My transmission was slipping due to a computer malfunction. I tried resetting the system by disconnecting the battery. No go. Your technique did the trick. Awesome. Thanks. Note: On a 2004 Durango you have to hold the trip button down until the binging sounds stop. Let it go when the sound stops and the gauges start dancing. I did the lights on thing but the radio is still programmed not sure how that's happening.
Always happy to help. Thanks for your info you added. Every little bit helps everyone that needs help so pat yourself on the back for assisting people fix their future automobile problems. On automatic transmissions there are electric solenoids that control shifting and gearing. Once in a while they get stuck and do trip a computer code. When this happens it means that solenoid is about to fail. They are not difficult to replace. Some have one and some have 2 depending on type of transmission. The radio on your 04 is still programmed because there is a back up battery. Internal installed. If you leave your battery disconnected for about a week or so then the radio will lose its memory.
Tried that on my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel truck 5.9 Cummins 4WD quad cab long bed duelly and it did not reset the light. Yes, it moved the gauges and lit the lights. Yeah, I tried it twice, following all instruction.. Engine Light later on went off on its own after 5 start- stops and driving around. Light had come on after I started engine with the ambient air temp sensor on the cold air intake disconnected, I forgot to reattach. But it was a good idea to clean the negative battery terminals. I knocked the corroded bolts out of the terminal and cleaned them, greased with marine grease and reassembled.
Hi! I like the video, I also have a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 and I needed to reset the engine light. I found an easier way to reset the little orange engine light. I found this on one of the online forums. Start your truck, drive forward about 15 feet, then back up to where you started, then shut the truck off. Do this a total of three times, and when you turn the truck on the fourth time the engine light will be off! :-)
Jen S. This don't work on resetting the codes. This procedure that you are talking about is to free a stuck valve in the automatic transmission which is giving the engine light code. When the stuck valve sticks, it gives off the code. If you have other codes that don't do nothing with the transmission such as 02 sensors, knock sensors, engine sensors, etc... this procedure just won"t work. Thanks for the input though. I did hear about this but never tried it. I got my source from a friend that works at Dodge and I have a friend that works at Ford so I am continuing to find new ways to help people find a cost effective way other than dealer pricing. Thanks again for the input...Keep learning and please do share......
+litleElmo does your temperature gauge take a minute to kick in cause when I cut my truck on the needle will just stick on the cold side for a good 10 minutes
+Evan Dotson no. it should warm up normally. slowly going up. Maybe you have a problem with your thermostat or heater core. My core was plugged up. Buy a failsafe thermostat. It will save you big time...
ya, its always best to replace them annually. I always do early maintenance. I never go by what the dealership says. I always do everything yearly or by mileage. 5000 miles = 3000 miles on my chart. Change fluids every 3 years = every year on my chart etc... Have fun truckin...........

+litleElmo first hello I have a dodge ram1500 and my antitheft lights on and it stop getting fuel to fuel pump what can I try without spending outrageous money
Just bought a 2000 Dodge Sport Ram 1500. Check engine light is on and the truck will die while driving it. Try to restart it and the fuel pin will not come up on a full tank of fuel and the engine will turn over but not start. Tried the code read thing with the switch and shows P DONE. Took it to the shop and they replaced the dist. Still doing the same. No warning when it dies it just goes. The prior owner ran a wire from the frame down to the fuel tank that has come loose. Makes me think of a ground problem. Any suggestions ?
I own a 2002 Dodge Ram Van 1500 that won’t pass inspection bc the airbag light won’t come on. Everything else on the van checks out. The shop I take it to for the inspection recommended replacing the cluster which seems a bit extreme for an airbag light. I’ve checked the fuses and that doesn’t appear to be ok. Pls advise.
Hi everyone. Always check the codes and if you can fix the problem that is triggering the code and erase the code from the ecm with what I have on my video. Check wires and connectors going to the part that is giving off codes. It could be that simple. Thanks.
