13:11 i'm an ex-floridian and dan and arin are both right. the more north you go in florida the more southern it becomes, but it also becomes more southern the more south you go. it's the middle orlando area that keeps the miasma of southerness at bay. but it's not a forcefield, plenty of southerness seeps into the orlando area, it's just diluted.
I just made a similar comment on someone else's post except I didn't know the part about the very southern part of Florida being hillbilly too. Northern Florida is supposed quite "southern" based on what one former friend told me about it. Also, she had me chat with her then-fiance and other people from there over the phone. They acted and sound more stereotypically southern than me and I was born, raised, and lived in the south for most of my life. But, like Arin, I don't really fit in with other southerners in my region.

Also as a Floridian, this is very true. I guess cause there’s a lot more big cities kinda in the Tampa/orlando area and there’s a lot of tourists and foot traffic so the southern is being kept at bay. But in my area, they are very southern
As a Floridian from Miami, I can 100% confirm since the neighborhood i was born in was actually a railroad town and the looooooong busway that goes from Florida City all the way to downtown Miami used to be a railroad. The railroad was the line my ancestors weren't allowed to cross. Can't get anymore south than that because all the good stuff was on the other side of that busway. LOL
Yeah, the panhandle especially is as South as one can get. It starts getting diluted out around Gainesville for obvious reasons, but there are pockets of "southern" behavior/culture all over the state, especially the more rural you get. I'm in busy central Florida but there's still back roads where I pass by an old bar whose claim to fame is that it used to have segregated entrances.

I mean to be fair, it's hard to pay attention to a tutorial when you're focused on playing the game. This isn't them talking over the plot in a visual novel or something. But yeah those sound useful

So for the record: plot in the first game was in Japanese version, not as much as here obviously, series also got some lore in PS2 era games, Bill and Lance also already had voices in them, and Ray they are talking about in the end is protagonist from Contra Hard Corpse, Genesis game which is set 5 years after first
Please play this as a whole series with this nostalgic audio. It locked on to some serious dopamine in my brain.
I don't know the first thing about Contra. I've loved these bois for a decade now--hearing them get excited about a remake of a game from their childhood is all I need to be on board.
