- This video explains how to read your diagnostic trouble codes on your 1994 thru 1997 Dodge Ram. It also explains the basics of reading them on a 1998 thru 2010 Dodge Ram.
Here is the link for the process instructions, and to look up the codes:

You should re'post this video with louder volume.
The information and explanations were great.
Thank you
I’m confused where do I read the numbers . Is it how many times the check engine light blinks
@Chris Potter Where did you get the code reader for the 1994 Dodge? What is the name of it( if you don't mind given that information) ? Someone I know is looking for one. TIA
Thanks a lot for the actual explanation of the blinking codes.
Hey I had a question, cant find find obd plug anywhere, bought the truck used, and I'm wondering if I can trace it from the source to the plug where does the wiring start for the plug?
The plug is in the harness that runs along the firewall, if its OBD1
@@crazykincardineite do you know the colors of the wires?
@@crazykincardineite I have the same question. I can't find my port for my 1994 dodge ram 1500 4x4.
@@matthewcromwell1969 open the hood. Look above the pcm on the firewall, you'll see the main harness running across with a rectangular black plug. 1" X 3/4" or so. That's the plug.
@@crazykincardineite thank you. I got codes 12, 33, 37, 27, 32, 55
The link is not working for me to read the codes.
I need help with what's wrong with a 94 Dodge stealth
19 flashes. Anyone can elaborate what it might be ? I can’t find much online
I did mine and got a 12 55. So this means I don’t have any codes other than that the better was disconnected within 50 starts?
so where did u get the 12 code and the 32 code
I would like to know how he got these numbers as well.
When I cycled the key, the light came on, and went out. It then flashed once and paused, then flashed twice and paused. That's 12. Then three times with a pause and twice with a pause, thats 32. Then five times with a pause and five times again with a pause. That's 55.
So I can't connect to the attached website ...can you maybe tell me what a 43 is it.actually sends it twice
So what does it mean if I don't even have my check engine light come on but it won't start it cranks but wont start
This is what mine is doing did u ever find out what it was
What is the light next to the brake light I nkow is seat belt brake light what’s the third thks i have same truck 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 and that light won’t turn on
Thank you! Great job on explaining and the link! Keep it up! Great help!
My mmm
My mmm
Do you know how to clear the check engine lights on this truck? Does it require a reader or is there a manual way? Thank you soooo much
Disconnect the battery for a while. Should reset it. But these things also don't store codes, so when the problem is gone they'll go away after a little bit.
@@crazykincardineite That doesn't work for the light that comes on for a 02 replacement. That used to be dealer only.
Hey, this is great info, dude! I found out about this by accident, switching the key on and off to test the 'wait to start' lights... Now I know what she's telling me :3
Way to keep that old Ram going, too! I've got 310k on mine; most people think it's obscene to daily a car with anything over 100k, pfffft! Keep on rockin'!
My 95 has 114k! I love that I just found this out!
@@arlinethomas3074 if you have a gasoline engine, it'll probably give you some useful info!
Mine's diesel, so thbbt! X3
Have a updated link with code reading? Your link attached doesn’t work

