I remember Robin tried Indonesian food before in a Buzzfeed Taste Test video a couple years ago and his review (all reviews from other staffs too, such as Ashly and Chloe i think) were all good so it's nice to see him do another Indonesian food taste test. Indonesian food has many variety but it's not widely popular maybe because of lack of overseas promotion (South east Asian foods are usually represented by Thai and Vietnamese food), but they are actually good. And the foods here look awesome! If you've never tried ones before, you really should!
farah fitriani i'm in the netherlands and we have a big indonesian community here, in fact my grandma was born there (i'm like.... 1/8 indonesian?!). This food is a big part of our culture, most dutch families make nasi at home and you can get all those things anywhere! I just haven't seen the fish before and i was missing some other great things (nasi ramas? Koening? Tempe? Lumpia?). But this is by far my fave food ever, especially Rendang! I really enjoyed this video!
chantiemaya the fish is just straight up grilled seasoned fish, with sambal kecap (bird's eye chillies+shallots+garlic+kecap manis) as condiment I think. Nasi rames is seasoned rice with assorted toppings from meat to veggies Nasi kuning (aka koening) is seasoned turmeric rice and usually topped with scrambled eggs and other Lumpia is fried spring rolls with different fillings depending on the place you go to but what makes it the same is the dipping sauce, usually use tauco based sauce (fermented soybeans) you must try soto or rawon if you're a fan of beef soup (there's chicken soto tho)

I know why some Indonesians often called "overproud" (by some other Indonesians) whenever our country, Indonesia, is being praised by the foods, culture, nature, and anything related to us. The reason is mainly because of our special famous character, that's "Being Friendly" and sometimes "Too Friendly". We care quite a bunch to other ppl, more than other country's citizens mostly do.. We care more, we do more, and we watch more to other ppl,y'know. Bcuz of that, we are also gonna be so friggin happy when the other party do the same to us, like praising us for what we are, what we make, what we have.. We feel like we are also being approached by someone who care about us. It's about that feeling. We are the type of human who gets happy to meet new people, even make friends w/ strangers, having a good time together, not just spending a cup of coffee alone in the corner of a cafe. We greet/ smiles to other ppl on the street, we'll try to help others when they need help, eventho we have no ability to help, then... Somehow we'll help to find other ppl who can help you.. 😅That's why whenever the tourist here being asked about Indonesia, they never missed the "friendly people" part.. 😅 Being friendly is a good thing.. We can be proud of it, we aren't hurting no one here, we are doing a good deed. We try to connect w/ ppl, and there's nothing wrong with it. And sometimes being overproud is not a big deal for me, cuz it's everybody's right as well. But, it's wrong to violate other's right by being too friendly, for example when we mind other people's business, y'know, we get ourselves into other's problem when we aren't supposed to~ So keep going being a proud Indonesian! And watch out a lil bit for the situation around you :)

My moms side of the family is from jakarta🇮🇩 but my dad is singaporean🇸🇬so i'm currently staying in singapore with my family and my mom bc she takes PR(Permanent Recidency) bc she wants to move back to indonesia at her country. But indonesian food is the best and its so delicious. So lucky my mom is indonesian bc i get to eat all the food she cooks that i've never tried before bc ever since i was born,i didn't go to her country (jakarta) once.
