  • 96 Returning Stages in Smash Bros Ultimate means that 15 Stages (including Rainbow Road and Pac Maze) are still missing in Nintendo Switch's biggest game this year.
    In this video we look closer if any of them have a chance to make it into the Launch stage selection Inside Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

    How exactly is rainbow road a spoiler, there's literally one in every single Mario kart.. that's literally the stupidest assumption I've heard yet

      Paper Mario should be removed too because it spoils Bowser's Castle.
      Dracula's Castle should be removed because it spoils the ending of Castlevania
      Streetpass Quest shouldn't be here because it'll spoil the Dark Emperor from Streetpass Quest II.

      It can indeed be ultimate with a few left out. The characters are the most important inclusion, and they're probably going to reveal new stages soon, or have new stages hidden in the game until you actually play and see it in the list.

    Your general analysis weighed too heavily on the stage morph as a reason for stages not returning. While that's probably true for Jungle Hijinxs and possibly the two vertical scrolling stages, that shouldn't be a barrier to entry for other scrolling stages like Poké Floats or Orbital Gate Assault given that Rainbow Cruise, Big Blue, Pac-Land, and more scrolling stages already made the cut. Wooly World meanwhile is similar conceptually to Paper Mario - another stage already in the game - so stage morph is unlikely to be the reason for its absence either. Pac-Maze's absence surely has nothing to with the stage morph, but more likely the pellet/ghost mechanic that made use of the multiple screens in 3DS's multiplayer. And of course the missing tour stages (Mute City and Rainbow Road) wouldn't have been cut because of the stage morph given how many other tour stages there already are in the game.

    Stop theorizing that every stage's exclusion is due to Stage Morph, it's ridiculous. I see zero reason how Stage Morph affected Rainbow Road and especially Pac-Maze inclusion when we have stages similar like Mario Bros and the Mario Kart 8 stage. Must of been other factors that made them unable to include them or they're saving a batch of past stages for DLC.

DLC when done right can breathe new life into a game and increase its longevity to prevent needing to buy an entire more expensive sequel. I just don't understand how people can complain about things like this and Waluigi and Ashley (two characters that dont even have fleshed out character traits to build an entire moveset and taunts on anyways) when Sakurai gave so much already and put so much effort to the point of being in bad health at one point.

And Nintendo doesn’t seem to care about Pokémon Black and White spoilers despite that game coming out just a year before and actually being story focused. I'd like to point out that just because the stage moves does NOT mean it's automatically excluded. Rainbow Ride, Mushroomy Kingdom and 3D Land are in Ultimate and are stages that constantly move without stopping. And yet, they're in Ultimate, have Battlefield and Omega forms and work with Stage Morph. Yeah, Poke Floats (which was a quick addition using Pokemon Stadium assets), Icicle Mountain and Rumble Falls are gone for good reason. But who's to say that Orbital Gate Assault and Wooly World (which only moves/changes periodically like most roaming stages do as was shown with Skyloft in the Direct) won't return just because they "don't work" with Ultimate's features when similar stages do?

    How are spoilers for a stage an argument? Have you seen Shulk’s final smash? Heck even trophies in the past installments show spoilers for games. Besides, at this age in time we already know that every Mario Kart game has a new Rainbow Road so your argument is debunked.
    I’m glad most of the old stages are returning, but besides the vertical side-scrollers, there really isn’t any reason why other missing stages shouldn’t return. Heck, I take that back, vertical side-scrollers can also come back if horizontal side-scrollers are still a thing. There is literally no reason for their exclusion other than time management in development. One thing that we have learned from Sakurai is that he does whatever he wants and nothing is impossible at this point. We just have to wait and see.

      So this comment is going to be spoilers for Xenoblade:
      ------------------
      Fiora being all mechanical is pretty spoilery. If you played the game then you'd see her not all mechanical, then see her 'death', then think "Wait she never became mechanical. So she isn't dead. Now I have the expectation of her returning to my party later." Thus her death loses a ton of impact.

      @kenchi7503 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrServantRider Literally what I mean. I haven’t played the first Xenoblade game yet, but I intend to. However, because of this sole reason I now know what to expect later in the game. In my case, while I get this has a bigger impact if it’s not known beforehand, I still look forward to the game to see why and how it happens. However, I can see how for other people it can ruin their experience quite a bit.
      That said, Sakurai puts lots of spoilers in Smash for every series and franchise, mostly to reference key elements or characters that are very important to them. So the reason of not putting something in Smash because it’s a spoiler is stupid. If that’s the case, then why bother make the game at all since many references contains spoilers for games?

      Dream Land 64 is competitively better than Green Greens but sacrifices interesting design. Pokemon Stadium 1 is preferred over 2 mainly out of nostalgia, similar to PokeFloats' cult following. Smashville and Town & City are almost interchangeably equal, to the point where many people thought Town and City was simply Smashville when it was first revealed.
      Brinstar is more loved by fans than Planet Zebes but not inherently better or worse in terms of stage design.