How’s it going brotha,.. great video man,.. will this help with the idle relearn process ? I switched out the throttle body and it’s still gives me the relearn indication with lighting bolt and blinking engine light before I start the truck. I did disconnect the negative for 90sec and reconnected then turn turned the key and waited 20sec before turning the truck on.
Hi,We have just found disconnected one of the wires to coil pack, so we connect it and our engine indicator is on how to reset it? DODGE RAM 2015 1500 5.7HEMI . Thanks
Thank you ! thank you ! thank you ! Way cool tip this worked on my Dodge ram it's been driving me crazy for months. Thank you very much. Have a Drink on Me. Cya Dale
My battery died. So I charged it back and it started right away. But when I come to a stop sign it stops and I have to restart. I was told it has to do with taking the negative cable off the battery first, when I should have taken the POSITIVE cable off the battery charger first.
Go to your fuse relay box by the battery.Pull fuse #51 for 2 minutes and reinstall it after that the security system should be reset. Let me know if it works ok.
If you have a problem with the 4x4 light then it should be a switch problem. Resetting the computer will not solve this issue. Adjust switch as necessary or replace.
I'm also having issues with a 2002 Ram alarm system. The mechanic can't figure out why the alarm is going off. I've never had a key fob (it was purchased new), and according to the VIN it didn't come with a factory alarm. Yet somehow an alarm is going off. Would doing this help? Any other thoughts?
Look for a hidden valet switch. If it's a add on security system. Tell me in detail what caused your problem, recent work done, what was replaced and what was disconnected.
Mine 2002 doesn’t give any light on dashboard 😞 completely dead. Don’t know why. I disconnected the battery and put it back and tried to start the truck and just gave a sound and everything shut off nothing on dashboard 😞
The P0601 is a PCM " Power Control Module" problem. I had that issue before on my truck and lucky for me it was a loose wire harness. Check your wire harness in the engine compartment. There should be 2 grey computer boxes with wires coming out from them. Move the wires around and pull and push back in the connectors that are on the wires. Try to erase the codes after you do this. Does the transmission make noise when you try to put it in drive? If it sounds like a rapid clicking noise then the problem is in the transmission which should be the pressure solenoid. It is electronic and they do wear out after a while. Let me know what happens ok.
If its not the same procedure as on this 02 Dodge Ram then try the 5 times on the ignition switch. I use to do that procedure on a 1999 Dodge Ram with the 5.9 engine. Let me know if that helps.
yea I leave it in the on position but not cranking it nothing comes up just shows mileage maybe no code? just have to reset cel? it's weird because before it has thrown 300 code on scanner but I had mine stolen
if you have a problem with your sensors then it won't pass emissions. More than likely if you clear the light and it don't come back on then yes it will pass.
My dodge caravan2002 runs windshield wipers work air conitioner locked but turn lights on everything stops working and he van wants to roll to a stop motor keeps run it the park Steve reverse get a square around the d any idea what to do please help
Sounds to me like you have a fuel pump problem or a relay problem. Do you have a video of what the van is doing? If so, let me see it and I will tell you whats wrong with it.
No, not the TPS. The only thing that has shifting issues is the pressure solenoid and the actual shifter itself which you have to press the brake pedal in order to shift the lever into gear.
I have a 2007 RAM 1500 Hemi 5.7, this trick worked to turn off the check engine light but it did not have any code showing why the engine light was on it just showed - - - - - then said done and after running the engine about 5 minutes the check engine light came back on. I have been told that the check engine light on this pickup is on because the oil pressure sensor is bad. My oil pressure gauge shows high pressure all the time. Can you or anyone tell me how high the oil pressure should read on the 2007 5.7 Hemi? Also why does the check engine light come on and no codes show up on doing this procedure?
@@aaronabt4279 Thanks for the reply. I just replaced my oil pressure sensor. The old unit was leaking a small amount of oil. The oil pressure gauge still goes up to the high side and always stays in the same spot so I don't know if it is working correctly or not. If the gauge should be changing while at idle and higher RPM's then it is still not working.
