Hey Wazzee…, That really was cobbled together from misc. pvc parts and the part supplied by the tub maker. Since that time, big box stores and Amazon sell floor drain holes that can be installed in thr floor 1st and then a tub drain attachment is attached to the tub and slid into the hole. Just look for freestanding tub drains and you should find multiple options. Away better design than what we had to use. Hope that helps.
To those seeking insight on this topic. Never, EVER use a flexible corrugated drain fitting. I don't know of any plumbing code that would allow such a thing. I don't care if they come with the tub or not, it's a bad idea. I have torn out several like this under kitchen sinks. BAD idea. There are other drain products out there that are great for second floor freestanding tub installations which have no access from below. Use them. This is a good example of why folks should NOT rely on TH-cam alone for "how to" do something.
this also makes me uneasy, seems like flexible lines are too thin and will dry rot over time and leak. I'm wondering what a good alternative would be? any suggestions?
@@aca15246 Flexible corrugated drain fittings are a disaster waiting to happen. NO store should sell them, EVER. @@Jonnyvids14 You're right! I'm an overseas plumber and they seem to use those things in a bunch of other countries. I've never seen one installed in the US myself. They catch all sorts of nasty crap in them. Ewww!
What he should have used is a OS&B Freestanding tub flage it sints flush on the floor and gasket makes the seal between the flange and the pipe we use it all the time in plumbing.
My builder left about a 1/2 inch gab from her bottom of the tub to the floor. I looked underneath and they sprayed it with foam. Should I have the builder lower the tub to the floor?
Hey Elsa, Not sure if your tub has adjustable “legs” (typically used for getting it level) or if the spray foam expanded and lifted the tub. Minimum - the gap should be covered. Or the tub gets lowered. The gap isn’t normal on a freestanding tub. Hope that helps. Thx for watching!
How is the seal around the bottom of the free standing tub? Is is holding up from daily use, and has there been in any moisture build up, under the inside or any other issues? - Thank You
My tubs cold water isn't working. When I turn it on it's only hot. When I turn to cold it turns off. Any idea what it could be? Already replaced the cartridge.
Hey Stay.., That is odd. Still sounds like a cartridge issue since that typically controls temp. Maybe contact cartridge manufacturer and see if they have suggestions. Thx for watching!
Thanks for this informative video! I also had a problem with a pinched flex pipe with a pinhole leak, that I need a new shoe assembly? Where did you find your replacement flex pipe? Did it fit with your existing drain? Thank you for any help. Congratulations on your gorgeous bathroom!
Hey Sierra, Glad you liked it! We got a replacement from the manufacturer. The big problem is - they don’t fit well w/ existing plumbing. If the tub is manufactured in a different country it’s possible, if not likely, that they are in no way familiar with our plumbing code or sizing and won’t fit well or at all. So we had to “make it work” through modification. It now works fine but was a bit of a hassle. We are getting ready to install a new free standing tub at another house where the drain assembly ( a free standing tub rough in kit ) is MUCH different and avoids the hassles that come with flex pipe which isn’t code in the USA. So keep an eye of fit that video. Thx for watching and commenting!
Installing my soaker tub tomorrow. I wont have any plumbing issues because its a garage under the bathroom and all the ceiling drywall was removed for full access to everything. I was wondering... when you test fitted with the 2 pieces of wood and videod with your phone, the flexible hose goes down from the bath drain hole then up quite a bit then down to the P trap. Does that part of the flexible going up cause a problem or just acts like a first p trap?
Hey Eric, Ideally, that’s not the best way. But we did what we could. If it forms an “s-trap” you could run into issues. These days they make better ways to connect - search “ free standing tub drain connect “. It’s like a coupling device. Much better than flexible house. But you still will use a p-trap. Hope it goes well! Thx for watching!
I recently bought one of these. They look nice, but I’m a little concerned with how it holds up to movement when someone bumps into to it, or if the kids are playing around in it?
Thank you for the video. While I was watching I noticed that I really like the look and color of your floor tile. Can you tell me what brand and part number it is?
If tub was set on plywood sub floor because of vinyl plank floor not going under tub, would silicone still be used or should it be a construction adhesive? Thank you
Hey Carl, A cast iron tub with water and a human in it might be over 600 lbs… but your house,if it is constructed properly, will have no issue supporting that weight. Thx for watching!
Everyone seems to be pointing out the flexible hose, and although I know their downfalls, it seems to be a decent solution for this sort of tub. Now that you've had it for 7 months, have you had any clogging issues? If not, seems like a good choice to me...
Hey Dan, Good insight. No issues and certainly don’t expect any. And IF there ever were, the tub is held in place be a simple silicone seal - accessing and repairing any issue amounts to only a little effort compared to most plumbing. Thx for your comment and view!
Hey disco…, It came with the tub. Most plumbers hate them as they aren’t code compliant. But tub manufacturers don’t know… or care. They have better drain connections these days. Thx for watching!
In fact it’s illegal in North America check all plumbing codes in US and Canada they all specifically say surface of the pipe must be smooth The accordion will trap debris and you’ll have a bad smell eventually. Bad planning not thinking ahead. For slabs or no access underneath access panel on tub needed to install correctly but than again tub will look like shit on the outside with a panel on it
@@kchicago64 well I guess when they come pull out his tub they'll see .I assume he didn't pull a permit and he doesn't give a shit.. if it becomes a problem here can just break the tub loose and install smooth pipe.. and let's be real.. no one will ever look once it's installed
I think people need to know the way the drain line drops down that much before it reaches a vent pipe is not just a technical violation. These will siphon out from improper venting (s-trap instead of a real p-trap) causing the bathroom to have a faint stink coming up from the sewer line you sometimes just can't quite identify. I've know people to think it was the after effects of their partner for years, not realizing it was just bad plumbing

