    I must look for Rituals. Left is where the beauty is. Thanks for sharing. Sandal Tunnel is unique. Taking the bus is always the way Togo in Grenada. A very informative video.

      Thank you Emily. Exactly, left is where the beauty is! That’s the rule in my head everytime I go that route.😃 By the way, Rituals is just after Ace Hardware store if you are leaving Bishop Maurice Highway to GrandAnse. The Sign ain’t so obvious; just know that it shares a fence with Ace.😊

      There is a plethora of local experiences. I’d suggest visiting the Sulphur springs where you are masked from head to toe in the sulphur from the spring and then washed off, complimented with a local foot massage.
      Fish Friday is at a part called Gouyave to eat.
      Bonfire night at Savvy’s beach bar by Mount Cinnamon every Friday.
      Join a Hash club and hash through the bushes.
      Street Food Wednesdays at Dodgy Dock with a live band led by Jeverson Ramirez.
      Like I said, the list goes on.

    9:00 During the period of the Revolution (1979 - 1983), Fort George was renamed Fort Rupert in honor of the father of Maurice Bishop, the leader of the Revolution. Rupert Bishop (Maurice Bishop's father) was a trade unionist who was assassinated on the Carenage during a labor protest/march. The assassin who mysteriously fled the country soon after, never to return or be found, is alleged to have acted under the consent or direction of the then prime minister Eric Gairy who was notorious for using violence VIA his infamous "Mongoose Gang" to intimidate and silence his critics. This is the leader who was ousted in the coup that started the Revolution. In 1983 infighting resulted in a bloody coup that resulted in the collapse of the Revolution with one faction executing Maurice Bishop and several close colleagues by firing squad at Fort Rupert just hours after a standoff between the two factions resulted in a fire-fight that resulted in the deaths of scores of Bishop's supporters who freed him from house arrest and brought him up to Fort Rupert (which had a significant cache of guns and ammunition). The fort is also kind of like the Leaper's Hill of St. Georges, because during that fire-fight some persons had to leap from the high walls to avoid the bullets. After the Revolution the Fort's name reverted to Fort George.

      What a history! Thanks Caribbean Man. You never disappoint with these. I hope they teach these in school. Can you please enlighten me why they call Sir Eric Gairy, the “Father of Grenada independence “?

    • @caribbeanman3379
      @caribbeanman3379 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bubusboulevardtv They call him that because he was the leader that approached the British government requesting Grenada's full independence - and they granted it.
      But that in itself caused unrest on the island. It is not that Grenadians didn't want independence. Gairy's reputation for corruption and violent suppression of dissent caused many to fear that he would do even worse if the country gained independence while he was leader as he would then be a full-fledged prime minister with full power to do as he pleased without any accountability or oversight to a higher authority - which up until independence, was the British government.
      The weeks leading up to Independence including the day of independence itself, were marred by crippling strikes and protests that essentially shut down the country. People had to get food from their backyard garden or their neighbors' backyard garden and there was no electricity - Grenada's new flag was first hoisted by firelight on Fort George at midnight on February 7th 1974.
      Grenadians are proud to be independent now. But back then it was a mostly unwelcomed and opposed step due to fears about Gairy gaining even more power.
      Gairy was quite an intriguing character. Early on he was a trade unionist himself and led strikes that resulted in what could be called a social revolution in Grenada. Up until his actions most poor Grenadians were heavily exploited, working for slave wages on the plantations of the wealthy. Gairy would organize massive, island-wide strikes that often resembled riots with public buildings being set on fire. He would give his speech and he would say something like "sky red!" or "red sky!" and that was like a dog whistle for his supporters to light some buildings on fire on the day of protest. His actions forced the govt to make a massive hike on the minimum wage. One time his protests even resulted in a British navy ship being sent here to quell things.
      He was a somewhat charismatic speaker too. Also a charismatic dresser with his iconic, dapper white suit. There are also lots of paranormal stories about him dabbling in sorcery and being able to walk on water - which I take with a lump of salt. lol. One time at the U.N. he actually gave a speech where he brought up the subject of UFOs, asking the international community to look into it. lol. He was a judge at the Miss Universe competition when Grenada won. Someone should write a very interesting and fascinating book about him.
