  • cutting, grinding, and removing rusty metal from our forgotten 1972 pontiac ventura sprint project car revival. We start removing/repairing rust in an effort to get a new quarter panel, outer wheel house, and trunk extension installed on the Nova's red headed stepchild.

    Strange how bad that quarter was and how good the floors and rockers are. The 20 year hibernation was kind to this ol cruiser. Time to start hunting for a 454, I'm sure you will find one under someone's work bench, you have a talent for finding bargains. I enjoy your posts.

    You guys need to get some scrap carpet to lay under the cars with. It is so much more comfortable & cleaner than laying on the concrete. I usually use a 4x6 section that I get for free from my buddy neighbor who is a carpet installer.

      I know I know haha. My garage floor is probably doin a number on mikes back lol. The TH-cam channels health insurance isn’t very good so he can’t afford chiropractic care either. All jokes aside we have talked about the carpet idea or some rubber mats to make our lives a little better under there.

    Seeing the Ventura brought back memories. I had a red 74, straight 6 automatic transmission, no air-conditioning, I think it had power steering, and an am radio. Great car (for what it was) it had one quirk, if you hit a pothole, or a big bump, it would shift into neutral. Then you had to mess with the shifter on the column and it would go back in drive. Other than that, it was completely dependable.
    At the time it was rust free. I doubt it still exists today.

    • @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
      @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I love the quirk lol! Who knows maybe it’s still out there. Who would have thought this rusty Ventura would be canned up in a storage unit for more than 20 years!

      @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 That car had my favorite interior out of all the cars I've owned. It had a cloth interior with the black and white houndstooth pattern.
      The combination of the sparkling red paint after a wash and wax combined with that particular interior, boy, it was so pretty. 😍 ✨️

    Love it! I almost bought a 72 Ventura a few years back, but the roof was super soft under the vinyl top. It was a much bigger project than I wanted to take on. Looking back now, I should have picked it up! Looking forward to seeing this one come together.

  • @bcavmechanic
    @bcavmechanic 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great to see you do another build. Overall that car is fairly solid. It is cool that it is a standard. Those Saginaw 3 and 4 speeds are pretty decent transmissions and get a bad rap for being weak and shifting poorly. The biggest problem is the super crappy ITP shifters GM used with them to be on a budget. As you can see when you unbolted it the stupid shifters bolt to the body and or the crossmember and just don't shift worth a shit. First thing you need to do with any Saginaw is throw the stock shifter away and swap in a good Hurst. Then they will shift and hold up nice. Of course they will get damaged when you can only half way shift them with those stock shifters. They can take plenty of abuse with a descent shifter.

    Can you tell yet what are the major fifferences that won't allow Chevy equipment to bolt in? Is it just the front subframe or is every mounting hole on frame different along with wiring? All Ventura only?

    • @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
      @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everything is identical on the chassis + wiring. This car was originally sold with a Chevy 307 from Pontiac so everything Chevy is a direct bolt on.

      A Pontiac 400 would be nice but a Pontiac 455 would be even nicer!😁 My vote is definitely Pontiac power for this car. But it's your car and your wallet so ultimately it's your choice.
      Of course the 455s are harder to find so the aftermarket sells stroker cranks that fit in a 400 that can make it a 455 with a.030" overbore or you can get even more stroke to make something even bigger.🤔
      When you go to source a Pontiac block(if you do), make sure you get I think '74 might of been the year they lightened the casting so the newer blocks can't handle as much power as the older ones so '73 or older?(I'm not exactly sure when they lightened the casting but I know they did sometime in the 70s, so you might want to look that up to know for sure so you don't pass on a good deal that might be what you're looking for?)😎👍