I need some help I got a 97 ram it just keeps on flashing don't know how to read the steps of the flashes
M2 bro :(
I have 96 Dodge Ram 1500 and the code I got is 3855, did I just read this right? Yes, I too would like to know where you got 12 and 32 from? Do you know what the code 3855 is on this make and model?
The 55 tells you that you're at the end. I don't believe there is a 38.
Hey Chris, I have a 1996 Ram, I turned the key on/off just like you showed in the video, had piece of paper and pen to write down the codes, but my check engine light never blinked. I started the truck ran it for a couple of minutes, turned it off and tried it again, same thing check engine wouldn't blink. I tried this multiple times, any suggestions. Thanks, Marty
When you just turn the key on, and all the lights go through their test, does the check engine light come on?
Yes the check engine light comes on and stays on, it won't turn off.
So what does that mean when it doesn’t blink but yet just stays on?
Tim O'Riordan has a dogd ram with a Cummings enginee gen2ram 1994
the first code number after switching key three times,is 12 the last code is 55 presuming the ecm is working,if not the check engine light will not illuminate, then its getting expensive,as of now there are no rebuilt ecm's for my truck at all,5 parts stores are searching, fact
My 94 dodge just came on yesterday and its flashing 5 times than pauses and repeats? Any help would be appreciated
5 and 5 just means the end of the codes.
Chris Potter what does that mean exactly for my engine light being on? It's still doing it but it comes on after running for 5 mins. When I shut it off it goes away for a other 5 mins
That 1 RC Guy that's means it's a soft code. If you shut it off, and check it right away, it should come up for you.
What if there’s more than one code?
I've tried this on my 98 Durango, no luck. Any tips??
izzy s 98 is a funny year. Most 98s won't do it. You can buy a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle on Amazon for around 25 dollars, that connects to your phone and allows you to do all sorts of diagnostics. They work quite well.
Awesome video! Thanks!
Thank you for posting this. I had no idea this was an option. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one still rocking an early 2nd gen Ram. I couldn't help but notice your high mileage. That is impressive! How many engine and transmission rebuilds have you had?
That is Kilometers, but I put about 420000 on it (about 260k miles) on the original engine and trans before I wrecked the truck. It was fully loaded with the tan interior, no cracks in the dash. Ran like the day it was new. I saved most of the engine parts and they're now in another truck.
@@crazykincardineite Ah, I assumed it was miles. I only have 78K miles on my 94. I'm sorry to hear your truck was wrecked that is a shame.
@@robtrenholm1950 78k not even broke in yet lol. I bought my 94 with 82k on it and thought that was great back in 06. I used it as my work truck and racked it up to 200k, got a head gasket leak, parked it. I took the time to restore it this spring with a bunch of upgrades. Made a quick slideshow and idle video on my channel. Nice to see some other 94s out there.
That's kilometers not miles
@@JO-fk1bg Bought mine in 2013 with 88k, now has 130k... Still going strong! I'm thinking of getting the parts to convert it to 4x4.
Thanks a ton I've been trying to check my wife's 95 dodge ram for years but no luck finding a code reader.
Same with .y 1994. Its a different port than the OBD 1 and 2. I haven't found anyone that can scan it.
Tried this on my 01 and it worked
Where you can see numbers??
You count the flashes of the check engine light.
So how do you read those codes
Shilo Hale there's a link in the description that tells you what they all are.
I just hit 370,000 thankyou :)
I still don’t get how to read the codes ?! I’m confused !
The check engine light flashes a sequence of numbers.
Link doesn't work for me
I got 41 on my v10 anyone know what it is??
Thanks a lot, didn’t know that you could do that
Solo d video but the site doesn’t open
My 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan works the same. Thanks.
What does the 56 mean is it bad
Shilo Hale According to all of the info I have, there is no 56.
What it mean when it does 12345pause123456pause whats that code
Shilo Hale that's a 56
This did not work on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2, idk why I thought it would but just got the code with bluetooth scanner
That's OBD2. This is OBD1.
Chris Potter true but why dodge delay that?
Because they are shit
Because they are shit man
where do u read trouble codes at
kimberly wright Did you watch the video? With sound?
Chris Potter yes I did and turned truck on n off like he did but could not see where codes r
kimberly wright The check engine light flashes in a sequence of numbers to give you the codes. If you can tell me the make, model, and year of your vehicle I can walk you through some diagnosis. You're welcome to send me a message and ask whatever you need. I'll help as I'm able.
Can anyone help! Mine showed 3 pause 3 pause 7 pause 5 pause 6 and then stayed on
It’s a 97 dodge ram
it means the transmission will go out soon. it is a dodge.
where did you see the code at
kimberly wright What do you mean?
She means where do you see the numbers that you're saying all I see is a flashing engine light I don't see the numbers that you're calling out anywhere and I'm sure she means the same thing
Código 41, a que refiere?
I don't understand, where are you seeing numbers
The flashes of the check engine light.
Very helpful.
i mean i did this but dont know where to read the code im stupid
kimberly wright It flashes the check engine light. There's a link in the description with all of the codes to look them up. it will flash the check engine light in a sequence of numbers.
Interesting. Thank you

Dam u got exactly 100 thousand more miles than my truck
Mine is at almost 300,000.00. I think I've finally blew a rod, but not sure until I check.

I reccomend you turn your volume up.
