Hangtime2 is a series of 6 nonstandard strafe maps made by NaturalSpringWater.
You will find a lot of unique, previously unseen tricks there. Passing through all of them without fails is a real challenge requiring a lot of patience and concentration. The more challenging, the more interesting it is. Skilled players will find many new tricks, whilst newbies gonna get a good reason to improve their skills.
Winners in VQ3 and CPM physics will be determined by the least total time on all six maps.

Absolutely beautiful. I recently started getting back into DeFrag because no game these days gives me (personally) the same satisfaction of spending hours to finally complete that perfect run. The feeling of self gratification from being so dedicated and committed to proving to yourself that you CAN do it far outweighs any stupid achievement any game currently dishes out. No reward for completing a map?? Pffff, why bother right!? :P Thanks for releasing this and reinvigorating my thoughts that DeFrag is still alive and kicking less than one month from 2015. If only everyone could appreciate how much skill, patience and dedication these runs require.

I don't know how many times i've seen this video by now, but what i know is that this video compiles all the best of what defrag can give: skill, competition and great, great maps, all together with a great edition and music. Best defrag video ever. -- wrk.
f*cking amazing. Even after years I appriciate every DeFrag movie. Love it. Quake Champions should have such a community, because it has so many movement styles already. Would be a blast.
Sadly the issue is there are no map making tools for Champions. If there were, with all the character options, the runs would be insane. Especially if modders tweaked it so the map determines what Abilities you have and when. Then there would be VQ3, CPMA, Q4 movement styles all in one DeFRaG. Man it really bums me out that it doesn't exist, i really hope they do mod tools with the next Quake, but it's not likely under Microsoft. I assume if they do a new Quake it will be a full experience like DOOM2016, so maybe we could at least get an in game editor, fingers crossed.
The contrast between vq3 and cpm movement is always so uplifting.

thanks god for strafing jumping and for not allowing it to be removed from Q3, since Carmack thought the players should always stay on the ground and run instead of (quote) "jumping around like bunny rabbits".
Even if Carmack got rid of it, it would've been modded back in anyway.

This is one of my top favorite trickjump movies! Very clean editing, good music choices, insane jumps - especially the track "Snowflakes" for starting the CPM part fits perfectly ;) Yeah and the demos are just insane - dunno how long it took the players to finish the sections flawlessly. For me, even with years of defrag experience, finishing any hangtime maps without mistakes is not possible. Anyway, good job ;)

videos of this map just doesn't do it justice, if you've never played it before you can easily spend over an hour on some of these jumps. (especially in vq3)
+MajinBacon You can't beat this map without having explicit experience in defrag. I've got around 1.500 in defrag games across warsow, ql and cpm and I don't hold the #1 time on 1 map.
yeah, 1500 hrs is pretty noob for df lol, its skillcap is insane, prolly uncapped as motherfuckers keep beating older records, took me thousands over thousands of hours (plobably over 8760 / a year of gameplay time dedicated - dont really know exactly how much, been playing q3 since release and have dedicated some hardcore years strictly to defrag) to get competitive enough to get into top times and then manage some ranks 1's in hard contested maps, and now I might have much more than that gameplay time put in, and my times keep getting better lol. The tech skill and timing needed for consistency on tricks like gbs is ridiculously hard too making it simply not possible for people to get good at maps using that no matter how many hours they put into it, kind of like what happens in sports due to physical limitations.
This is what ultimately madethese highly competitive games go out of the mainstream though - theyre too hard to get into when eveyone that keeps playing is ages ahead of you in experience, you need balls to get into a game where you will have to hang in there getting destroyed for 5+years straight before getting decent (I had that experience too just cause of q1 and q2 veterans - never played those competitively)
I think people who never played defrag (or similar games) before have no clue how insanely hard this is.
i dont think thats true. been playing for at least more than 10 hours of defrag i can barely even do one of those huge jumps
@@tehpeasant I had a friend who has been playing Quake 3 along side me now since 2001, can strafe jump etc and he can't even make the first jump in the video. The best time I could get is a half an hour to complete the whole map in VQ3, the map is just insane. I remember the first time I tried the room at 0:46 I spent 6 hours and didn't even make it.

Huh, trickjumping is Defrag sure looks a lot more interesting than trickjumping in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory...
+That one defrag is the father and king of all trickjumping/speedrunning games
I think Wolfenstein generally has much better trickjump maps tho. Defrag is 90% speed and strafing on flat ground, whereas Wolf:ET is more technique and agility.

I don't understand why CPM isn't the preferred movement for Quake Live. I only play vanilla Quake Live because that's what enough people are playing to get decent-sized games going.
Maybe it's a bit broken? Map control with CPM could get ridiculous. IDK, I've never played real CPM games, but no doubt the movement is so damn satisfying.

Man I wish I would have gotten into this back in the day I had no idea what quake was because I was stuck on other games I have played teeworlds but after seeing this teeworlds is basically just a 2d version of this which I loved racing in that game cant imagine it in this one...Does anyone know how I can get the maps and mods to do this? I have quake 3 arena installed

Read through carefully, then choose which install method works best for you.
Afterward you can use "DFengine" to launch DeFrag, or load it though Q3 --> Mods.

What types of games are these called? I've always wondered that.
Um, this game is called Quake 3 Arena. You can just strafe around and people made maps and shit and a defrag mod came out where people make maps like this where you strafe and race against other peoples times.
CS has this same thing but CS requires less skill and it's different. Quake is the best engine to strafe in.
"Oldschool shooter" would be more proper, Q3 is an old game with an even older community. It's not really a game anymore even, it's become more like a platform to experience all the things the community has done for it these past 20+ years. You don't get the same level of content, client/user freedom or a selection of tools with modern games like Quake Champions, despite it also being an "arena shooter".
