Tom really did make himself disappear and became Hank Williams and sing all the songs himself. He is just incredible and one of my favorites. I think Hank Williams would be proud of Tom for portraying him so well.
Tom did a phenomenal job portraying Hank Williams and the singing was fantastic! I was shocked to learn he is British because he did a southern accent better than any actor I have ever heard and being a southern girl, I should know.
What part of the south are you from? Or rather what social class do you fall into? The non-rhotic southern accent has sadly all but died among the working class, but it still hangs on with the upper class, particularly in parts of Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. They don't drive cars like people from the mid-west, they drive "cahs" like people from Boston, Mass. or Southern England, for example (that's what non-rhotic describes). In Hank's time those non-rhotic features were much more wide spread, but as radio, tv, and post-wwii migration changes brought mid-western English to the South, more, and more southerners have adopted the hard "r's" so characteristic of American English today. Its actually easier for a Brit like Hiddleston who grew up with a non-rhotic accent to do an accent like southern accent of the 1940s, than it would be for them to do the mid-western accent because the southern accent shares more features with his native accent. During the American revolution large parts of the south remained loyalists, and as a result of Britain's dependence on American cotton, the south remained closer to Britain, and its culture, and in 1803 when Received Pronunciation became a thing, many towns in the south began adopting its features as a way of maintaining their connection with Britain in the aftermath of independence. It makes total sense that he'd be good at the accent of Hank's time, not shocking at all, my dear.
@@theoriginalt-paine3776 thank you for explaining this. I knew that Brits can do Southern accents better than most Americans but wasn’t sure exactly why except that the South stayed closer to its ancestral roots. I’m a Southerner and have been disgusted at the portrayal of Southern accents most of the time. Two of the four leading roles in Gone with the Wind were portrayed by British actors and they did a very accurate accent.
Southern girl here too, Northeast Georgia mountains. He did a great job with the accent! I'd like to see him tackle the Southern Appalachian accent, which is more nasal-sounding. I'd be glad to help him with that . . . The "Foxfire" series would be useful for that, and I just so happen to have all the books. 😁
I'm 64 years old and I think Tom Hiddleston is so cute not only can he Act he can play the guitar and sing and dance and the top it all off he's intelligent! ❤️
Hanks music was and is pure, Tom has done such an incredible job and looks like he enjoys it too which is just as important as getting the meaning across. Such amazing people and amazing music ❤️
Tom Hiddleston... he sings, he plays guitar, he studied Classics, he graduated from Cambridge, he speaks Latin, he speaks French, he’s British, he’s the sweetest & the most polite human-puppy. And he’s single. I beg to the deities of any chaotic multiverses, please make me his.
He's not single he's dating Zawe Ashton and has been since 2019 when they were in betrayal together. He's just not very public about his relationships since Taylor swift
He isn't really a Hank soundalike but he does have that thing that only really good Country singers had/have in that you her a song or two and you find you really want to her more, but you can't quite put your finger on the reason
Yeah they had to kinda put a newer spin to .it like they do in any movie about old artists . And even Hiddleston said he doesn't sing in the same vocal range as Hank
Seriously, how does he do that! he goes straight back to his own vocal parameter immediately. I study linguistics. I Went on a civil war trip with my mother when I was in middle school. We hoped around the various historical landmarks in the southern states for about two weeks. Let me tell you, I pick up accent easily and by far southern was the hardest to break. I had it for about 3 months.
phenomenally talented man. really wish he would appear in some films that are a bit lighter in tone. Look at his body of work. His roles are all dark, tragic figures. Even his stage performances are downbeat. Let's find Tom a sophisticated comedy or even a romantic comedy. Give him a drama that pits him against the odds and let him win! Something that ends well for god's sake. fingers crossed?
I agree with you. He's passionate about acting and puts everything into his role, and I feel like all those dark characters he's played can be mentally draining. Also, I want to watch movies that Tom acts in, but can't really bring myself to do so because I really don't like sad/tragic stories 😥
@@navyblue8719 you are right about some of his films. could not finish watching crimson peak. it was just too dark. same goes for this hank williams flick.
@@anweshakundu9345 I felt that way about The Deep Blue sea. thought it was one of the best depictions of a relationship failing. still, would love to see tom do something a BIT more cheerful....
I would love to see him in something where his character gets to be happy. He is an incredible actor, which makes his tragic characters all the more tragic. When they are at their most vulnerable, I can feel my heart break with them
I love how Tom just put his heart and soul into all his projects. Acting and storytelling is truly a passion for him, not just a paycheck. I think he’d make an excellent director down the road on top of his acting. I’d love to see him do a biopic of Leslie Howard. I think he’d be amazing-and on the tack, he’d make a good Henry Higgins, too, I think if he ever did “Pygmalion” or “My Fair Lady”.
I'm a huge dance of the inimitable Hank Williams. It's wonderful to hear Tom Huddleston doing Hank in a wonderful tribute. Thank you so much. Tom us excellent 👌🤗❤️🙏🏻👏⚡️🙏🏻 From a Hank an Tom fan xxx from uK 🇬🇧
4:58 Looks like a regular acoustic to me. What you may be thinking of as a classical has nylon strings, and the headstock looks different, holes through it with the tuning keys going through the holes' edges and coming straight out the sides.

My standard is so high because of him :>

This is like crazy-good tribute!! Only noticed Tom as his powerful character Loki in Thor movies.

Bruh
he had 3 weeks to learn how to sing and play.
I practiced gutair for a year and a half.
I know 3 chords.
Minnimus at least he just has to strum not saying he can’t do more I love him to death 💀
Yeeeshhh, he also had to lose weight for this role and he had to learn the perfect accent with voice coach (every day 2 hours for 3 weeks )
If you’re sincere then 3 is all you need.
He could play beforehand.
“It’s just 3 chords and a truth” oh YES.

He can sing dance and act. Can this man get any more perfect?
Why is he perfect
I love his voice
I like the Tom Hiddleston sing show.
He can do anything uf he setts his mind to it!