I have the scan and it doesn't show anything wrong with the car! I would like to know if you could reset the tachometer for me because in the scan shows the right but in the tachometer shows the wrong. is it possible to reset the tachometer like in your video? thanks
Does it show codes on your tachometer when you do the ignition key scan? What codes show up if there are any when you use the key? What do you mean in the right and the wrong with the tachometer? We will figure it out, just give me more info and I will help the best I can OK.
07 Wait to start indicator circuit shorted. 08 Wait to start indicator circuit open. 64 Driver door lock switch input circuit open. 81 Remote radio switch input circuit high. These have to be fixed before erasing the code.
@@michaeljarosz8507 OK, so if your lights work then you had a small interrupt in the power somewhere. It could be a lose connector, ground somewhere, bare wire, mice eating wires, moisture. Look around at all your wiring that is out in the elements. Wires break over time and they also rub on the truck which eats away at the plastic covering on the wires.
I never tried this on a 2011. I don't think it will but since you have your truck there and I don't maybe you can try it and see if it works. Try the 3 times with the key and if that don't work, try the 2 times with the key and if that don't work, try the 4 times with the key. Let me know if that helps ok.
I've been trying to figure out a problem with my 2004 Ram 1500 for the last couple of months. It died on me one evening and was running perfectly up to that point. It just quit running. I had figured that it was a wiring problem since I have had that before thanks to the damn soy-based "green" insulation that the idiots at Dodge put on their wiring. Turns out that squirrels and other rodents like soy... No big surprise there, right? I have other vehicles, so I have not been as motivated to fix it as I probably should have. Well, today the weather was a bit better and I decided to take the pressure washer to the truck, clean it up (including the engine compartment) and see if I can find any wires that had been chewed. Pretty much destroyed all the firewall heat / sound shielding in the process, so maybe that wasn't that good of an idea. :) When I tried to start it, it would start for a couple of seconds and then die. I tried spraying some starter fluid in the air intake, but same result. Not having anyone to spray while I cranked kind of prevented me from seeing if it would just run on starter fluid. If it did, then I would have started looking at the wiring to the fuel pump. At some point, I decided to see if pumping the gas might make a difference and surprisingly, it would continue to run as long as I gave it a bit of gas. If I took my foot off the accelerator pedal though, the RPMs would drop down below 500 RPMs and soon die. So, I saw this video while searching for reasons why this vehicle would run, but not idle. I figured I would give it a try to see if this would show some sort of error code. It would not show an error code, but even more surprisingly, the truck started working correctly (i.e. it now idles). I had already had the battery disconnected for weeks, so that doesn't appear to reset anything. I'm not sure why it is now working, but I'm glad that it is. Of course, not knowing the cause of a problem kind of makes me not trust it anymore. I only have around 87K miles on it, so it's pretty low mileage for the year it was built.
As was mentioned on the video, disconnect battery, turn head lights, press the trip reset, turn ignition on and off five times. You have to make sure you replaced the faulty or broken item that is setting off codes first.
@@loganwork7024 You bought a new ECU? Where from? Have you had it flashed from the dealership or shop? @@litleElmo I appreciate that. Im not entirely sure what being flashed from the dealership means, but I've bought a new ECU, a new alternator, and a new battery. The only thing is if there's an issue, it's gonna keep throwing codes. Eventually it's not going to just clear it for good.

+litleElmo sweet thanks might as well buy a new thermostat couldn't hurt
ya, its always best to replace them annually. I always do early maintenance. I never go by what the dealership says. I always do everything yearly or by mileage. 5000 miles = 3000 miles on my chart. Change fluids every 3 years = every year on my chart etc... Have fun truckin...........
thank you that was a very helpful video
@ jace larouche its an 02 because the 01 dash is different I have a 02 and his dash is exactly like mine ,I just changed all 3 computers in my truck chasing a power shortage that was caused by the yellow wire from the ken wood stereo installed touched the black negative wire some how the crimp on the yellow fell off and fried one of the control units I didn know single handed witch one it was after all the you tube researching and Google forums I read this guy here was the one guy on the planet that solved my problem I was having with check engine light and it never came back on its a couple few weeks and it's running great with a new rebuilt boarded out motor...thanks litleElmo .

