    As others have stated, the 'A' and 'M' on the stickers refer to automatic or manual transmissions. The pictures of the gearboxes and their oil specifications are completely different (as you would expect), and the 'M' sticker also includes clutch details. What really both amuses and astounds me though is how you point to (or create) great holes in some rust-ridden, integral component of the bodywork and say, "that's easily fixed". To someone like me, who regards a minute stone chip in the paint under the front bumper as a major catastrophe, your confidence and ability to produce a superb restoration are nothing short of miraculous. Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

      Brilliant thanks. Need to make a few changes. These are the test ones so its great showing them and having the errors identified now so Gary can edit them before they go on ebay. Yeah before i bought welder i was the same. Welding is actually the most satisfying job to do for me, cutting out nasty rust and replacing with lovely new metal. Welding isnt hard, its just that when it goes wrong you just need to understand why it went wrong and try again

    Started watching your channel a couple of weeks ago and finding it fascinating. Like many I suppose, a Rover SD1 was a part of my past. My father had a white 2600 (UBA 115S) registered in November 1977. I think it was about 18 months old when he bought it. It wasn't long before it was showing rust everywhere and he had a lot of bodywork done and a complete respray. Several months later the rust was showing again and he sold it no too long afterwards. Seeing you clearing out the boot of the V8-S made me feel a little guilty. Clearing out my father's house and garage last year after his death in 2021 I threw away several items from his Rover, Including the pair of boot floor carpeted boards, a load of fuses and bulbs and a set of spare number plates. Thankfully nothing too important, but I certainly would have donated anything of use had I known about your work.

      Some of the stories about rust on the early cars is really pretty shocking. I think only Alfa were worst in that period. Series 2 cars built in Cowley Oxford were really very good. Shame

    Back in the late 1990s, early 2000, Tesco was using a carrier bag that would break down. I think potato starch was incorporated into the polymer. They were not around for long. I recall putting some bags in a drawer in the kitchen to reuse later, and when I did reuse them at the supper market, they disintegrated, depositing my shopping all over the floor. If you kept them for too long, they would just fall apart making a right dusty mess.

My mum had a series 1 V8 auto in brown with a tan vinyl roof and full Webasto sunroof that my brother and I would have our heads stuck out of whenever it wasn’t raining( god bless the early 80s when nobody cared 🤣) can still remember the reg number WOW 107T . My Mums friend had a beautiful V8 s in Triton green with the gold wheel but I think his was a series 2 as it had the chrome trims around headlights and different dash etc his had a pale green interior And had cruise control and ac and the more modern front bonnet badge where as my Mums had just an alloy badge. Thanks for keeping these lovely cars on the road, SD1 s where a great part of my child hood❤️😁👍👍

    To remove those stubborn Phillips head screws on the fuel pump, First spray them down with some penetration spray, then get yourself a decent fitting Phillips screwdriver, place it nice and level and then give the top of it a whack with a small hammer. This not only will enable a good purchase into the Phillips screw, but the force of the hit will shake the rust loose and believe me, they will come off.
    I have been down this road many times and it always works.

    The bonnet sticker on the green bonnet was slightly different to the replacement sticker. In the box for the brake fluid, it has 2 icons showing. One looks like a separate master cylinder. Also the green bonnet sticker has a different information box in the bottom right hand corner with an "Important" heading. The sticker on the bronze bonnet was the same as the replacement one. This probably explains the different part number.

    Agreed about those stickers. They look amazing! I played spot the difference for you: That sticker, 3rd panel along at the top (the one about the gearbox) has different text in it - and the diagram is slightly different. looks like the fill point is somewhere different. Looks like 'barn find' is just a generic term for a car that's been squirrelled away somewhere then uncovered in a derelict condition, so our wannabe pedant can bog off:
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_find

    • @nitrosilvia
      @nitrosilvia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha excellent research on the barn find term. Another pedant said when I was zapped by the ht lead that I hadn’t been electrocuted or I’d be dead. I could t be bothered to reply

    • @hydorah
      @hydorah ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nitrosilvia Haha! Yeah these pedants think they gain some kind of superiority thorough their corrections I suppose. You know it's weird some people can share information and we can change our opinions based on that with no problem. And some other people are "Erm, I think you'll find that's a..." Kind of annoying pedant style. Anyway electrocution guy is only half right, it's being injured or killed. Not only fatal shocks are electrocutions. Man, can't even get quality pedants these days

      I owned a SD1 for 11 years and miss the blighter , but I know the fitting of the fuel tank is a fiddly job , I tracked down one of the last original replacement tanks in Australia , and ended up fitting a inline fuel pump and using the old assembly with the pump bypassed. It went like a charm. I had a engine fire caused by the SU carburettors , ended up fitting a Offen Houser low rider manifold and a Rochester Quadrajet , again finding parts in the nineties was a different challenge , I sourced and fitted a series 2 bonnet ( Nos ) which looked as nice and factory . I sold it to a friend twenty years ago ..wish I had it back

      That’s a weird one? The only thing I can suggest is borrow a know good sender. Unplug your wiring from top of tank and plug it to new sender then manually manipulate the float and see if it does the same. Then at least you know if it’s the sender or the gauge?
