How Good Is the New Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE Off-Road?

  • For 2023, Suzuki did an overhaul of their flagship adventurer, giving it a significant off-road upgrade in the form of a 21" front wheel, increased suspension travel and ground clearance, a more-rigid swingarm and subframe, larger serrated footpegs, beefier sump protection, a new dedicated Gravel ride mode, off-road ABS, and more.
    Are the latest round of changes to the Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE a major upgrade in off-road performance? We recently got our hands on a V-Strom 1050DE and put it through its paces over several days of rigorous off-road testing. In this video, we evaluate its performance in sand, technical single track, whoops, hill climbs, and more. Plus we ring it out on some proper twisty roads and clock some hours on the super slab to see if its street prowess was retained after the updates.
    More details on the updates to the 2023 Suzuke V-Strom 1050DE can be found here:

    I just purchased a leftover ‘23 DE. Great great underrated motorcycle! Suzuki has outstanding deals going on right now. Absolutely love this v-twin! Cruise Control, 6 axis ECU, up and down QS that’s a joy to use! The TFT dash is outstanding, this bike is a complete joy on the street, plenty of passing power, all day riding comfort too! I’m 6’4” tall and this motorcycle fits me to a T. Great job Suzuki!! This DE doesn’t feel top heavy at all, unlike the AT that I tested. Home run Suzuki!!

    Looks like fun. Can't believe you didn't do any suspension setup for you! A couple clicks and a turn or two here and there can make a massive difference! Setting sag and compression + rebound on my 800de made 1000% difference.

    Nice. I have a 2003 1000 V-Strom that I geared down one tooth on the front sprocket and it made a huge difference at low speeds off road and anywhere else you need torque. No discernible penalty on the highway.

    800de it is better for offroad. The 800de has 220mm of suspension travel (only 1cm less than the DesertX) instead of 170cm in the 1050de. 800de has a larger ground clearance (220 where 1050 has 190). Its weigh less and are still suitable for long trips. Only the lack of cruise control...

    • @danielscott2357
      @danielscott2357 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Yep..its almost perfect! Id buy one tomorrow if it had cruise!! No cruise is a deal breaker on a bike like the 800de.

    • @Mansplainer411
      @Mansplainer411 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I test road both last weekend. The 800 is much more nimble and easier the handle at a stop or offroad. The 1050 is better in every other way. Much more comfortable, faster, wind protection.

    • @QuinnBoone
      @QuinnBoone 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Owning an 800de I've come to realize after riding 2 up and with luggage a 1050 is a better choice for sure for long distance touring.
      The 800de can and will do it fully loaded, but you can tell it way more that the 1050.
      I have limited experience off road other than some logging trails but it, the 800de, will do wayyy more off road than I probably will ever be able to do with it.....

    • @robdabney
      @robdabney 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      A lot of folks who mainly ride off-road prefer the tube in front because a small dent in the rim will not lead to a flat if you have a tube. But it would make sense to ship the bike with tubeless and people who want a tube could always put one in.