+litleElmo first hello I have a dodge ram1500 and my antitheft lights on and it stop getting fuel to fuel pump what can I try without spending outrageous money
Hey Brenda. I need more info from your truck. What year? Anti theft from 2002 models is with the computer. What damage was done with the truck?
Thanks so much for sharing this! It's very helpful! (Thanks again!)
Happy to help. There are plenty of tips and tricks that the dealers don't want to share...
You need to clean the battery connections. Good video, thanks !!
ya, I know. I need to replace my cables for better ones.
The chime sounds great it sounds like the saturn vue
you know the saying, its made in ??????
Thanks ..learn something new everyday ... resetting
awesome video. however wouldnt just unplugging the battery would have reset ur ecu already?
Cool
no
Yes it will
No it won’t
Thanks a lot. very useful information.
It works thanks brother did it to my 05 Dodge Ram
I own a 2002 Dodge Ram Van 1500 that won’t pass inspection bc the airbag light won’t come on. Everything else on the van checks out. The shop I take it to for the inspection recommended replacing the cluster which seems a bit extreme for an airbag light. I’ve checked the fuses and that doesn’t appear to be ok. Pls advise.
Hi everyone. Always check the codes and if you can fix the problem that is triggering the code and erase the code from the ecm with what I have on my video. Check wires and connectors going to the part that is giving off codes. It could be that simple. Thanks.
82ND AIRBORNE
That was fuqqin Outstanding!!
it worked!!!.....thnx a lot man
Thanks for showing us this thats awesome!
That rooster is the best
Real celebrity 😂
All you have to do to reset. It is unhook the battery you don't have to do all that other stuff. Just to see the codes unless you want to.
Did you figure out how to relearn throttle body? I'm having same issue
Thank you. That was really excellent.
Thank you very helpful Dave Dixon
Happy to help:O).
Will this help with the odometer? Mine isn’t working and it’s driving me crazy
thanks! for the video I pass my inspection
happy to help. Don't forget to like and subscribe on my channel.

Happy To Help....
Disconnect battery cable touch them together for a minute or to resets the lights
Is the engine dodge Ram 2006 can be replaced in Dodge Dakota 2006??
Please answer me
What does no bu5 mean on a 2007 Dodge 1500.. Please help. Any advice would be helpful.
Hows this an 01? Shouldn't it be an 02 up?
03 and up lol
It's not even 02 and up it's a 3rd gen
1500 3rd gen started in 02
My '13 Ram trip meter is electronic and located in the steering wheel buttons.
worked like a charm! thanks
No problem. Happy to help and saves from buying special tools or the big shop bill LOL.
Hi,We have just found disconnected one of the wires to coil pack, so we connect it and our engine indicator is on how to reset it? DODGE RAM 2015 1500 5.7HEMI . Thanks
Should be the same procedure. Check to see if you can retrieve the codes using the key trick.
Awesome thanks for sharing that tip👍
Thank you ! thank you !
Alternator probably bad
does this work on a 2004 dodge durango with a 4.7l v8? my check engine light is always on.
I got code p0500 vehicle speed sensor. Where is it on my 99 dodge ram van 1500 6 cyl? Help! Thanks
Thanks bro it work just fine👌
+Chiraq Weezy Glad to help:O).
Thanks for your help
great video do you know how to reset factory alarm I shut it off and I can't turn on back
Thanks
You will most likely have to re-program the key fobs. How did you shut off the alarm?
3 times turn it key to the right
that should have nothing to do with the alarm. Whats the make and model and year of your car or truck?
dodge pickup 2500 2004
Go to your fuse relay box by the battery.Pull fuse #51 for 2 minutes and reinstall it after that the security system should be reset. Let me know if it works ok.
