I also love to watch you unwind and/or play along with songs as you analyze them. As a musician, it's great to watch YOU in your master craft. Thank you so much for your content.

Its pretty amazing how Brendon developed his vocal style
His voice changed, but he always sang beautifully and powerfully. Its easy to find amazing vocal parts in every album. How he cares about his voice will give him longevity in the industry (as you can already see with his Broadway stuff)

Bands like Panic! at the Disco were very big when I was a teenager. I was never a huge fan of him then, but as time goes on my appreciation of Brendon's sheer musicianship has really made me grow to love him. I was too preoccupied with irrelevant things like "image" and "genres" and I missed out on some great stuff. I imagine a lot of young folks are in that position. My advice would be to just listen to what you enjoy and leave the rest for the losers to worry about lol

I can't believe no ones pointing this out, panic is NOT Brendon Urie's solo project. The band was founded by Ryan Ross and Spencer Smith, and I only found Brendon when they needed a guitarist because Ryan struggled singing and playing guitar at the same time, but after hearing Brendon's voice they decided to make him the lead singer. Most of the songs on the first 2 albums were written by Ryan and Spencer (including I write sins), but in 2009, Ryan and the bassist left and started a new band called the Young Veins, but they split after 1 album, and after 1 more album with just Brendon and Spencer, Spencer left and since it has pretty much been just Brendon and others have come and gone. The band pre-2009 is a completely different band with completely different song writers to post-2009, only the front man stayed the same and that's seen as enough to be considered the same band for some reason lol

Thanks for the content, Justin. I really enjoy it and share it frequently with my musician buddies. I’d love to see a series where you try to write an emo(or any genre) song in a certain amount of hours. Sending love from the US.

Hi Justin..the antics the lead singer engaged in does remind me of Tht Cardiacs..my band supported The Cardiacs many years ago..we were blown away by them...the music was so tight and the stage act was so funny I was crying with laughter as the band opened presents and spontaneously cried as one of the band took a lead solo..such a clever band..oh and they all had pudding bowl wonky haircuts..so pleased they finally got recognised...btw Panic at the dico sound excellent..Great to hear melody again

It is because he is such a good vocalist on top of his guitar skills. I try to preach constantly to guitarists that don't want to learn to sing to at least attempt to learn to sing your intervals. It unlocks everything and makes playing things by ear (even extended chords with some practice) second nature.

There are so many retro tropes in that new Panic song. The good old chord I - vi and the intro hook remind me of The Ronettes classic “Be my Baby”.

Yes! Do an episode on Jellyfish. While you are doing that mention the current project that 3 of them (Roger Joseph Manning Jr., Eric Dover, and Tim Smith) are doing called "The Lickerish Quartet". Jellyfish is one of those bands that seems to be a favorite of musicians. They were a band that never broke to the mainstream. Too bad, they are amazing.

There are similarities in the chord progression between this song and the Foo Fighter's 'The Pretender'! But 'I Write Sins, Not Tragedies' was released *first* , I believe!? And strangely enough, this song had popped into my mind only very recently and in connection with a live performance from many moons ago where the singer was unable to hit those high 🎶"Agaaaaaiiiiinnn!"🎶 notes and instead went for something lower that didn't even fit! 🙈😆 And he sounds exactly like the Fallout Boy singer (to me)! And "god" was muted in the exact way in one of *their* songs, too! 😄

I only know about this band from MTV and the radio.
At some point, someone said to me "You know the other guy is the real singer..." - (or something) - and I thought / wow. Crazy. So, they just parade this other band member as the lead singer because he's more canadian-hot? (for the time). Weird move... but not unheard of.
Later I saw a music video where (it appeared) the real singer was now more visible. So - for half my life I had this whole story in my head - but watching this made me revisit it. It turns out... that I thought "Fall out boy" and "Panic at the Disco" were the same band - but that at some point, they allowed the real singer to be the front man in the videos. So. Yeah. Anyway. They are different bands and different people. Thanks? For helping me clear that up? Or does Fall out boy do that with their singer... back down the rabbit hole... Why is this in my brain!?

There's some great insights into music on this channel. Would like to see the Jellyfish video when it gets made.
Following on from the point about differences between American and German culture with censorship: it's interesting how many bands are legendary in America but don't have the same following in the UK or Europe. Jellyfish are one and the Cars plus Cheap Trick are two other great bands I can think of. Musicians are the only people I know who tend to appreciate them in the UK.
