Being an old Jerseyman and a Jersey Central fan I wanted a Blue Comet set for years, but the "right" one never came along. Last year I finally got the MTH Railking Blue Comet locomotive and coaches. Love it! Now I can die content! (But not right away!) "Next stop, Jerrrrrrzey City!"
What a beautiful set! Mike Wolf said that the original Lionel 400E Blue Comet was his favorite locomotive, hence the MTH logo, and then he decided to make that beautiful scale Premier version that you have. It’s a work of art that locomotive and tender, as well as the entire set.
The original Lionel 400E Blue Comet set retailed in 1939 for $75. Just to give you an idea of how much money that was in 1939 $75 would have also gotten you a Winchester 30-30 deer rifle, a Colt .38 revolver, and you would have had $5 change coming to you!

Back in the 1990's there was The Hoboken Festival where New Jersey Transit Bus & Rail displayed old & new Rail cars and Buses even new equipment The ALP 44 just came out. Vendors from The New York City Transit Museum were out there selling HO SCALE & subway memerobilia yes their was a converted CONRAIL boxcar that had an operating layout of HO scale ! 😱 But every season this event was given I had forgotten until this video has been presented The real BLUE COMET COACHES was their I had the pleasure of going inside them the Business Coach car and the standard Coach. It was C.N.J. long before N.J.T.. Yes I have O SCALE cars but my HO collections is enormous, I'm building on N SCALE as well. There is a diner in Clinton NJ off I-78 about 30 to 40 away from PA called the Clinton Station Diner, they have one of the original Blue Comet cars attached to the diner, The food is so so, I never got a chance to sit in the dining car, but I keep stopping there when I get a chance just to try and see if I can get a seat in the comet car just once.
Thank you! I was using that oil and there was this tube and it didn’t fit correctly and was spilling all the oil out the top and not through he tube. I looked in the bag and sure enough I saw a top like yours and I was like “oh, that’s the right one.” It was smaller so I didn’t see it I initially. It stopped the squeak on my two post war Lionel culvert cars I got with the loader and unloader. I love your layout too, such a cool design. I’m gonna keep watching your videos
Simply beautiful. I have two Blue Comets. One is the Lionel MPC locomotive with a full consist of cars. I really love this set and you actually inspired me to buy this when I saw you feature it in one of your videos. The other is also a Lionel set, It is a Lionchief Blue Comet starter set, and I am less than thrilled with this one. I love your videos, and always look forward to new ones when you release them.

When I was a kid, my mom took me to Train World and let me pick the set I wanted for my birthday. Like you, the Blue Comet (1970s Lionel) was the clear choice. ❤
Great vid, I myself have the pre legacy version. The color is always striking. I have the Southern Crescent blue comet and the Chicago Alton, those Atlantics are just great lookers on the track.
Ok Chris, You did it now! I’m gonna have to get a Blue Comet set. I first saw that set from a guy who has his Grandfather original on You Tube. It a beauty as is yours. Just found your channel, great stuff. The blue comet has a special place in my heart as well. I collect G scale primarily and one of my first sets was a blue comet. I just recently started collecting Lionel. Your layout inspires me to go for it with O scale!
The premier one looks so good! Its really nice going at speed,i have the railking one but im going to upgrade to the legacy version to go with the rest of my CNJ fleet and great video!
That is a beautiful train Chris. I missed the Blue Comet in MTH Premier or Lionel scale and its on my list of items to snag one day. Its majestic and commands attention. I do have the MPC Blue Comet set which I love but hopefully one day I can acquire the scale version. Here's a thought for you...sometime maybe you can do a video where you consider and analyze the difference between Proto Sounds and Lionel Legacy Sounds.
@@RBPTrains Yeah. HO Blue Comet models are few and far between. IHC and Rivarossi made versions but those are expensive and hard to find. The BLI ones sell for $300+ on eBay.
I am from NJ and heard about this engine from the Sopranos and the train store that has it is call me loco (train pun btw) but TrainWorld is an actual store in New York, in fact they got a TH-cam channel of their own, go check it out.

Bobby was going to buy a pre-war Lionel tinplate Blue Comet in O Gauge. The set shown in that episode was a reproduction, no mint-condition originals were available to be used. Poor guy never got to run it!
Strange, my 'Westphal' has 4 stairs instead of 3 like on yours, and chrome grab bars. Theres a 'break' halfway / middle of the cars windows (18 windows in total) with a plain cream colored separator between the windows on the left and right side of it and the roof has 5 air inlets, 2 to each side with a just off center 5th one. I see no passengers inside nor hear anything when I shake the car. Mine has the metal/magnet disconnect latch on both sides to disconnect cars and they are black like the rest of the wheel section(s) are.Underneath the car Its clearly marked 'MTH Electric Trains' too. The car measures a total of 17". I only have the one car, I bought it off ePay several years ago. I wonder why the differences ?
My favorite train of all time is the blue comet right now I only have the locomotive with Lionel tmcc I hope I can find some passenger cars for her soon
If you live in an area where the Greenberg train shows happen that particular artist's work is for sale at those shows. I believe Lerro Productions is the seller. The prints are VERY reasonable!
You can try the O Gauge Forums to see if anyone is selling. Other than that, train shows are your best bet. Finding cheap O Gauge is an adventure! Good luck and thanks for watching!

Such a beautiful set 🥰. I got a 2-8-0 set that unfortunately had a drawbar issue. It got rebuilt and now is running awesome.

Though I tend to shy away from steamers with big drivers (hard to emulate speed without the very largest of layouts), this model looks amazing.

I got the Blue Comet in MTH Premier 2-rail DCC non-sound, MTH Rail King Rugged Rails, and Broadway Limited HO Paragon 3.
