      One year ago I got this set, and it ushered in a new era I have added 6 more chief locos and would add more, but no locos to buy, burplies in supply chain expect it for the next 6 months .unless of course something else happens.

      @@saiah_yt795 Correct. The Milwaukee Special, 1973, The Broadway Limited, 1974, The Capitol Limited, 1975, The Southern Crescent, 1977, all used the original MPC Baby Madison tooling. In 1978, the tooling was altered to accept die-cast six wheel trucks. All Baby Madison cars produced since, whether they have four or six wheel trucks use the modified 1973 tooling... including the Polar Express sets.

      That type is a 4-4-2. It was an upgrade from the 4-4-0 American and competed with the 4-6-0 Tenwheeler.

  • @modelrailpreservation
    @modelrailpreservation 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In a way, a 4-4-2 Atlantic makes sense. While the iconic 4-6-2 Pacific class locos that regularly hauled The Blue Comet were all scrapped, the CNJ had a backup loco for The Blue Comet, a 4-4-2 camelback type that is now in the B&O Railroad Museum. The Blue Comet was advertised as the first train east of the Mississippi River to be equipped with roller bearings, so the fact the coaches have them is a nice touch. I love The Blue Comet, and as enough cars still exist, as does the reserve loco, I dream of some day aquiring enough coaches, and the loco, to return The Blue Comet to service as a special excursion train.

  • @brendanstrains9725

    Awesome train. The Blue comet is my favorite train. I have a MTH Railking blue comet. I am excited for the legacy blue comet camelback that is coming out in a few months. I wish a real life blue comet locomotive was preserved.

  • @JonBrooks105
    @JonBrooks105 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    That's not a "Sleeping Car" but rather a "Combo" car, half baggage/half coach. The Blue Comet had no sleepers, as it only traveled from Jersey City to Atlantic City, New Jersey. It did have a dining car. Maybe Lionel will make that as an add-on at a future date. The car tooling dates to 1973's Milwaukee Limited.

    At 2:22 you made a small mistake, the first coach is almost never a sleeper, so this would be the combined lounge-baggage car, the large sleeping compartment you talked about was actually used to carry luggage, and mail. The SP Daylights had these cars instead of a single baggage car. Just felt like correcting and possibly teaching you all something new.

    The locomotive and tender seem to use the same tooling as the late 1960s Lionel #242. I have a #242 myself as well as it's newer variations from the 80s and 90s. They all share alot of the same visual aspects and running characteristics. They run super well and if something breaks it's usually 2-3 screws and you're in. Nothing bad about it.

    You... realize the smoke unit is standard on all Lionels right? How would you mess it up? That's like saying "I'm not going to put this on the track."

    • @ItsTrainBoy
      @ItsTrainBoy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Running it without liquid in it..? 🤣 That burns it out so I tend to keep it off lol

    • @thomasemard8862
      @thomasemard8862 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItsTrainBoy The.... set comes with smoke fluid? I guess I'm just not getting the concept of "I'm not going to be the one who tests this out". It's your locomotive. If you're not planning on selling it, it will never be anyone else's locomotive. So it's only ever going to be you who decides to use the fluid. Lionel's been making smoke units for 70 years. Your locomotive will be fine. I've been collecting for 30 years, never had a smoke issue. Just don't use the old 1970's smoke 'pills', and your locomotive will do just fine.
      Personally the smoke and sound are the reason I have Lionel instead of HO or OO. Your standard Lionel comes with features that are only available in HO scale on top-tier locomotives. You probably paid less for that entire set that you would pay for a single HO locomotive with smoke, sound and DCC control. Might as well use the smoke, it's a feature on the locomotive. Though I recommend upgrading to third-party smoke fluids, the Lionel brand stuff is pretty weak.

    • @ItsTrainBoy
      @ItsTrainBoy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Thomas Emard I think you’re mistaken, I’m not scared of putting liquid into it I just don’t care to do it because like you say it’s a feature that can cause issues and that I don’t really care for. I see what you mean but it’s never been a feature that I really care too much about. I don’t really do O anymore either so I don’t know the most about them, it was kinda a one off thing. :)