    Morphing stages is an aditional mode, they wound't cut stages because of it, it's like cutting stages from the WiiU because it didn't fit 8 players. And Mushrommy Kingdom and pac-land are scrolling stages and both on the base roster

    • @caseybrandt5728
      @caseybrandt5728 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Eu Exactly! Making PAC-LAND work was as simple as having the stage morph into that area where the scrolling starts and is completely flat. Poke floats could be done if the stage morphs every one to the top of the screen, giving the players time to find a Pokémon to land on. Sakurai doesn’t have to make every feature in the game baby proof. Jungle Hijinks could be done by morphing everyone into the foreground during the transition (or a special feature where a barrel appears and launches you to the foreground during the transformation). Or they could just turn off certain stages for stage morph like they did with 8-player smash.

    Big Blue is hardly a replacement for Mute City. Nevermind the fact that they're both from Melee, Big Blue's concept as a sidescroller is very different from Mute City's concept as a tour. Port Town Aero Dive is much closer conceptually to Mute City as another tour stage with cars as potential hazards, but the setting and platforms that you get to fight on are different enough to warrant Mute City's return.
    Mute City should be seen as being in the same situation as Rainbow Road - another tour stage around a racetrack that was 'replaced' in the next game (MK8's Mario Circuit). Just because you personally favor Rainbow Road doesn't mean it should be considered any more likely to get in while Mute City gets the cold shoulder.

    • @EikeKusch776
      @EikeKusch776 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think some of the work for Mute City (Melee) has already been done. They could reuse the assets from Big Blue where those vehicles could be put into the stage. Just make them prone to taking damage like the original and a blown up animation if destroyed.

    • @Innunim

      I see Mute City the way I see the 64 maps that were cut; they were replaced by newer maps that are functionally the same map like you said. Rainbow Road, on the other hand, plays different to the MK8 Mario Circuit because there are different obstacles and the platform stops are different layouts among the two maps.
      Granted, I never played Smash 4 and have only seen gameplay of it, but I think it looked different than Mario Circuit. I would like to see Rainbow Road return even if it was future DLC tbh

    I'm sick of hearing people parrot the "vertical scrolling stages interfere with the stage morph!" line. There's no proof of this whatsoever, but it keeps getting repeated as gospel. We have stages with vertical scrolling in Ultimate such as Rainbow Cruise which has vertically scrolling sections. We also have stages that do much weirder shit than scroll vertically, like Brinstar Depth's rotating, oddly shaped platform. Clearly those work with stage morph, so there is no reason to think that Rumble Falls/Icicle Mountain couldn't work too other than that some guy on a message board said it once and now it's become a fact in everyone's mind for some reason.

      I would like to note that the stage morphs in by bringing the entire collision for the next stage up from the bottom blast zone to the correct position. In a stage with infinite vertical height and platforms literally above the blast zone, that could cause issues. All the other weird stages have a defined top and can also just morph into non-vertical sections to avoid any issues. Oh, and also having the entirety of an infinite stage come down from the top of the screen to crush players on its way out would not be fun.

However, I think it just has to do with prioritization, I 100% believe that Sakurai and crew will be watching for what stages we're lamenting the exclusion of and are probably currently hard at work chipping away at a few of these either for base inclusion or DLC.

    And the only stage worse than Pac-Land is Rumble Falls....so ffs, give us Pac-Maze, Sakurai! Even if it means sacrificing it's gimmick, the stage itself is still infinitely better than the garbage that is Pac-Land

    • @newageBoundhippie
      @newageBoundhippie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it's a case of hiding them, I think it's that they're still being worked on & aren't ready to be shown. Plus, it's the wording of it that has fans wondering if 103 is the actual final total. As I piint out in my original comment, the Mute City stage from 3DS has been renamed as Mute City SNES, which doesn't seem like something Sakurai would just randomly do and sort of hints that the F-Zero X based Mute City from Melee is at least likely ( even if it's post launch in the event that 103 IS the final base number ). Then there's the remaining unannounced fighters...if rumors & hints pan out, there's no way we get the likes of Banjo & Kazooie, Shantae, Rayman or even new Nintendo IP reps like Isaac and Karate Joe without stages representing their respective franchises. We still have a few more months to find out, so I'll avoid any absolutes when it comes to the numbers until the game is in my hands.

    I'm okay with the fact that there is already enough stages and I know it's an enormous work to do but the reason why I think we will have every stages at the end (maybe not clone stages like Sector Z etc...) is because it seems weird to call this game "Ultimate", bring back every characters, every good things from previous titles and don't include the only 15 missing stages. It's almost nothing at this point and it would sounds like a missed opportunity to actually bring back all stages.
    Say that some stages are not compatible with stage morphing isn't a valid argument because moving stages like Orbital Gate Assault can start on the stable starting platform and start moving after the stage transition. I'm sure it's not impossible.
    And not only stages but also some characters are controversial in the Smash Community like Pichu or Young Link and they are in the game so I don't think it's an issue.