Not to be negative just here to help people watching learn. You are going to have issues with that flexible pipe running uphill. Tub will drain slower and leave water in the line after it drains. I know it’s harder and takes more planning , but you should always use hard pvc pipe that’s slopes downhill and not flexible line.
Hey Jody, Thx. The flexible line comes with the tub ( with many kinds of freestanding tubs). If we had access from underneath a pvc connection would be much more doable. Nonetheless, thx for making the point.
I thought i was the only person that noticed this. Especially once he removes those 2x4 the water will basically be trying to fight gravity uphill. Other than that good job.
Hey Nevin, We left them low enough to have the sides of the tub touching or very nearly touching the floor and then added silicone bead around the perimeter to the leg feet and tub sides. Hope that helps. Thx for watching!
Currently installing this type of tub..Its sit about 1/8 of an inch off the ground...Did you reposition the feet underneath to sit flush to the floor or will applying silicone directly to the feet be enuff to hold it put?
Hey Peace, My gut reaction was “A LOT”. But, in reality, it is all how you approach it. Low cost : you do everything , cost would be tub and filler and plumbing connections or around $1500 Medium: get a handyman to demo the tub, M A Y B E even install tub - probably pay 1500 for tub and 750-1500 labor? Depending on hourly charge ($ 50/ hr?)and speed. High- hire a plumber. At $100-150 / hr or maybe get a flat price???? $1500-2500 labor. These are just guesses. We do most everything ourselves, so this is a GUESS. Do you live in California/ New York? Do you live in Kansas and have a good friend whose a plumber? How busy are they? What is your existing plumbing like ( in a slab; on a 1st floor with basement access to plumbing from underneath??) Lots and lots of variables. Best bet - get multiple quotes. Ask them to break it out the costs in quote - labor, supplies, Really impossible to estimate from where I sit. General rule of thumb is 1/2 cost or material, 1/2 cost of labor. BUT, that is VERY general. If you do go ahead with it , please let’s tell us. Many people reading would be very interested in how it breaks out. Thx for watching and asking!
Nice; been considering one of these, but concerned about tight space in the back side might be too tight of a squeeze to reach by hand for cleaning. Even if I can reach back there, can you see what you’re doing or is it by feel/trust your arm is reaching the dirty spots? Did you make a follow-up vid for cleaning the back side? Traditional tubs has only front side so this feels like twice the work to clean, just curious. Thx
Hey patimuse, Because the tub filler / faucet is behind the tub, there really seems to be plenty of room to get back there. And as the tub is curved, you can see quite easily along the back side of the tub. Maybe a little more work than a regular tub, but they really add to the look of the room. Trade-offs I guess. Thx for watching!
Hey Chris, It came with the tub. It is a non-standard drain so USA plumbers hate it. Seems like where some of these tubs are made, they do not have same plumbing codes - thus some different ideas about drains. Thx for watching!!