My 06 Dodge Ram 1500 brake light is on? It’s not the e break and the brake fluid is good. Help?
hi do you have a video on resetting the sevr 4x4 light
If you have a problem with the 4x4 light then it should be a switch problem. Resetting the computer will not solve this issue. Adjust switch as necessary or replace.
Buy yourself a $40 code scanner, find the code and fix your truck
Thank you brother.
There is a 10 amp fuse in that box next to the battery much better to pull that & U do not need to do a Cluster Test
Nice adea and keep sharing for everyone to learn to help themselves and others. Thanks
Thank you it worked great
your welcome. Happy to hear it helped. Just remember, if sensors are bad, just replace them. I had a vid on getting the codes.
Does this reset the radio as well?
Would this work on an 05 1500 3.7 V6?
Will thia work on a 2005 Dodge Durango?
it should.
Isn't that just a self-diagnostic for the gauges?
Will this work on a 2005 Durango 4.7L??
should work, won't hurt to try. Every 10 years the hidden tricks change. Give it a try. First make sure if you can bring up codes using the key trick.
Tell me in detail what caused your problem, recent work done, what was replaced and what was disconnected.
litleElmo having problem with body cpu and main cpu not recognizing each other and setting off alarm on 2002 ram please help
Can this only be done with a 2001 ?
Mine 2002 doesn’t give any light on dashboard 😞 completely dead. Don’t know why. I disconnected the battery and put it back and tried to start the truck and just gave a sound and everything shut off nothing on dashboard 😞
Dead battery
Just disconnect the battery in the first place....wait 2 minutes reconnect and vuala! Gone🙉💪🤘🍻
I just had my 2002 dodge grand caravan checked the code was p0601 can you tell me what the problem is?
The P0601 is a PCM " Power Control Module" problem. I had that issue before on my truck and lucky for me it was a loose wire harness. Check your wire harness in the engine compartment. There should be 2 grey computer boxes with wires coming out from them. Move the wires around and pull and push back in the connectors that are on the wires. Try to erase the codes after you do this. Does the transmission make noise when you try to put it in drive? If it sounds like a rapid clicking noise then the problem is in the transmission which should be the pressure solenoid. It is electronic and they do wear out after a while. Let me know what happens ok.
will this work on an 04 5.7 I've tried to get codes but won't show up I have CEL. it will reset but not give me code.
If its not the same procedure as on this 02 Dodge Ram then try the 5 times on the ignition switch. I use to do that procedure on a 1999 Dodge Ram with the 5.9 engine. Let me know if that helps.
litleElmo I tried that also but no luck
Are you leaving the key in the run position on the 3rd time? Don't crank the engine, just go to the run position on the switch.
Let me know what it says on the odometer when you leave the key in the on position.
yea I leave it in the on position but not cranking it nothing comes up just shows mileage maybe no code? just have to reset cel? it's weird because before it has thrown 300 code on scanner but I had mine stolen
hello friend how can i reset the ecu of a ram 1500 standard year 99??
How do I turn off the light airbag..??
A video on how 2 read schematics guy next!!??
There are dodge truck forums that have wiring diagrams and they can help you there.
What about the engine light on the rooster
Ron Washburn lol
Does this guarantee to pass emissions
if you have a problem with your sensors then it won't pass emissions.
If so, let me see it and I will tell you whats wrong with it.
would doing this help a shifting issue?
No, your shifting issue would most likely be the pressure solenoids.
litleElmo could be a map sensor or throttle position sensor
No, not the TPS. The only thing that has shifting issues is the pressure solenoid and the actual shifter itself which you have to press the brake pedal in order to shift the lever into gear.
Google throttle position sensor shifting problems and you will see that the tps can cause shifting issues
maybe on some cars but if your talking about 02-04 dodge rams. no. TPS on these rams just give engine hesitation and hard starts. Been there.
