      Some of us are holding on for dear life. I’ve got a vehicle with 172K on it that I would have replaced 2 years ago if things didn’t go nuts. Trying to ride it for a couple more months until end of year and at least one rate reduction.

      @@luissantiago147 it’s interesting that for the last four years we complained about dealers having no inventory. Now that they are back to having full lots, like they did before the pandemic, we assume it’s because they’re not selling anything.

  • @michaelp4834
    @michaelp4834 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Another great video. Repos from dealers (not just consumers) are increasing because many dealers cannot maintain their floor plans with hoards of new inventory as old as 2023 on their lots. You're also correct about how some dealers treated their long-time customers as "boogers" during the pandemic. I can personally attest to that as I executed my lease buyout option after my dealer of 10 years (and three fully loaded leases) treated me in similar fashion in 2023. As you note, the MSRPs reflect what were house prices not long ago. If, as the NY Fed reports, 20 percent of new car loan applications are being rejected today, then it will only get worse. OEMs will have to eventually pivot back to simpler technology and lower price points if they don't want the music to stop.

    The dealerships here in the California bay area are terrible. According to cargurus they have inventory sitting for months. So I emailed a few dealerships to try and make a deal on a truck that was sitting for over 100 days. Basically they told me to F off. So I can’t wait to laugh at these people when there dealerships go bankrupt. Im not as soft and nice as others I will definitely have no remorse for these people.

    The Chevy Colorado Trail Boss or GMC Elevation can be had for low 40k. So the equivalent Tacoma is 10-12k more. Just traded out of my GMC for a 24 Subaru Crosstrek Sport as I really don't need a truck anymore. That saved me at least 12k and I'm really enjoying the Crosstrek. There are absolutely affordable options but not if you're stuck on certain segments of the market. I got 10% off my Subaru and felt good about the deal. I could afford a new truck but I'd feel like a sucker for writing that check.

    My local FCU has 5.25% up to 60 months and 5.75% up to 72 months on new vehicle loans. Not ideal, but not 7-9%. Vehicles that are sitting in lots are being advertised at 1.9% or even 0% from the dealership. Prices are unfortunately still inflated.
    The prices have to come down but it’s complicated. Manufacturers are genuinely stuck with higher wages and higher material costs, even higher overhead. They can and will still have to reduce their prices but I think they’re more likely to reduce their costs along with it at the detriment of the consumer… in other words quality will decline.
    I’d love to trade my SUV for a new fully loaded pickup but that’s $70-90k. A few years back these loaded trims were actually much more affordable.

    I can sit on my back deck and see the Ford dealership at a distance, and the lot is overflowing with new and used cars. This weekend I saw maybe 2 cars being test driven. Some of the same cars have been sitting over 10 months and no price reductions have been offered (checked on their website). I live in a smaller town of 30K people 23 miles south of Indianapolis. There are 3 dealers here, Ford, Chevy and CJDR and very little action in sales. Of the 3 the Chevy dealer seems to move a few more cars and trucks than the other dealers. On my street I know that there were 2 repo's in the middle of the night (I'm retired usually up till 2 am) and being a former repo person for a bank many years ago I know they swept in and snagged those trucks in less than 2 minutes. Things are going to crash even more in the coming months.

    I think half of the trucks on the market are ego driven.. And 90% of them are too big and it costs more and with all the technology that you don't need.. it's no wonder they cost 100,000. They need to scale them back to something closer to what you would buy in the 90s or in the 80s. Everything is extreme. Camaros and chargers and Mustangs are faster and meaner and louder than what they need to be and trucks are more heavy duty than what they need to be and they all have too much electronics navigation doubling up on my phone. Like they just need to simplify and stop. All that stuff costs mooonnneeyyy