If your working with a foundation subfloor. The hot and cold line will be to long. You will have to get a 27inch line ordered from the manufacturer. Trust me ! If you notice every video is installing from a second floor home.
Good Video. Do workmen have to rip out the tiles in a pre-existing bathroom if the only thing I want to install is a free standing bathtub in a totally (except for floor tiles) empty space?
Hey Suzanne, The main concern is your drain for the water and supply for the hot and cold water. Somehow you need to know where you main bathroom drain runs. You’ll have to connect to that and that can be anywhere in the floor or walls leading to the floor below if upstairs. No - Workman don’t have to do it if you want to learn and do. In our case we had a plumber run the drain before we tiled the floor. We ran the supply because we re-plumbed the whole house. It could be expensive, but I guess all that is relative to your circumstance. Hope that helps! Thx for watching.
stop valves don't belong inside floors or walls, as they need to be accessed to service the faucet. they are also prone to dripping. That flexible drain is prone to clogs and leaks. It should never be used. It does not pass code in many places.
Hey JJ, They were just put in place to save time running 3 sets of stairs to the basement while renovated the bathroom. Obviously they are in the permanently open position. The manibloc in the basement controls all the supply lines. Thx for the input.
Hey Growler..., There is a ring surrounding the shaft of the tub filler/faucet that is about an inch deep. So that becomes the clearance issue. You may also need to check the under-floor structure as that may have something to say about running plumbing to your perfect spot. Short answer in our case - an inch or two. Thx for watching!
I installed my free standing tub just as you did. I leveled the legs and I ran lots of silicone on the base skirt. A month later, someone sat on an edge of the tub and it popped loose. Can the skirt be removed, bolted to the ground, and the tub dropped into the skirt?
Hey Wally, Ours did not have a skirt. The idea seems plausible. To be sure, you could contact the manufacturer and see what they think or if they have other solutions. Odds are, you are not the only person this has happened to..... Thx for watching.
I'm about to do this however we have a slightly different way of doing the drainage. My question is how well the silicone holds the bath in place. Im concerned that if it gets knocked it will dislodge.
How did you make sure you're legs were all touching the ground evenly (I have a very old house so my floor isn't even at all) and the tub wasn't just sitting on its outer rim wall?
Hey AMJolene, You could simply place some small pieces of wood under the leg/ foot that isn’t touching the floor. The big box home stores sell packs of wood door & window shims which are made of view thin wood. The could be cut smaller and used without being too obvious. Or, maybe try some clear silicone in a tube squirted under the leg/ foot. Let it dry fully before using the tub. Once dry it will fill that gap and make the tub more stable. Thx for watching!

