Love it. Recently got into mountain biking and my second hand bike needs a few upgrades. Had no idea how to tell the difference between the two and I didn't want to take it all apart just to find out. Love the pro tip!
$60!? Just to unbolt the stem, unbolt the star nut bolt and slide the fork out and find out if the fork has tapered head tube or not? Obvious rip off. A kid could do that.
I have a Trek verve kinda like an old man cruiser and I was wanting to change the fork out and I noticed that it has a quill stem.i don't know why Trek would go that route. Anyway great info Mr Central thanks 👍
are all tapered forks 1.5 in to 1 1/8 in? I purchased a motobecane fantom DS 29 that I want to upgrade. it has a cheap straight fork, but clearly a tapered headtube. I'm finding 1.5 in as well as 39.8mm forks? please help a newb!
I like tec tips, thank you!!! Here is a topic to cover if I may suggest one. What may be the outcome of running a 2.1-2.4 wide tube with a 2.6 or larger tire? 1.75-1.95 width tube and running a 2.1 wide tire.etc. Tire tube size nearly matching the tire size and results? Over inflation or under inflation is better or worse in this situation?
Did you really need all those printed pictures? Espesh the screenshot of the poll with a black background argh! The poor ink! Why won't anyone think of the ink! :P
Kev Central. I'm try to find out some info on a bike other than the year. Since Iron Horse USA bicycles doesn't exist anymore. Can't find anything on it. It's an Iron Horse USA Mach V. Could be Mach 2 also? Idk? No internet info that I could find. Any ideas? Tu
@@KevCentral . Idk? The frame says on it Made in USA. It's a 26. I threw 27.5 wheels on it. Plenty of clearance on the back for a 2.4.. The stock Manitou fork on it the 27.5 just barely clears. I think it's going to be my next mullet. I put a 200mm eye to eye rear shock upgraded from the 160mm. Fyi. If you can find it? I saw a 29" Bolony dual air fork on Walmart dot ca cheap. What's your thoughts on the fork? Have you ever heard of any of Iron Horse's bikes from 07 coming with a stock sealed bearing Chris King headset?
To be fair it is not uncommon to see straight fork in a taper head tube frame. I've even saw a guy fitting tapered fork into straight steerer frame. It is also possible.
Great tips like always. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽

for some reason i cant wait to see the video on the huffy
I can think of 698 reasons why i can wait.
I never knew that you can check to see if it's taper or straight tube without disassembly thanks for the tip 😉 👍👍

👍🏼
It was probably a kid working behind the counter.
And watch all the bearings fly out! 😂
@@davegravitt210 Bearings should not be "flying out" if you're removing a fork. If bearing are flying out, then you didn't install them correctly.
Nice tip...looking forward to the Huffy Amara!

Wow this is actually pretty good info and actually helped me
I was hoping this was going to be the full suspension bike video but at least I’m first!!
Now what is the difference between Tapered vs NonTapered in terms of quality/performance?
Great easy tip, thank you Kevin.
What are the advantages of the tapered fork over the straight type?
Technically it increases strength at the crown, but also that many better forks sometimes only come in tapered
Love the videos so informative . Are all straight steer forks have the same size diameter on the steer tube
Thanks. I’m sure there is an oddball out there, but for all common bikes straight steerers are 1-1/8”
Thank you, outstanding info!
Not an e-bike fan but I still enjoy watching your reviews of them,Kev! Looking forward to the Amara video.
I am interested to find out if the carbon x29 have an inter sleeves within the frame for brake or shift cables...
Thank you SO much for this video! 🥰

That Huffy frame looks suspiciously like a Diamondback Atroz frame. Copied??
I have this bike what size of fork should I be looking for? I was try to order it before I took the bike apart
Really wanting that E bike review assuming its the one I am thinking it is! 😀👍

Is that carbon x 29 tapered or straight steerer?
Ok so how do you tell if your frame can accept a taper for or not ?
PLEASE DO THE HUFFY BIKE NEXT
Can you hotspot your phone data to your computer via Bluetooth or a USB wired connection?
Yes, but the amara video alone is larger than my monthly data allotment on mobile

Lol. I have HP Instant Ink! I can print a single dot or a full page: it’s the same
Huffy 27.5” Carom is on sale for 198 bones right now.
I feel kind of dumb for not thinking of looking from the bottom now to be honest 😅
Thanks for the tip

That’s tough. Pacific Cycle bought Iron Horse and I don’t think they kept much info on legacy bikes

Yep, but that’s putting the taper outside the headtube which somewhat defeats the purpose 🙃
You even don't have to look under the fork, just use measuring tool.
Explain please
The Huffy Amara is just a reverse engineering Raleigh Kodiak 1 with worse components at the same price point.
That huffy looks dangerous
How do?