      Captain Mega I meant in a more individual sense, but Big Blue is too similar to the Spirit Train in that you literally cannot recover if you fall off a particular side, and Port Town Aero Drive is too similar to Rainbow Road, another stage where it's practically impossible to recover from but for a different reason: you're more likely to get trapped under the stage or bounced from the bottom to one of the kill zones than successfully grab the ledge. As for Mute City SNES, the only thing it has going for it is nostalgia. Melee Mute City, however was by far the most balanced F-Zero stage, so it's much more compatible with the stage morph feature than the other three.

      That would be stupid, Sakurai said that EVERY stage works with 8-player and Stage Morph options, so there is no way that any stage could be disabled (it would be dumb), anyways, all this stages have very good reasons to not be there: Planet Zebes, Sector Z, Mushroom Kingdom 1 and Mute City (Melee) are too similar to Brinstar, Corneria, Mushroom Kingdom 64 and Port Town Aero Dive (and don't bring up the Smashville - Town and City argument, those are in because they were easier); Pyrosphere because of Ridley's inclusion as a fighter; Icicle Mountain and Rumble Falls are hated by community; Poke Floats would have problems on it's Omega and Battlefield forms (and Onix can't be any of those forms, they need to be identical to FD and BF on their shapes) and it's irregular and painful terrain is awful; Rainbow Road was directly ported from MK7 to SSB3DS so bringing it back would mean to remake it completely and it has the same gimmick as the Mario Circuit U; Orbital Gate Assault (the one that hurted me the most) isn't very liked by people and would be too much work (in SSB4 it took 1 year of dev); Pac-Maze gimmick can't work on 1 screen, it would need an screen for each player 'cause without it you would never know who's able to eat the ghosts; Yoshi Wooly World... this one should be there but meh; and Jungle Hijinx would be very problematic with Stage Morph; but theres NO REASON to complaint, we already have 103 stages, we DON'T need more, so it's totally fine, they could get as DLC tho (there are some that i would love to see in SSBU), but we shall wait and see.

    I'd like to point out that the Metal Mario stage from SSB64 has NEVER been legitimately playable on demand in a Smash game before. I wasn't expecting it to be included, but when Sakurai was talking about all of the additions from previous games, I was really hoping it would make it for the first time in the series. Why? BECAUSE THAT THEME MUSIC IS AMAZING!!! Even if they don't add that stage, I still really want them to at least add that track to My Music!

  • @brush_wiper

    Rainbow Road was taken out for no reason. Because the stage morph would work but then the stage is not a spoiler too, so why would they take one of the most amazing stages out, and they even still have Mario Kart 7 music too. And Pac-Maze, even if it had stage specific items, Golden Plains has it's own coin counter and coins, and Pac-Land has items that make you able to jump higher and become invincible, and fire hydrants that make you big, but still Pac-Maze was cut. Oh and Jungle Hijinxs, the stage morph could have a delay so everyone would be put back into the foreground and the background would not be usable until Jungle Hijinxs is accessible again. So the spoilers and Stage Morph are basically are lies and excuses to be made dlc that takes your money or to make you sad that they may never come back. At least stage builder is here now. But you can't make the stage the same way that they were for many reasons.

    I don't get how Pac Maze and Rainbow Road were cut.
    Pac Maz is iconic, easier to make compared to the abomination that is Pac Land, and would work perfectly with Stage Morph. We have a stage that's similar in gimmick, Golden Plains, with the whole collecting pellets/coins thing. Honestly, they could've saved some time making Pac Maze over Pac Land.
    As for Rainbow Road, it's not a spoiler, especially since Mario Kart 7 is like 5 years old at this point. And again, it would work perfectly with Stage Morph, as we have another similar stage, Port Town Aero Dive.
    I'm really hope that they get added for DLC, but it's not very likely at this point. Fingers crossed.

      It's a confusing situation:
      The original SM64 course is called Rainbow Ride in English and Rainbow Cruise in Japanese.
      In Melee, the localisation team didn't change the stage name to Rainbow Ride to fit with the original English name, except in the European version. This happened again in Brawl.
      And now, even on the UK version of the SSBU website, the stage is called Rainbow Cruise, so I have no idea what it'll be called in the full game.

  • @MikaDubbz

    I think that page will fill up, giving us 109 stages, meaning 6 more will be filled. There are almost certainly at least 2 or 3 fighters yet to be revealed from series not yet with a stage. (For example, Isaac and a Golden Sun stage seems to be almost a given at this point, I could also see Geno and a Mario RPG stage, and even Banjo & Kazooie with a stage for their series), which I think would leave at most 3 remaining classic stages unannounced as returning. I would think these would be real popular ones that they're holding back just get that extra little hype out of us all when they're confirmed. As such I think we might still see Pokefloats, Pac-Maze, and orbital gate assault or wooly world.

  • @fantasyfeak999
    @fantasyfeak999 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think the main issue with Pac-Maze was the system that they used with the pellets. It was made to work with having different screens, so they'd have to make changes in order to implement it into Ultimate.