Hi! I really like the tub filler fixture. I can’t seem to find one w/out the wand feature. Can you provide details on that fixture? Thanks!
Hey Clint ,
It was a few years back. I think it was from wayfair. Fairly generic - no major brand name - we just liked the look.
Thx for watching!
well, done! what's the part number for the bottom attachment
Hey Wazzee…,
That really was cobbled together from misc. pvc parts and the part supplied by the tub maker.
If you wrap your Teflon around a pencil end if easier to wrap it in tight spots
I was looking more for how to adjust the feet
Thanks for the informative video! Also like the light over the bathtub....what brand is it and/or where to get it? Thanks in advance.
Hey Angel,
It was an IKEA find from a few years back. Thx for watching!
There are some new products that make installation of a freestanding tub on a second floor very simple and solid. This is the one I have used on several jobs: fleurco.com/en/shower-enclosure/rapid-connect-drain
@@brianlutzak Yep
Would be helpful to know how to connect the flexible drain piece to the PVC connectors.
Hey Joseph,
It was painful - the tub makers used to do a poor job of supplying the necessary parts … so you have to go on a hunt!
Thx for watching!
My builder left about a 1/2 inch gab from her bottom of the tub to the floor. I looked underneath and they sprayed it with foam. Should I have the builder lower the tub to the floor?
Hey Elsa,
Not sure if your tub has adjustable “legs” (typically used for getting it level) or if the spray foam expanded and lifted the tub.
Minimum - the gap should be covered. Or the tub gets lowered. The gap isn’t normal on a freestanding tub.
Hope that helps.
Thx for watching!
Wrap the PTFE tape around a pencil , and then it is easy just to spin the pencil to unwind whilst the pencil is rotated around the threads
Hey ABCD,
Thanks. That’s a great tip! Wish we had that when we were putting it in:-)
Will definitely put that to use in the future in tight spots!
Thanks guys!
Hi Extreme Whitetail, sure thing, hope the video is helpful!
As a plumber he did the drainage wrong and he should have hard pipes it but he saved like 800?
Great job! I'm doing the same thing and this helps with the forward-thinking steps. Thank you!!
Hey A.,
Glad it helped! You’ll love it when finished!!

How is the seal around the bottom of the free standing tub? Is is holding up from daily use, and has there been in any moisture build up, under the inside or any other issues? - Thank You
Hey Patrick,
We used silicone. It is solid and like new today. No issues. Thx for watching.
Flexible drain uhhh. Drainage on a tub. Flexible and sharp 90s it’ll be clogging up in no time. Would never ever pass in my state
My tubs cold water isn't working. When I turn it on it's only hot. When I turn to cold it turns off. Any idea what it could be? Already replaced the cartridge.
Hey Stay..,
That is odd.
Hey Sierra,
Glad you liked it!
Hey Eric,
Ideally, that’s not the best way. But we did what we could. If it forms an “s-trap” you could run into issues. These days they make better ways to connect - search “ free standing tub drain connect “. It’s like a coupling device. Much better than flexible house. But you still will use a p-trap.
Hope it goes well!
Thx for watching!
What kind of cutoffs did u use for water source? they looked like Sharkbite crimp fittings on the hose?
Hey Dave,
We’ve used both shark bites and pex crimp. Not worried about shark bites though.
Thx for watching!
I recently bought one of these. They look nice, but I’m a little concerned with how it holds up to movement when someone bumps into to it, or if the kids are playing around in it?
lol at the pressure fittings on the tub drain. Good luck running a snake down that
Thank you for the video. While I was watching I noticed that I really like the look and color of your floor tile. Can you tell me what brand and part number it is?
Can you replace a double sink and install a stand alone tub in it's place

