Tom even said in an interview, the one who taught him for the movie said "Hank is Hank and no one can replace him, but if you can convey what he wanted to say through his songs, then we'll listen... We'll all listen." And the fact that we're all listening proves, Tom succeeded.
This film portrays the career of Hiram King "Hank" Williams, and his untimely tragic death at the age of 29. Tom Hiddleston did a marvelous job portraying the country music star, as well as his singing. Elizabeth Olsen also did a fantastic job playing Audrey, Hank's first wife. The film actually made me cry happily. I'm sure Hank would've been proud. He lives on through his music, and he will forever be remembered as one of the greats. RIP Mr. Williams, I hope you're smiling down on us all.

People saying he sounds nothing like the original singer. Well, that's okay. This is his best and he did a darn good job portraying the original. I bet it was hard yet the outcome is wonderful! Hands down to Tom.. I love this guy.
People who say he doesnt sound like the original singer, probably dont understand he aint trying to sound like the original singer. Hes singing in his own voice, which is 100 times better then trying to sound like someone else. ^^
I have heard every one of Hank Sr. Songs and you are right he doesn't sound like Hank because no matter how hard you try you cannot replace Hank Sr's voice but to me it was a perfect replication of Hank Sr. So stop being hypocritical about the movie it was damn good and I am sure Hank Sr would have loved it and also Hank Jr's daughter holly said it was perfect so think on that

Imo, Tom did wonderful. I'd of preferred Hank III. But as far as I'm concerned. Tom did excellent Maybe next Hank bio, we get Hanks grandson. He is almost a spitting image anyways. And would be super cool to see him play the part
+Azul C. Hernández As an actor, it is important to play a real life figure in a convincing way. This was not the case. He's a good actor, I just don't believe he was right for the job.
I agree he doesn't sound like Hank But he does have a good voice Also him and Hank have the same facial features I still believe Hank lll should have done it But he probably can't act
Wow...Hank III was right...this doesn't sound ANYTHING like Hank Sr. At least when Joaquin Phoenix played Johnny Cash, he tried to sound like the man. They should've just pulled a Ray here and had Hiddleston lip-sync. Because while I like the guy as an actor, he doesn't even seem to be making the attempt here to sound like the man he's portraying. And since that man is primarily known for his singing, that's a pretty big hurdle.
Joaquin tried a bit TOO hard to sound like Cash. Honestly, Tom sounds pretty a-okay. I don't really like Joaquin's cover, cause you can tell that he's trying a bit too hard to be Cash, while Tom is trying, but not too much. But, eh, preference of opinion.
+That Horse That Drives a Sherman Tank Fair enough. I don't need a vocal clone, but I could hear Johnny's angst in Phoenix's croon. I don't feel Williams's lovelorn warble anywhere in Hiddleston's performance. It wasn't Hank's voice that made him a legend. It's what you could feel behind that voice. And that, sadly, is what I can't hear in these renditions.
Wow. What people do not realize, is that you can never ever directly sound like someone else. You have to portray your own version of person or artist. Otherwise, if you try to exactly be like the person your portraying right down to the last hair, you'll drive yourself absolutely mad in the process. Not only for a British guy, this man has done incredibly well to do justice for Hank Williams. He sounds similar to him... exactly like him, no. Its not about that, it's about being your original version and he done fabulous. Many people doubted his skills when he was first announced to play Hank, primarily because he is simply British. I bet anything if this man was Yank or Southern, he would have had praises. But do not forget who played Scarlett O'Hara 70 plus years ago Vivien Lee. She was British nagged the role and to this day that's a classic. If you want to judge something out of place, you can simply blame the screen writing as many have mentioned the writing to be a bit off and should of forecasted the journey to his Art, rather than to his philandering and drinking, I agree. But Tom himself, was sublime and rolled with what he was given. He spent 5 months in the South, learned how to replicate the accent, play guitar and sing, mannerisms, and the Southern charm...not to mention loosing weight. That is a hell of a lot to learn and do in such a small amount of time. Btw...Many people said that Hank's grandson should have portrayed Hank and he has even stated himself, that Matthew MacConaughey should have played him. I strongly disagree. Just because someone is blood relation, or that someone is American, does not make them suitable to play the part sorry to those extremists...but acting is a pivotal part of a performance and this is a bio representation, not only a concert, and I found it quite disrespectful that their sons/ grandson could not accept someone outside their bloodline or county to play their father. I know these actors do not need my defense as they are doing overly well on their own, none the less, it is nice to, as a fan to stand up for what you believe in, and I believe his performance was very relatable, and very to the point. He straight out did the performance and it showed pure justice. Its not where your from, its how dedicated you are to take on a role.
