The funny thing was that there is a later scene where the centurion (John Cleese) comes in to see if the prisoners had departed yet and couldn't get a comprehensible answer from these two so he left, then they sat down and resumed having a perfectly normal conversation with one another. They were just faking it the whole time so that people would leave them alone. Brilliant!
The best thing about this scene is Palin - his reactions to Idle and Gilliam's carry on are absolutely priceless. Palin was a magnificent actor in his own right.

But i honestly dont remember cus my beatles phase was some time ago and i truly was completely clueless. Anyways after i read ur comment I did do some digging. Apparently he produced it and even had a cameo in this.

Monty Python were many years ahead of their time! There is an accurate underlined message behind every funny scene! They make you laugh by criticizing by their own unique way! How brilliant! I wish modern comedy also was like this! Respect!

Why should they? Life of Brian isnt about christianity, its about religion... christianity just serves as an example Making the same movie with Mohammed would be nothing but a cheap ripoff, this movie is already about muslims (just as much as it is about christians, jews etc...) Its about a certain way of thinking, not about any specific religious figure
For me the bald deaf dude and the other were the lower point of the movie. I found them not funny and annoying but BY GOD when they start speaking and understanding correctly it made it up for me. Even the lower points in this movie make me laugh

I never noticed how close Palin comes to breaking character in the scene with the guards before... his character should not be smiling there.
This movie is far better than Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ".
I watched Gibson's movie all the way through and never laughed once.
