good stuff man, been enjoying my AF1S for a few weeks, took out the bottom washers and their perfect. Keep the vids coming, very enjoyable props from Canada!
Thanks for the video! I like your reviews! As for bushings - stock ones will become harder after brake in period. Thats the most important tip - just skate them. Imho, stock ace bushings (classics) are better than indy, thunder and venom.
Thanks man - I really appreciate it! I tried the stock bishings in the classic ACEs for a good while, but for me it’s always a weight issue. For someone else near my weight who likes loose trucks it might be fine, but I like a tighter fee in general!
My AF1 bushings both top and bottom cracked/tore in one month. Pivot cups are holding up but I soap them often (many folks tearing them but luckily not me). I have three sets of 66's all of which show poor quality casting (axles slightly off center with the hanger machined to fix the mistake). That said the AF1's are my favorite truck to date. I use Riptide 80a APS longboard barrel bushings boardside and a bones 91a cone up front and a 96a in back (front truck turns ahead of back for stability). My bowl setup has a 15.25" wheelbase with a .25" riser and 56mm 99a f4 classics.
Wow, that’s really bad that the OG bushings split and so early too! Seems like you put a whole science behind your bushing setup, I like that! Any chance you also ride other boards (freeride / DH etc)? I agree, besides the bushings not being right for me - I really like end thoroughly enjoy the AF1s! Your bowl setup sounds like fun - what deck do you ride?
@@MarcoEckhardt Thank you. I got into hill bombing a bit and even picked a longboard but decided I can get a similar thrill riding pools with less risk and travel time. My bushing setup comes from a recent affinity for loose trucks and turning the board effortlessly by looking at my destination with my front shoulder leaning out to initiate the turn. Riptide APS has a soft middle with good push back. Bones has plastic caps bonded to them which make them push back hard at the end. My deck is made in Peoria AZ by AZ Laminates (instagram). The bottom layer is formica like a kitchen counter top. Its a 9" shaped deck which has a squared off tail and is widest just behind the front truck. Steep kicks with medium concave. Skating DKL rubber grip. I cruise this same setup by swapping to Ricta Clouds 56mm 78a wheels.
@@frankface7288 that sounds dope! Going for local and more specialized gear is such a cool thing! Gotta get one of the companies in Finland again to make me a custom deck again (napalm customs). I have a bit of the same issue with DH. Here in Finland are almost no hills anyway and the ones where you could freeride / DH are such an effort to get to. That’s why I stick with “regular “ skateboarding!
For something out there but a little more expensive how about the Avenue Suspension trucks? Thanks also for the tip on the Doh Doh hard white bushings to use with Ace trucks. I'll keep that in mind when I get them.
I’ve heard about the Avenue trucks and only seen some videos. Can’t really tell If thats only a gimmick or actually useful^^ I also haven’t seen any skateshop / bigger online shops that carry them. Glad I could help - I hope you enjoy the Aces! Also, a quick update - the Doh Dohs have been living in my AF1s now for about 6 weeks and feel great since the beginning. Not blowing out or changing shape etc.(which happens with many trucks standard bushings)
@@MarcoEckhardt Many thanks for the update on the hard Doh Doh bushings for the Ace AF1s. Great to hear they're holding up well. I'll look into them. I had the orange doh doh bushings and they got deformed on me but then I'm a portly rider. Maybe Destructo Trucks or Theive trucks can give you a different experience? I think though their trucks only go up 8.6" boards.
The aces reduce the wheelbase enough for me to notice, the re-threading tool did fix an old pair of indy's that I thought were ruined. Very good, balanced video. Thank you
i might know that next board, it's probably heroin skateboard the giallo serie, maybe the dead dave from that one. for the ace classics, i'm also big (around 95-97kg) and the bushings were good, just that the cup are too little and they get stuck and tear in them, so i changed the cups but kept the bushings, my 9 inch classic ace is probably my favorite trucks, but my indy 169 is also my favorite trucks ... hard to tell ! definitely not venture i like the turn.
Well that guess was spot on 😅 Just wait for the griptape artwork my wife did on it! Nice to hear that we have the same taste in trucks - I sometimes question myself how I only rode Venture as a teenager almost 20 years ago. I guess when you are young nothing really matters in skating. Since I made the change to Indy I feel so much more comfortable on my board. Actually anything feels better than Venture for most skating, Thunder, Indy and Ace for sure! The only thing I like about Ventures is the pop due to the geometry and wheelbase.
@@MarcoEckhardt my first three pairs of trucks were also ventures and i know why : cheaper than indy at the time, more stable, good pop. I bought the new winko too because of your previous video, the concave is hurting and the wb a bit long even at 14.5
@@mulldriftyr same here - I had blue ones, red ones and silver ones :D Wow - you got your hands on a Winky? I didn’t get lucky with the last release, hence the Heroin board! Shape is similar and also 2 wb options. The shorter one is ca 14,28”, which is gonna be nice. Gotta keep my eyes open for any new Santa Cruz boards coming in late summer - I really miss my Winky already!
I did with the Classics but nothing changed. But honestly I believe you, for most riders it’s gonna be this way. For me, any OG bushing (Indy, ACE, Thunder, etc.) are all too soft. I try them every single time, and then after 5 minutes of embarrassing wobbling at the skate park I sit there and shamefully replace them with heavy boy bushings :D For me it’s a weight thing and the fact that I like tighter feeling trucks. I was very happy that with the 98a Doh Dohs, the feel is still super carvey and turns are great, while being stable around the center point. Perhaps it’s not as bad with more narrow trucks, but 66s or 169s etc are so wide that they also have more leverage to squish soft bushings. Anyhow - I know what works for me due to trial and error and that’s cool! Thanks for your comment, I’m sure it helps plenty of people that are unsure about the bushings in the beginning!!
@@MarcoEckhardt Ok, I understand. Good for you that you have found a set up that works for you. I'm really happy with the ace og bushings but when it comes to indys I always change to bones. But after I have broken in several ace trucks, indys with bones bushings feels really unstable. Thx for your videos btw. Cool with someone from the nordic countries. /Jakob from Sweden
Hi guys, how do you compare Ace Classic bushings to AF1? Is there any difference on carving feeling? I found good deal for Classic 66 but wondering if there is any reason to go with AF1 77 for 9.25 and 9.5 deck with beginner skills on bowl and vert carving. What do you think?
@@maxpiasecki5674 hi! Tbh - I didn’t fee a huge difference between the classics and AF1 bushings, but they are also just not for me due to my weight and preference. If you are a lighter / average skater (below 85kg Perhaps) you can surely manage. And in any case, if you don’t like the bushings, they are fairly cheap to replace and try others. I definitely enjoy the AF1s a lot and can recommend them, but preferences are always different. Maybe you know a friend who has either and you could try them out. If not - neither of those trucks are a bad choice!

Mostly because of the specs they claim regarding using sustainably sourced materials and also because of the look. I’ve heard mostly positive reviews - so I wanted to try them. Definitely a great shoe in my experience.

159 indy = 66 ace af1??
I got some AF1 66 Aces, they are 9“ wide if I‘m not wrong. So they are between 159 (8,75“) and 169 (9.125“).
But feeling is waaay more loose in ACEs.
