worked on my 1999 Durango, 2006 Grand Caravan, 2006 Ram 1500, and 2014 Town & Country. I have only listed my personal vehicles but I know it works on several other Dodge models/years because I have shown friends this trick. Most frequent repair ? Tighten/clean the gas cap. :-)
04 ram 1500 on the 3rd attempt I finally got it to read the code! just had to turn key on-off really fast. I wasn't doing it fast enough. I appreciate your video very helpful. thank u
Just turn the key all the way to the acc position and all the way off 3 times fast doesn't have to be lighting quick but the faster the better and on the 3rd turn leave it in the acc position
AWESOME! Works on my 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4.7L V8. Showed me as having an Idle Air Control problem as having RPM's lower than expected. I cleaned my IAC and throttle body and I'll bet it goes off next time I run it. Thanks a bunch for the tip!
This worked on my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3L V6. It shows on the odometer.. I just got a code P0406 today and will now be able to check into the EGR circuit. GREAT JOB! Thanks for the video.
Thanks danielkirkman1. I have a 99 Dodge Wagon 3500 5.9 liter and what you described worked for me very well. Doing the initial task that the video described seemed to actually clear the check engine light instead of showing me the codes. Holding the trip meter button while turning the ignition on did the scan just like you described. Thanks!
Just tried this on my 2007 with 128K miles. P0441 was the code. Next to find out what THAT means! Thanks much. I already had the odometer set to trip as it was. The RUN designation meant 2 clicks and lots of lights turned on the dashboard. But the 3rd time was like a charm!
It worked on my 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. The code came on the 2nd time I turned the key and said "done" on the time where the key was in the on position. Thank you!
This worked on my 2003 Dodge Intrepid. My Engine light was on. Make sure it's on the Odometer part of the dial, not the trip counter. When I turned on the key 3 times I got a code of P0325. It works!
Works on a Dodge Dakota 2002 too. Got a p 0455 code, which was a EVAP error. First thing on the checklist is check your gascap, and yes it was loose. Go figure. Now hopefully it will reset itself. Thanks bunches for the video!
For some Dodge models after 1998 you can either turn the ignition on while simultaneously holding the odometer reset button or on some just turn to "on" position while doing the same. This will have the vehicle run a diagnostics check and a panel test. Hope this helps.
I have the same truck but couldn't get it to work. I tried this with just the fob key without the actual key in. Do you think that could be why it's not working?
Thanks for the awesome tip. Worked on my 2005 dodge ram 1500 4x4 quad cab got P 0406 wich was the egr valve found it for $39.99 took me 30 min or so and saved $220.
had trouble but found a different way. It works on my 2004 dodge ram 1500 laramie. I just have to hold the trip meter button then turn it on. Thank you for the video good sir it helped me a lot.
it worked with my 2001 dodge grand caravan 3.8 liter v 6... didn't at first so we tried holding the trip in while turning it three times... still nothing... did it again an bam... there it was code 1684! thanks for your video
Thanks for the info buddy,i have a 1995 dodge stratus and to read it the check engine light will blink 6 times and it will work. Thanks dude so much i took my car to get looked at because the light was on a they could not do it because the reader said please try again... we did that 3 times. so its does work on a 90s dodge stratus.
OK,this only applies to 1999 Durango. You cannot read codes through the odometer, however you can reset the "orange check engine" light this way. 1. Change the odometer to trip and hold down the trip switch. 2. While holding down the odometer trip switch, cycle ignition key three times. You will notice the only light that displays is the red security dash light, while doing this. 3. Release trip switch, and start your 1999 Durango and the orange "check engine light" will be off. This method will turn your light off, however of coarse it will reappear in time, if a real problem exists. THX From Joe
Trust me it doesn't work on a of your listed vehicle, cas I'm a dealer man forever and tried several that do not. It's kind of a mixed bag. Even had a 99 Durango it wouldn't work on since my original post. Back to the trustworthy scanner. Thanks for the post. Joe.
I'll have to agree with Adam it does indeed work with all I've been working at a dodge dealer for 25+ years now and I'm yet to encounter a dodge or Chrysler between the years he has stated that it hasn't worked but with that being said it is definitely not the most practical way of identifying a vehicle DTC.
For my 1999 dodge Dakota. The process was different then how you did it. I turned the key on push and hold the trip button, turn the key to the off position and then turn the key to the on position. And it when it done it will just show your mileage.
Works on a 2010 Dodge Journey! I already saw it on a forum and I just wanted to confirm here that it works

worked on my 1999 Durango, 2006 Grand Caravan, 2006 Ram 1500, and 2014 Town & Country. I have only listed my personal vehicles but I know it works on several other Dodge models/years because I have shown friends this trick. Most frequent repair ? Tighten/clean the gas cap. :-)

ken R so far I haven't been able to get it to work on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. I'll go try it by going faster like you said.
Mike Gerrie I haven't had any luck either with my 04 Ram
Just turn the key all the way to the acc position and all the way off 3 times fast doesn't have to be lighting quick but the faster the better and on the 3rd turn leave it in the acc position
AWESOME! Works on my 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4.7L V8. Showed me as having an Idle Air Control problem as having RPM's lower than expected. I cleaned my IAC and throttle body and I'll bet it goes off next time I run it. Thanks a bunch for the tip!
