (they reinvest it) so it helps a bit in having a higher total return. They do this to be advantageous if hold in a non-registered account for tax purposes. But if you hold it in a registered, it has no real impact. Doing so also allow them to have a much lower MER than their competitor for the S&P/TSX60: XIU (0.04% vs .18%).

    I'm starting to get my allocations and strategies down. My main holds are VEQT VFV VDY HCAL, XEI and i caught SRU.UN at $23.50 to name a few. Do you think it would be a good idea to allocate a small amount to XIC to capture the TSX index as a whole/for extra divs, granted some overlap, or do you think VDY/XEI/HCAL covers Canada just fine? thanks!

  • @basseon

    HXQ has lower MER because it doesn't give any dividends (that's my assumption). They reinvest it all, and if you compare the total return of HXQ and the Nasdaq100, HXQ is slightly higher because of this.

    1.vfv 70-80%

    Would it make sense to dump all my money in these 2 etfs in a RRSP account?

    Adriano, "Canadian Dividends" are generally taxed at a lower rate than "Non Eligible Dividends". My question is do ETF's that give dividends on the TSX considered "Canadian Dividends", or do the ETF's need to have Canadian companies in them to be considered "Canadian Dividends"? Salute!

    • @PassiveIncomeInvesting
      @PassiveIncomeInvesting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      eligible come from Canadian companies basically . if an ETF has many stocks and companies in different regions, it will have multiple sources of income, which can be seen on the tax breakdown on their websites

    Great video! You made a comment that you would stay equities the entire time. I am going to assuming this also means when you go beyond 60+ years of age... I am curious on your rational on that, obvously a large percentage of people use bonds to counter the swings when in retirement and I personally feel bonds are not what they used to be. You have a specific strategy that would account for the larger down years like a GIC ladder and having 5 years worth of income safe or everything would be invested and you would just sell as needed?

    • @northshorehighlanders6167
      @northshorehighlanders6167 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In retirement, income means a lot more than growth. There's no guarantee "growth" will grow plus its unrealized results (plus or minus) - there's no retirement enjoyment until you cash out. Bond yields pale in comparison to carefully chosen dividend ETFs. I've gone this ETF route, with results way beyond my expectations. For all the comments complaining about sacrificing growth for income, (maybe not with this particular video), it's another way of saying less risk to my capital. Stage in life dictates priorities and style, including in investing. Great video. Thanks.

    • @PassiveIncomeInvesting
      @PassiveIncomeInvesting  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes i would. its simple, they always outperform fixed income + covered call ETFs are a great and better replacement of classic fixed income stuff IMO of course , higher yield + more tax efficient . GICs are the worst . so many alternatives

    • @ShortTermOptions
      @ShortTermOptions ปีที่แล้ว

      Why are GICs the worst ? For example TD Canadian Banking & Utilities GIC Guaranteed Minimum Interest Return is 10%
      Maximum Return is 50% for 5 years and for 3 years Guaranteed Minimum Interest Return is 3% Maximum Return is 30%. Also you don’t loose any money.

    • @CanadianBi-WeeklyInvestor
      @CanadianBi-WeeklyInvestor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ShortTermOptions typically it's because they under perform against inflation. It's a good way to preserve capital but not a great way to grow that money ahead of inflation.

    • @BigGroupHug
      @BigGroupHug ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leveraged ETFs decay a little bit every day, useful if you buy when the underlying equities have sold off.
      So TQQQ moves with more volatility than QQQ and over a year, does not perform as aggressively because of the decay.
      Also. Leveraged ETFs have higher expenses fees. Which drag the stock even more over a long duration hold.

    • @PassiveIncomeInvesting

    • @yongyea-hf4vl
      @yongyea-hf4vl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@efullname oviously this depends on which stocks and funds you compare. Generally speaking, income funds perform the worse but the upside is you get more dividends each payout. It's the same as saying Would you rather have $1/day for 1 month or $50 after the month? If you can wait, $50 is more but if you need that dollar and could spend it, you go with the $1 but you will be getting less overall.

      ENCC is half pipelines, and half large cap E&P.
      Unfortunately, not all the stocks in the ENCC portfolio have good option premium, and the returns don't seem to outweigh the under performance compared to the HXE fun from the same ETF company.
      Also, the yield fluctuates and is not guaranteed. If you want yield, buy ENS, if you want energy growth, then just buy CNQ+SU+MEG+ENB and skip the ENCC