Very helpful!!
Happy it helped you.
Did u figure outt tHe problem with yours
Just below half at idle, just over half at high rpms on oil pressure
@@aaronabt4279 Thanks for the reply. I just replaced my oil pressure sensor. The old unit was leaking a small amount of oil. The oil pressure gauge still goes up to the high side and always stays in the same spot so I don't know if it is working correctly or not. If the gauge should be changing while at idle and higher RPM's then it is still not working.
thanks doesn´t work on my 2005 5.7 hemi and shows on display hr 4919 code ... some help me whats means this code ?
What does it mean if I turn the key over 3 times and nothing shows up
If it says "DONE" in the display then your all good. No problems.
this work on a 2006 dodge ram 4.7? thanks
Give it a try. If it doesn't work then let me know ok. Have you checked the codes yet?
I have the scan and it doesn't show anything wrong with the car! I would like to know if you could reset the tachometer for me because in the scan shows the right but in the tachometer shows the wrong. is it possible to reset the tachometer like in your video? thanks
Does it show codes on your tachometer when you do the ignition key scan? What codes show up if there are any when you use the key? What do you mean in the right and the wrong with the tachometer? We will figure it out, just give me more info and I will help the best I can OK.
I have code 81 and 64 and also b7/b8 is this normal 04 ram 2500 v8
what is the code in PO? Check the code on the speedo.
@@litleElmo those are the codes that come up on the dash
07 Wait to start indicator circuit shorted.
08 Wait to start indicator circuit open.
64 Driver door lock switch input circuit open.
81 Remote radio switch input circuit high.
These have to be fixed before erasing the code.
@@litleElmo it’s not 08-07 it’s b7/b8 and it’s for the dome lights not sure what’s going on or why the codes are there all my interior lights work
@@michaeljarosz8507 OK, so if your lights work then you had a small interrupt in the power somewhere. It could be a lose connector, ground somewhere, bare wire, mice eating wires, moisture. Look around at all your wiring that is out in the elements. Wires break over time and they also rub on the truck which eats away at the plastic covering on the wires.
Does this work on a 2008 Dodge Ram ?
What a 2016 ram
What Engine does it have
Thank you so much
Just disconnect the neg battery and it will clear the codes without doing all that you did
Does this work on a 2011 Ram 1500?
I never tried this on a 2011. I don't think it will but since you have your truck there and I don't maybe you can try it and see if it works. Try the 3 times with the key and if that don't work, try the 2 times with the key and if that don't work, try the 4 times with the key. Let me know if that helps ok.
I cant get my code because that doesnt light up anymore. Cant even see mileage. All other lights work.
When I tried to start it, it would start for a couple of seconds and then die.
Except my 2004 Ram 1500 hemi won't throw the codes only resets as showed
Hi guys! I have a problem. The process is not finished, then the pointers were right. Can I help me? please. thanks :) what I do?
Lo arreglaste?
Would it work on a 97 dodge ram?
yes it will work
As was mentioned on the video, disconnect battery, turn head lights, press the trip reset, turn ignition on and off five times. You have to make sure you replaced the faulty or broken item that is setting off codes first.
@@litleElmo I actually bought a new ECU for my dodge, but my dodge won't hold a charge still. I thought resetting may help since it is new
@@loganwork7024 You bought a new ECU? Where from? Have you had it flashed from the dealership or shop? If you have a new ECU and that's all the problem you have is only the dome light code then you are lucky. Without a flash from a dealership or shop the engine won't work properly. What other issues are you having? I'll try to help you the best I can. Doing all this over the internet and for free on my side. I like to help those in need and pint in the right direction.
@@litleElmo I appreciate that. Im not entirely sure what being flashed from the dealership means, but I've bought a new ECU, a new alternator, and a new battery. It will run for about 5 minutes and the gen light turns on and the battery starts dying. Im probably just going to take it to a shop, so I won't take any more of your time. Thank you for your help though!
