- In this video I look at the Silca Mattone. I used it for a few months but liked it so much I bought another one.

I really like the look of this and am waiting for one to arrive. However a couple of comments
1. Re Velcro fitted alternatives I have a Lezyne which fits just perfectly with Velcro - no saggy scrotum here, but it’s not as clean looking as the Silca for sure. A stringy tab on the zip opener and two webbing loops hanging down
2. Re things rattling around, this just means you have more room for light things with which to fill the space eg latex gloves.
Nice video thanks. Peace ✌️
Thanks, the only problem I have had with this bag is the zip can be sticky sometimes.
I have this saddle bag. I find the retention loop a bit fiddly to install but the cool aesthetic and its ability to be ratcheted taut and compact against saddle, makes a bike look extra good. Super stylish, practical and if I had to replace it, it will be another Mattone. Not the Grande version though. Not that. haha
Yes agreed on the looks. It can be a little fiddly but I do find it easier to use than velcro.
I’ve got the standard size and the Grande. The Grande is perfect for long rides ( 100 miles or so ). Standard size ideal for smaller routes
I was an early adopter of Silca rolls and they are well made and functional, but - the BOA did not stay fast which meant the rolls swung about under the seat. Some reported parting company with theirs completely. This seems to be a thing of the past now and mine are additionally secured with toe straps. The Mattone pack is compact and a neat fit. But its not going to be able to carry all the things you might want on a proper long ride, which to be fair is not its strong suit. Silca make the Grinta range of bags to deal with that requirement. Nonetheless, the Mattone pack is a good option for those who don't need to carry a workshop with them.
Thanks for the great comments. Yes it has enough capacity for a minimalist long ride, it does look pretty good for a saddle bag too!
I like this bag. I have a similar one from Lumière & Co. I couldn’t care less that it takes 5 seconds more to take off my bike if I need it. I needed on that doesn’t attach to the post as I have a telescopic post. This looks good, I just happened to find the Lumière & Co. first
I use one for my MTB and it goes well on the dropper.
thanks for sharing. Ive read some people complaining that the Bora dial will get dirt with time and stop working as it is on the bottom side. did you face such issue? thanks
No I haven't and I also use it on the MTB. I guess I take it off when I clean my bike and give the dirt a brush off.
Cheers. Been looking for a solution for Pave seatpost as my last saddlebag rubbed against the seatpost and wore away some carbon fibre.
No problem. I hope it works out for you. I have now got 3 of them!
@@jaselikesbikes new seatpost and nothing is going to be mounted to it.
@jase...what taillight and mount did you use with the Silca Mattone saddle pack?
It is a specialized stix light with the mount that fits on specialized saddles.
Hi, I just bought tubless tires. What is the "dart" tool you mentioned?
It is a stans dart. I have onlu used it once on a MTB but it worked well. www.notubes.com/dart
Where do I get a tube like you have in the video?
It is a tubolito tube , google it and it will pop up.
Loved thehidupz bag what's the vendor name and bag names on cite thank you new member
@@EleoIbarlin bought from Silca.Mattone, see thumbnail 🙂
Cool top tips
Thanks 🤩
too wide at stem-leg rub...zipper sticks out..leg rub
How do you get leg rub when it is behind the seat?
@@jaselikesbikes it is mostly behind but still enough at the front end to bump rear of legs, no?
me? slight on azzz and rear of thigh on most packs. im not fat at all but ive got pretty big azz+legs (pro hockey azz from former life). surely a lot of powerful riders end up with the same problem? my castelli xl -which is pretty small in spite of the name- has ruined some shorts (not from the stem velcro but, i think, from the side of the pack). im searching for something thinner than the castelli xl -probably going with castelli mini, but hoping for something thinner - thus ended up here, searching.
@@ugghhhyoutubeisawful646 Hmmm. I haven't even noticed it. I don't think it would touch the rear of your legs though.
@@jaselikesbikes ok, thanks for the input. i appreciate it.
That looks like a really poorly designed bag actually. I have a bag “with all that velcro.” I can take in on and off to adjust my seat faster than you can while fiddling with your boa strap, a strap that is fiddly and constantly exposed to tire spray and which will eventually fail and render the bag useless. An overly complicated Boa mechanism on a saddle bag is senseless! I can mount a light directly to my bag (as is the case for almost every other bag on the marker) that is pointing straight backwards. This bag has nowhere to mount a light, but even if it did it would have the light angled towards the sky. You use a separate fixed mount attached to the saddle in your set up to mount a light, which is just ridiculous. My “Velcro” is instantly adjustable so it will keep everything snug inside and keep the bag from “flopping around.” Never have I felt a bag move around while cycling and I doubt you ever have either. You mentioned no critiques of this bag, only invented critiques for traditional bags. Look at all of the negatives of this bag that some of your viewers have mentioned in this thread, none of which you care to share, or even considered. Your review seems disingenuous and I suspect this had to be a sponsored, but undeclared, review. If not sponsored, then you are guilty at the very least of using hyperbole simply to create content. If so, you are being dishonest and are doing a disservice to your viewers. If your viewers don't trust you, why should they ever follow you.
Wow you really thought about this. No not sponsored, I just liek the product. It would have been nice to know which bag you use. I don’t think that I have seen a bag with a light mount but it would take some adjustment to get the light pointing at the correct angle would it not? In my opinion it is a good looking bag that does it’s job well and you can’t say that for too many bags, although they are getting better!
@@jaselikesbikes My saddle bag is nothing special and is similar to almost all other saddle bags on the market. Angles downward under the saddle towards the seat post. Attaches to the seat post and both seat rails. Rear of bag, once attached, is vertical with a strap to which any light can be attached. Simple, cheap and functional.