If tub was set on plywood sub floor because of vinyl plank floor not going under tub, would silicone still be used or should it be a construction adhesive? Thank you
Hey Joseph,
I like silicone because it’s less permanent. Gives you options down the road.
Thx for watching!
What is the tub was about 400 pounds, like a solid surface tub? Would you how to add anything for support on that exact floor you are working on??
Hey Carl,
A cast iron tub with water and a human in it might be over 600 lbs… but your house,if it is constructed properly, will have no issue supporting that weight.
Thx for watching!
Everyone seems to be pointing out the flexible hose, and although I know their downfalls, it seems to be a decent solution for this sort of tub. Now that you've had it for 7 months, have you had any clogging issues? If not, seems like a good choice to me...
Hey Dan,
Good insight. No issues and certainly don’t expect any. And IF there ever were, the tub is held in place be a simple silicone seal - accessing and repairing any issue amounts to only a little effort compared to most plumbing.
Thx for your comment and view!
Where did you get that flexible tub pipe
Thanks
Hey disco…,
It came with the tub. Most plumbers hate them as they aren’t code compliant. But tub manufacturers don’t know… or care.
They have better drain connections these days.
Thx for watching!
Some states (cities) do not allow the accordion drain pipe like you used.
Hey bgrinni1,
Quite true. Thx for watching.
In fact it’s illegal in North America check all plumbing codes in US and Canada they all specifically say surface of the pipe must be smooth
The accordion will trap debris and you’ll have a bad smell eventually.
Bad planning not thinking ahead. For slabs or no access underneath access panel on tub needed to install correctly but than again tub will look like shit on the outside with a panel on it
@@kchicago64 well I guess when they come pull out his tub they'll see
.I assume he didn't pull a permit and he doesn't give a shit.. if it becomes a problem here can just break the tub loose and install smooth pipe.. and let's be real.. no one will ever look once it's installed
Where do you put the shampoo, conditioner, and soap? Since there's no tub surround like you have in a regular tub installation?
Hey Pat,
On the window sill would work. There is a shower right next to it as well.
Thx for watching!
Thx for the input!
Can you tell me the brand/stock # for the faucet assembly?
Hi jlspier, we purchased that faucet at Wayfair. Here is some info: Double Handle Floor Mounted Claw Foot Bathtub Faucet with Hand Shower
By ANZZI
Finish: Polished Chrome
We really like that faucet! It has a few controls, which can be confusing at first. This house is now a vacation rental property.
We posted a video that shows the features:th-cam.com/video/6A5qjdX77AM/w-d-xo.html
The section for the faucet starts at the 16:46 mark.

Hey Sqeek…,

Not to be negative just here to help people watching learn. You are going to have issues with that flexible pipe running uphill. Tub will drain slower and leave water in the line after it drains. I know it’s harder and takes more planning , but you should always use hard pvc pipe that’s slopes downhill and not flexible line.
Hey Jody,
Thx. The flexible line comes with the tub ( with many kinds of freestanding tubs).
If we had access from underneath a pvc connection would be much more doable.
Nonetheless, thx for making the point.
Amazon sells those direct pipe connection that does not require access from bottom. It's about $100 (over priced).
I thought i was the only person that noticed this. Especially once he removes those 2x4 the water will basically be trying to fight gravity uphill. Other than that good job.
When adjusting the legs, How high off the floor should the tub sides or skirts be?
Hey Nevin,
We left them low enough to have the sides of the tub touching or very nearly touching the floor and then added silicone bead around the perimeter to the leg feet and tub sides.
Hope that helps.
Thx for watching!
Currently installing this type of tub..Its sit about 1/8 of an inch off the ground...Did you reposition the feet underneath to sit flush to the floor or will applying silicone directly to the feet be enuff to hold it put?
Hey Curtis,
We made the tub flush and applied silicone all the way around the base of the tub.
Hope that helps.

