I bought a brand new 1966 Mustang. The proportions on that model look good. Everything else can be fixed how you like it. Good Job! Additional comment - you have a great channel. I wish I had found it years ago. Dang, life gets in the way of fun sometimes.
Thanks for the informative video. Too much $ for what you get is right on the money! 😃 Funny they put the motor on its side? It raises the center of gravity a bit back there. I’ve never seen that before…
The only other cars I can think of with the motor on it's side were the Monogram vintage NASCARs... which was a model car company trying to make slot cars... but wow, the driver had nice legs and feet! LOL!
I saw the motor looked a little (round) but didn't realize the motor was sitting round side up, I wonder why they did that, it makes no sense other than some bean counter cost saving reasoning.
And nicer finish and overall detail level. I did not do a visual comparison with the Pioneer, but should have. Yet, smart hobbyist like you easily already know it.
I agree on the quality control. Three other things you missed are the exhaust tips are not at the same angle & spinning the front tires by hand the left wheel is not on square as it wobbles and third the rear bushing & or axles have a ton of play in them. I bought the white one also & both have all the same problems. QC is awful on these. Really disappointed.
An accurate interpretation of a 64 Notchback I think, be ok on Scaley track but not a racer on wood without throwing money at it. The Thunderslot gt350, were still waiting for delivery in the UK incedentally, will go like stink but looks hopelessly inacurate cos it's a racer. Be great to have the best of both in one car eh, cheers for the review.
Hi, nice what you done with this one. Your honest comments. I hope that they listen. Something different than all these guys on the web. Telling always how good their car is... Probably because they got one for free. If you do not want to spend too much money than your tuning tips should be done on ... All Scalextric. In the past they where cheap and now expensive and with a lot of bad mistakes. My latest purchase the Bastos Calvary has the biggest mistake ever. Wrong red.
Thanks Harry. Yes, this Mustang is ok but it's not great. I thought this had lights? The idea of this car is certainly great but it's not the build quality of a mould that makes us say 'wow' and then rush out and buy two more liveries. I suspect this is where the folks at Scalextric are overreaching themselves. They are very ambitious in the scope of their range right now and they seem to have a formula which places primacy on 'to scale' detail and oftentimes quirky innovation which, in and of itself, is great, but this is not the first of their post covid offerings which has had many quality issues and they are in jeopardy of losing a sometime strong reputation because of this. I was waiting for someone to do this video on this model and, for this, I am indebted to you to the tune of the best part of $64 US (which remains to my credit on my checking account) :) Scalextric, as a brand seems to me to have become something of a Curate's Egg - i.e. good in parts. The two Porsche 911 offerings they released last year were, in my opinion, much better than this.
Great video, I completely agree. I buy almost no Scalextric nowadays. You remember the 'Hong Kong Period' where they produced models of great cars but cheaply and nasty. I think they are going through a modern version of that. And just like you say it's the people at Hornby who lack the insight.
I totally agree with you on Scalectric pricing and quality issues. I've got many Scalextric Trans AM cars from the beginning the most recent was the Javelin to my dismay has a "inline " motor so it's not really a apples to apples competitor with their previous fastback Mustangs and Camaros. That loose motor mount is totally unacceptable. I also have about 8 Pioneer Trans AM cars (Camaro and Mustang) I'm curious how this Mustang compares? BTW, another great review 👍👍 I've never seen a slot car mounted like that a real head scratcher why wasn't it mounted flat side down? I'll be passing on this car, it's just not worth it $$, Slotit prices for that? Sorry no.
It ran in the Saloon car championship. British for sedan cars having a roof and rear passenger seating based on cars sold for road use. Sports cars having no roof or limited rear passenger seating were excluded from the sedan/saloon racing. Similar versions ran in the US Trans Am championship and Australian touring car championship. The Mustang was the car to beat in the Australian championship for many years. In all these series a convertible version would be excluded as a sports car and the Shelby GT350 had its rear seat removed to be classed as a sports and so compete in the US production sports car class.
By an amazing coincidence Jay Leno just put out a vid a few hours ago giving a brief history of Trans Am series : th-cam.com/video/yatlg44hzm4/w-d-xo.html Starting a year after the UK and Australian racing championships started running Mustangs,
@@johnd8892 I just watched it. Ah those were the days as Archie would say! Thank you. How can they tell if my 1/32 has a back seat! Those ARE drum brakes....this IS beginning to be " like actual (road) racing".* *I can still remember Jackie Stewart saying that about Aurora AFX HO racing!
Sacrifice performance for a back seat... suuuuurrreee... I had to cut part of the cage out on both my Javelin and Cuda... they just don't care anymore...
This is a hard pass from me. I understand they wanted to make this car a movie tie in and should have designed the mold in a way to allow the normal motor configuration. Placing the motor like that is just terrible. Hopefully someone is working on 3d printed chassis and cockpit as we speak.
Alan Mann a well known race driver in the UK. I had to have this to go with my collection. But I agree with all Harry says. I won't be buying as many scalextric now. Well unless they improve. Or refuse prices
VERY glad I just gave £45 for a Pioneer 68 Fast back Stang and not this POS! And why is the seat all on the 'wonk', off set drivers position, sure, but it's pointing the wrong way !!!
Thanks for the video. I have to be honest, that looks like a very cheap and poorly made model. I just don’t know how Scalextric can justify the quality of their cars.
Amen on the QC department.. Premium pricing deserve premium quality ..

Really runs very smooth and quite after a few adjustments. Nice work Sir!

@@harryberry474 To have a back seat in the convertible version.
Great video as always Harry. My issue is for the money I can go and buy a Pioneer notchback mustang and have a far better runner out of the box.
And nicer finish and overall detail level. I did not do a visual comparison with the Pioneer, but should have. Yet, smart hobbyist like you easily already know it.
Both Pioneer and Scalextric are way too much money for what you get...
Yes. All scalextric roll cages look terrible now. It two minds. Remove like you did or try building one. Great review. Keep them coming
Agreed Harry... to get the car to run well on any kind of track other than their own puts the price point north of $100! 🙀😿 Thanks 🤠✌️
I just won one of these Mustangs, once I get it I will give it the HRW tune up and enjoy it.
From your video the red on this car doesn`t even look like paint but just a red molded body??
Indeed. Molded in color with a small amount of clear. Could have looked much better.

Ya.... its tough 😪 😔 dam I sure hope scaley survives. Out of all the new models none caught my eye for the price. I usually buy 5 to 6 scaley cars.

Agree with you about the pricing and quality was going to buy but probably will not after watching your review
yeap sport mustang and Alan Mann Racing deserve the best (made in China)

Alright I like Mustangs! Would that be CAN AM or GT or production Sports Car. I need a rule interpretation before I own all Group C And Porches!
This was sports car. Alan Mann Racing, worth searching on it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1965_British_Saloon_Car_Championship
