The greatest American Spinto tenor and great Italian Spinto Soprano sang together 50 times live in this Country, in both opera and concerts, they first sang together in S.F. Calif. opera in 1955 in this role, and also last in this role on Dec, 15, 1970. RIP. Tebaldi and Tucker .

Tucker had the largest Bb and B natural I heard at the MET, and I heard some of the best in the 70s and 80s.

Yes he did, once Domingo mentioned it saying that high B was the largest he ever heard in the opera house, and also I did see so many of the biggest names as far back as the middle and late 1950's. Neil Shicoff told me much the same thing, as what Domingo had said about Tucker, but more important was that back then Tucker had great spinto beauty and power both, volume is great, but if not beautiful, then it's just noise.

Tucker seems to be be a perfect Chenier, which was a great role for him.The spinto tenor category, is my favorite because of the tenors ability to sing lyric and with dramatic inflection as well. Tucker is an excellent example of thee spinto tenor. A great steady vocal line, beautiful Quality, great high notes and intelligent interpretation. R.I.P.

He had it all, voice and the singer himself. This role and Forza for me are his two best, though he loved Manon Lescaut, his favorite opera and singing it back then in the 1950's with Tebaldi, a favorite partne of his in it. She called him "Mr. Terrific" saying "he had roses in his throat" RIP.

Of course this is so great it ranks with the best live of all time, with two of the greatest voices, one from Italy, the greatest Italian soprano in her time, one of the greats of all time, and the other an American Jewish Cantor who became the greatest American tenor in his time and one of the greatest in all recorded history. RIP. Tebaldi and Tucker.

@@sugarbist She did like him and they always got along on and off stage well, and one night after he sang with her, as she left the opera house, she stuck her head in Tucker's dressing room saying "Good night Richard" and he answered "good night Renata" What is sad is that thought they sang a lot together in many cities, they never recorded anything for any studio recording together, I suppose because of studio contracts, later Columbia lent Tucker out to RCA, so we got him with both Moffo and Price, but not with Tebaldi.