How much should I expect to pay to have a corner jacuzzi tub removed and have a tub like this installed?
Hey Peace,
My gut reaction was “A LOT”.
But, in reality, it is all how you approach it.
Low cost : you do everything , cost would be tub and filler and plumbing connections or around $1500
Medium: get a handyman to demo the tub, M A Y B E even install tub - probably pay 1500 for tub and 750-1500 labor? Depending on hourly charge ($ 50/ hr?)and speed.
High- hire a plumber. At $100-150 / hr or maybe get a flat price???? $1500-2500 labor.
These are just guesses.
We do most everything ourselves, so this is a GUESS. Do you live in California/ New York? Do you live in Kansas and have a good friend whose a plumber?
How busy are they?
What is your existing plumbing like ( in a slab; on a 1st floor with basement access to plumbing from underneath??)
Lots and lots of variables.
Best bet - get multiple quotes. Ask them to break it out the costs in quote - labor, supplies,
Really impossible to estimate from where I sit.
General rule of thumb is 1/2 cost or material, 1/2 cost of labor. BUT, that is VERY general.
If you do go ahead with it , please let’s tell us. Many people reading would be very interested in how it breaks out.
Thx for watching and asking!
No U trap or is it somewhere else?
Thank you sir
does anyone know how much it would be to have someone install it for me (professional) in Orange County?
Hey William,
Orange County - I could only imagine. Do yourself a favor and get multiple quotes!

Thx
Hey patimuse,
Because the tub filler / faucet is behind the tub, there really seems to be plenty of room to get back there. And as the tub is curved, you can see quite easily along the back side of the tub. Maybe a little more work than a regular tub, but they really add to the look of the room. Trade-offs I guess. Thx for watching!
@@Housebarons OK, thanks; will definitely try it as it looks awesome
Where can I find the flexible drain used in this video? Great idea!
Hey Chris,
It came with the tub. It is a non-standard drain so USA plumbers hate it. Seems like where some of these tubs are made, they do not have same plumbing codes - thus some different ideas about drains.
Thx for watching!!
@@Housebarons Can you tell me the tub manufacturer so I can try and find the flexible drain. I would really appreciate your help.

how much is the labor for that installation ?
If your working with a foundation subfloor. The hot and cold line will be to long. You will have to get a 27inch line ordered from the manufacturer. Trust me ! If you notice every video is installing from a second floor home.
What is the name of the hose/tube that you said this is the male/female, then connected it to the drain hole?
Hey Irene,
Just a drain tube. The come with the tub. Not easy to find otherwise as the stent very standard in the USA.
Good Video. Do workmen have to rip out the tiles in a pre-existing bathroom if the only thing I want to install is a free standing bathtub in a totally (except for floor tiles) empty space?
Hey Suzanne,
The main concern is your drain for the water and supply for the hot and cold water.
@@Housebarons thank you. it is a Pulte built house which will be completed next year. unfortunately, I did not get it pre-plumbed for a tab.

stop valves don't belong inside floors or walls, as they need to be accessed to service the faucet. they are also prone to dripping. That flexible drain is prone to clogs and leaks. It should never be used. It does not pass code in many places.
Hey JJ,
They were just put in place to save time running 3 sets of stairs to the basement while renovated the bathroom. Obviously they are in the permanently open position. The manibloc in the basement controls all the supply lines.
Thx for the input.
Nice job, if you don’t mind me asking what is the minimum requirement off the exterior wall for the faucet?
Hey Growler...,
There is a ring surrounding the shaft of the tub filler/faucet that is about an inch deep.
Hey Wally,
Ours did not have a skirt. The idea seems plausible. To be sure, you could contact the manufacturer and see what they think or if they have other solutions. Odds are, you are not the only person this has happened to.....

I'm about to do this however we have a slightly different way of doing the drainage. My question is how well the silicone holds the bath in place. Im concerned that if it gets knocked it will dislodge.
silicone is what holds all the stone countertops in kitchens and bathrooms . silicone is actual a very good adhesive as well as a sealer.
How did you make sure you're legs were all touching the ground evenly (I have a very old house so my floor isn't even at all) and the tub wasn't just sitting on its outer rim wall?
Hey AMJolene,
You could simply place some small pieces of wood under the leg/ foot that isn’t touching the floor.
No threaded connection should b installed behind the walls or ceiling for drain ,
How is that tub draining looks like it’s backpitched

Must just be the camera angle.
